Dixie Animal Hospital

I do not like this clinic for several reasons from over the years, but a more recent situation has occurred to reassure the reasons of why I do not like this clinic. A family member of mine just got a puppy and took her to this clinic to get her vaccinations and to be tested for anything(she was previously living on a farm). She wanted to have the Vet test her for PARVO but the Vet did not want to and just did an exam and found that she had worms. (A lot, since she was living OUTSIDE on a farm). Well...She was given instructions and such for the worms and was told to just wait and see if she would get rid of the worms on her own. About 3 days later, my daughter and I were babysitting her and noticed that she had rapid breathing in her sleep and sometimes when she was awake. The next day we babysat her again and she was very lethargic, sleeping all day and still had the rapid breathing. That night when the family member came and took her back to her house, she threw up everywhere and had diarrhea. She then took her to a different Vet the next day and they tested her for PARVO. Guess what?! SHE WAS POSITIVE FOR PARVO!!!! Now we have to bleach a lot of stuff and clean the poop from our backyard(hopefully our dog didn't come in contact with it). The family member of mine has to bleach every floor in her house and has to give my dog and her dog a booster shot. Thank you Dixie Animal Hospital(and the vet who didn't want to test for PARVO) for reassuring my thoughts about you. Very much appreciated and I would not recommend this place for ANYONE! more

DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!\r \r I never used this vet personally but I re-homed a pet that it's previous owner used this vet. Why? I have no idea because they are the most rude and unprofessional establishment I have worked with in years.\r \r All I wanted was to have my new pet's records faxed to the vet we use in our home state which is not in Kentucky and after not only 2 phone calls from the cat's previous owner, but also 2 phone calls from me, and another 2 from my vet I still do not have my pet's records! When our vet called them the first time they told them that they had absolutely no record of the animal...of the animal that has been going there for over 3 years...okay. When I called, Jenna, said they have the records and that she would fax them to my vet right away...she didn't. When our vet called them again the lady who they think was named Jessica was completely rude and told them they didn't have the records, that they already released the records to the owner, that they were getting no information from them whatsoever about the animal. Which obviously I do not have the records nor does the previous owner or I wouldn't be writing this review right now.\r \r I don't understand what is so hard about faxing a patients records to a new vet when I called them the first time and they reassured me that the new vet could request the records and it would be no problem. All I want is for my new pet to get the proper care it needs at it's new vet and Dixie Animal Hospital is making that impossible. more

Over the course of my life I have been to many different vets from Shively to St. Matthews and none compare to Dixie. more

I have been VERY pleased with the facility and all of their staff. I have only had good experiences any time it has been necessary to take my ShihTzu for treatment or just maintenance shots. Mugzey and I have been going to them since he was 5 weeks old (and he is now 10 years old!!). I am extremely particular when it involves good customer service and good service in general. If the service isn't good where I spend my money then I never return. The staff have always been very pleasant to me and have always treated my little Mugzey with great care and love. I highly recommend this facility and trust them completely with my Mugzey. The groomer is awesome too. Even a "satisfactory" groomer is difficult to find so a great one is such a blessing. more

I could not disagree with the previous poster more who commented on the staff, price and services offered not being as good as another clinic. I have been a client for almost 20 years now with several different pets. One pet who was critically ill. Not only were the staff warm and friendly, anything they ever said never contradicted the information the doctor had previously gave. They do the grooming and boarding for 2 of my 3 dogs (the third has never been boarded) and over the years have had to put 4 of our beloved pets to sleep. I am sorry but you come across as a commercial for the other office and not someone with a legitimate review. All I know is if I ever move my dogs will come back to Dixie Animal if I am within a 100 mile radius. more

I love Dixie Animal Hospital! I have been going to them for at least 14 years. Even though I now live 40 minutes away, I STILL bring my pets to only them. I like them because their prices are very reasonable, they are honest and best of all....you don't ever need an appointment. The wait is never too long to be seen by a vet. When I moved across town, I looked for a new vet....but just couldn't find any that would suit me as well as Dixie Animal. I highly recommend them!!!! 11/17/10 more

dixie animal hospital i believe are top notch. everyone there are so nice and understanding and will do anything to help u. my family have been goin there for over 10 yrs and they have always been the best. wouldnt go anywhere else. more

I agree with Holly-how could you be so completely heartless and complain because they closed due to the unexpected death of a doctor. Saying that they should have let people know, well life doesn't always work like that. They were only closed 1 day, which says a lot about their compassion for their patients. And if you can't understand that then you definitely should take your business elsewhere. I'm so sad to hear about the passing of Dr. Roark and pray for her co-workers and family for their loss. On a lighter note-Dixie ANimal Hospital is a wonderful place to take your pets, I will never go anywhere else! The staff is very caring and dedicated! more

We had scheduled to take our 2 dogs there while we went on vacation, only to find out when we got there they were closed!! Not very good business. Now I find out one of the veternarians past away. I came to this clinic after becoming disenfranchised with Shively Animal Clinic, (who I found to be rude letting me sit in the lobby for six hours several times even though I was a walk-back and others came in after me. Their front staff was EXTREMELY rude acting like you were just another in the line who they really didn't have time for). I have 13 dogs and this clinic is a lifesaver. They are open 7 days a week, and on weeknights until 8pm. Many times I come home from work to find someone is sick or hurt and can run right up there. Most clinics are closed by that time or you have to wait for hours to be seen. The prices are very reasonable and the vets and staff are typically very pleasant. I have 2 cockers and have taken them there since I got them. My youngest had cherry eye and had to have surgery by Dr. Roark . Price was very reasonable for the surgery. Although the first surgery did not hold she redid the surgery for no charge and her eye has been perfect ever since. I've had no problems with this hosp other than the wait is a little long sometimes. It seems to me like the front office could use a little more organization. They seem to be what makes the wait so long. Sometimes I just want to pick up some flea meds or heartworm meds and it takes forever just to pick those up even if they dont have to see your dog. That is my only complaint. The cost of all their services are very reasonable. more

I have been taking my pets to Dixie for a couple of years now and I always have had to come at night because I work during the day, Every time I come in I'm greeted by warm friendly faces who are very knowledgeable and go out of their way to meet my needs. In my opinion the management is doing a great job with the staff that I have had the pleasure of dealing with. They also have very compassionate veterinarians who treat each of my pets like they were their own. Not to mention the prices are awesome!!!! more

I have been a client for about 6 years, I have always been impressed by the doctors, and the affordability of the services offered is truly worth mentioning. However, if your looking for warm welcoming front office staff, keep looking, seems like they only have a couple of knowledgeable, caring front office personel, the others definitely lack people skills and share alot of uneduated information with clients. Being a former receptionist for a large and small animal clinic, I guess I have come to expect a much higher level of service. If your willing to wait a few hours and are looking for an almost pediatric office type enviroment for your pets it's worth the time and the drive down Dixie to Shively Animal Hospital, staff is exceptional, friendly, knowledgable and definitely worth the wait and they are actually a little bit less expensive than Dixie and offer alot of medical procedures not offered elsewhere. I have 2 large breed dogs and Dr. Bobb and Dr, Medley are terrific with them. We have gone thru some pretty bad health problems with Festus over the past couple years and the docs and staff were so sympathetic and so helpful in keeping him on schedule during his recovery and making sure he was placed on the right diet. We won't take them anywhere else for regular check ups and visits mostly because they are so good with our furry kids, and their staff is terrific. They are crowded every time I take the dogs in for a visit. A crowded waiting room doesn't bother me because they are quick and efficient and I never wait too long and its a good sign to see a packed house. It just proves they are doing something very right! more

I have had my animals out to Dixie for a number of years, both for medical and grooming. Most of the staff on the medical side know me when I enter the building, my chart is always pulled, I am greeted with a smiling face (most of the time) they make me feel special. That is also how it had been on the grooming side for the past 9 months. That receptionist ALWAYS had a smile on her face, always ask how things had been going for me and my babies. She was such a joy to deal with. That poor gal, I remember her working when she couldn't even talk last year. But she was still pleasant, and wore that beautiful smile. I came in last week for a grooming appt., my friend behind the desk was no longer there. Broke my heart. The lady who was working was not at all pleasant, she was there to work, very dry, strickly business, no smile. I certainly appreciated the extra effort the other lady had with us while on the grooming side. I always made many purchases over there and she was always so very h more
