Editorial review from Citysearch 12/10/2013

Do not buy a gift card from Dino. I purchased a $200 gift card via the website I was directed to. I had to pay $5.60 for priority shipping. I waited over a week and no gift card. I called Dino and Harry and talked to Dino himself. He said he would ""research"" it. Another week goes by and no call or gift card. I again call back and he said that it had been delivered. I told him it was not delivered to my house. He again said he would ""research"" it. Another week goes by, no call or gift card. Called again and he said he couldn't do anything about it. I told him I would dispute my MasterCard charge and he said he would tell them it was delivered. I asked him to cancel the card and reissue another one. I live in Texas and there was zero percent chance of someone using the gift card. It was a gift for son that lives in hoboken. I decided to check with my post office and they had he gift card. Dino had put the wrong address on it. When it was returned to our post office they called Dino and he told them he would ""research"" it. They never heard from him. The man wants your money and doesn't care if you receive your gift card. \r \r Has anyone else had this problem? more

Salty Steak 10/8/2011

I agree, the atmosphere here is great but my Rib Eye was super salty. It was cooked well but the food was super salty. Not sure if it was a one time thing. When I told the server that my steak tasty a bit on salty side, she kinda ignored me. more

Good Times 5/22/2010

The family went out for my boyfriends birthday and went rather well. Bartender was very nice to us, food was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Lots of traffic getting into town. Never really liked Hoboken while driving to the town. Will take a different approach when returning. Pros: Friendly, Good food Cons: parking more

Very Disappointing 5/10/2010

Five of us went here for Mothers day dinner. The staff was very nice and the appetizers were pretty good but the steaks were just okay. My brother ordered his steak medium rare and it came out med well. My mother ordered her steak medium and it came out medium rare. She was able to eat hers but my brother couldn't. He was mortified because he never sent anything back before but it truely was overcooked. We asked a busboy to get the waiter and he took one look at the steak and admitted that it was overcooked. He sent it back without a problem, little did we know that it would take a half and hour for the new steak to arrive. By this time the restaurant was empty so it shouldn't have taken this long. Plus the waiter never communicated thie situation to the busboys who (since the rest of us were finished) continually tried to take the side dishes and my brothers silverware away. We ordered desserts when the steak finally came so my brother wouldn't have to eat alone. Not what you expect when spending $500.00 on a meal. Plus the steaks weren't that good. Oh and you may be assuming that my brother's steak was comped but it wasn't. Now you're thinking maybe the desserts... Nope! They gave him a glass of wine. Really? Pros: Really don't know Cons: Mediocre food & poor service more

Sure bet! 4/6/2010

Stopped in for drinks and dinner on a recent Saturday night. Happy to find parking available around the corner on 15th Street, short stroll to the restaurant. The place was packed, found a space at the bar and the bartender, Frank couldn't have been more warm and welcoming. Made a great Jamesons and Ginger ale, added a lemon which was a genius touch. Our table was ready in a flash and we sat near the piano, which adds so much to the ambiance.Had the best porterhouse for two and creamed spinach with lyonaise potatoes. Heavenly! Looking forward to going back, soon. Pros: Perfect steaks, great bartenders, fabulous evening. Cons: None come to mind. more

Good food, comfy atmosphere 3/26/2010

I went for an early dinner service at around 6 PM and had the scallops and potatoes. It was tasty with an asian kick to it...The waitress was friendly, but the time waiting for the order to arrive was over 30 minutes...shouldnt take THAT long to cook scallops in a sparsely filled restaurant..also there is simply no beverage list other than a wine list, which is SO weird to me...Are people to ASSUME what the restaurant has to offer? Little did I know they dont make frozen drinks! I think that this place being a landmark makes it get the rep that it does because it's not all that Pros: food; wait service Cons: wait time for order to arrive;no beverage list more

What a Wedding! 3/7/2010

We had our wedding & reception for 50+ people at Dino & Harry's and it was perfect. And that is not a word we use lightly! Every guest is exclaiming about the ""superb food"", the ""superior service and serve staff"" and the ""charming ambience"". Tony & I want to thank Dino and his staff for making it such a memorable occasion. P.S. I have many requests for recipes, especially Chef G's sausage and pasta dish. Pros: food, service and ambience Cons: no valet parking- only validated parking more

Good food, wine, and atmosphere 2/27/2010

My boyfriend and I ate here for our Valentines dinner this year and had mixed feelings about the way the evening went. The food, atmosphere, and wine were all above par. The service was not horrible, however when you are spending $200+ on a dinner you expect to have someone pour your wine for you and your food to come out in a perfect sequence throughout the meal. As an appetizer we had the beef carpacio and oysters...both very good. I ordered the filet mignon as my main meal and my boyfriend had the porterhouse- both delicious (although I would highly recommend the porterhouse over the filet). The only drawback to the evening was when the steaks took 45 minutes after our appetizers to reach our table. The sides were delicous as we had scallopped potatoes, asparagus, and a baked potato.\r \r Overall, it was definitely worth going once for the experience, however for the price I feel we should have received better service.\r \r I hope this helps! \r \r Pros: great ambiance and great food Cons: slow service more

I think the..best..food..in..Hoboken.. 2/4/2010

If I could afford to eat there every night I would. The best food in Hoboken, bar-none! Pros: The best steak in town. Cons: (it could be a little cheaper..) more

Best florentine/tuscan steak in NJ or NY 1/2/2010

My wife and are are big steak fans, and we've been to every mid to high end steak restaurant in the NYC area searching for the best Porterhouse. This is definitely our favorite - the high temperature ovens char the outside to perfection and it's served sliced in a platter of butter. The sides are all excellent, especially their lyonnaise potatoes, and we always get great service. We eat here 3-4 times per year and we nearly always have the same server. She gives us great service and usually comps us after dinner drinks or dessert. I was worried when they changed names, but the owner assured me it was a name change only - everything else has stayed the same. As for cooking temperature, they are right on, or even a little light, so if you order medium rare you may get ""rare plus"". Pros: Charred buttery steaks, excellent sides (esp lyonnaise) Cons: None really... slightly pricey? Not closer to my house? more

Charred steaks 12/8/2009

We had planned on a special evening dinner having some nice steaks. What we received was charred steaks - when we talked to the manager and waiter both said that's the way they are cooked. It tasted burned and very dry. Dessert was good. Pasta with marina sauce and italian sausage dish was good. Ravioli appetizer was also good. Come for the bar and a so-so meal not for the steak. Pros: Good pasta+italian sausage dish; Cons: Manager did not care; service poor; terrible steaks more

Great Steak 3/27/2009

This restaurant, formerly Frankie and Johnnies's Steakhouse is a phenomenal Steakhouse. I have personally known Dino for years and he has maintained a fabulous establishment. My husband and I love going there for a special occasion or to satisfy a fillet craving. Excellent wait staff and bar tenders. Highly recommended. more

Finally, great food in Hoboken! 3/25/2009

I don't know about you, but I have been disappointed time and time again in Hoboken. Perhaps I'm a little spoiled when it comes to food. In any case this is the ONLY place to go for an excellent dinner or brunch (Sundays) in Hoboken where you will leave knowing that you had a great meal and hope the next time will be sooner than later. The desserts are awesome too, especially the Snoboken! I get the feeling that the Chef here is limitless, not to say a genius! more

Superb! 2/18/2009

Wehad drinks at the bar, very welcoming, service was great, they go out of their way to make your experience enjoyable. Menu has quite a variety. Our group was more than pleased with entrees. Generous portions and delixious. We had sampled a large part of the menu, no one was disappointed! Crabmeat risotto, ribeye steak sliced and roasted chicken were all fabulous. The shrimp cocktail is by far the best you will find anywhere. Don't miss out on their soups, Honestly, a great restaurant, loved the atmosphere. You will really have a good time there. And you won't feel that you wasted your money. more

Congenial service 9/14/2008

Wonderful waitress......helpful and knowledgable. Attentiveness suffered as restaurant got busier. Waitress apologized for desert wait by saying the kitchen was way behind. Tile floor, so the place is very noisy. After a while, we were shouting at each other at our table. Food was ok but unremarkable. Hoboken salad was chopped iceberg with wonderful anchovy vinagrette dressing, au gratin potatoes were a B+, garlic spinach just ok. Steaks were sizable but a bit more rarer than the medium rare that was ordered. Tasty though. Parking lot turned out to be a two block walk with ticket validation. Probably won't go back. Pros: Professional waitress, attractive place Cons: noise and parking more

Just OK 4/13/2008

I can't say I was overly impressed. High prices, the food is good but nothing spectacular. I guess you can chalk it up to being in Hoboken. I don't plan on going back. more

Geat Steaks and Atmosphere 1/14/2008

My wife and I have eaten here dozens and dozens of times. We originally started when NYC banned smoking in restaurants, and were were looking for a NYC style steakhouse in NJ. \r \r This is it, great steaks, an historic location, and a bar that is simply stunning. \r \r It sounds to me like the last reviewer simply had a bad night. Service is usually very good, some of the waiters have been there for years and years. The owner is very attentive, but the place does get crowded - that is the price of being popular and good at what you do.\r \r Valet parking makes the trip to Hoboken really easy and the entire experience is well worth the trip. more

Very average food, below average service 12/5/2007

We went there last night for a dinner for two. Were promlty seated in a far coner (seemed intimate) but it came with the price - getting a waiter was quite a chore. I guess it was so far away from the main dining room that even wiaters forget about it. I was asked threee tiems about a drink and when i finally ordered one, I had to remind our waitress to bring it 20minutes later. Getting water was no teasy as well. Or perhaps they have a ""one refill policy""..\r \r The appetizer was pretty good, so was the steak. But the seebass was comptely tastelss - no salt or other spices, no sauce... It was quite a disappontement. Dessert was decent.\r \r Also, I am not sure how singing ""We are the champions"" with a bunch of drunken customers constotutes life jazz music. Or adds to a romantic atmosphere...\r \r BTW, valet parking turns out to be a validated parking in a garage across the street. Stil better than nothing considering Hoboken but their site does not mention it.\r \r To conclude, just an average place, one can do much better with a short drive. Pros: Good steak Cons: Everything else more

Valet parking, you'd never find parking on your own), nice hostess, decent waiter.Excellent steak. Quality meat and cooked to perfection...the Sirloin is the highlight of the menu which otherwise is pretty standard. The bill was $120 incl tip, but for a Tues. nite out well worth it.Sides are large enough to share.. Pros: Quality Beef, Portions, Cozy Window Seating Cons: Parking more
