low & behold instead of whisking off to Astoria a wiley troupe of real flower power children have come way way uptown to ding dong..they assure us the witch is far from dead & cooking up events like\r JANIS JOPLIN RORSCHACH TEST\r which is by that PAGE SIX fave dramatist LARRY MYERS\r who is 6 degrees from walt Whitman via tennesee Williams & Kerouac....and...... more

Great dive bar 5/2/2010

The Ding Dong Lounge is a great bar. \r \r It is suprisingly cleaner than one might expect for a grungy punk bar. \r \r The music is great, the bartenders are quick, and the dim, candle-lit atmosphere will keep you around for ""maybe just one more..."" Pros: Dive bar Cons: Dive bar more

Not like it used to be. 7/7/2009

Every six months or so I return to Ding Dong thinking it'll be as good as it used to be, but it just gets worse. Their selection of beers is short and disappointing and they get grumpy if asked to fix something other than a well drink. Last visit, we had to repeatedly coax the chainsmoking bartender inside to pour us drinks before we finally decided to go somewhere else (a patron at the bar was just helping himself). The time before that the barkeep spent about fifteen minutes screwing around with an ipod or something because the music wasn't playing. Bring a flare gun if you want a drink. I also will never forget their lame attempt to make our large group pay $50 or something ridiculous one New Years Eve to enter their completely empty bar at 2:00 am -- the meaty bouncer wasn't letting anyone in. It seems like it just serves a few loyal old regulars who are used to the crappy service or are maybe friends of the barbacks. Pros: punk rock ambience Cons: awful bartending more

what ever happened 2 4/5/2007

I loved this bar and whenever I'm in town I make it a point to stop in,although its changed since the last time I've been inseems more like a collage hangout, still good.\r But can someone please tell me whatever happened to the good old dirty punk rock and the kickass bartenders?\r chet chrissy where did you go!!! Pros: most of the time good music Cons: young students more

Great Bar, insane bouncer will break your nose 4/1/2007

Oh so tragic. One of the greatest bars in Manhattan yet their bouncer broke some dude's nose last night. He bledd all over me and my friends. Then the guy tried to pick a fight with US! Who would think that a bar of this stature would employ such a meathead? So, so sad. Pros: Everything but the bouncer Cons: The bouncer more

the last cool bar in manhattan 2/20/2006

this is the perfect bar. great music, great atmosphere and great bartenders. everything is perfectly balanced. go on a weeknight for a chilled out vibe. it has a great neighborhood vibe while still being completely welcoming to newcomers. weekends are busier with a good mix of locals, the cooler columbia students, and the occasional foreigner from the nearby youth hostel. no pretensions here. no bridge&tunnel dufuses. no trendy hipster phonies. no williamsburg posturing. just the good stuff (and awesome prices). Pros: great music, great atmosphere, great drinks Cons: not a lot else nearby more

THE BAR OF BARS 9/27/2005

it's the best bar. the bartenders are the best they are totally chill and very talented Pros: pool table, $3 draft beers, hot girls more

Rock-n-roll on the upper west side. And hot bartenders to match. So go if you like the punk boys or just go for the djs spinning the tunes. A+ Pros: decor, music, drinks more

Ding Dong! (it's for you) 1/15/2003

i've been coming here since it opened. there's a small bunch of regulars, but not the annoying or intimidating kind. the music and drinks are top notch and if you feel like it, hoola-hoops. cheers. Pros: cool music, cool people, relaxed atmosphere Cons: sometimes a bit dark more

almost punk 10/6/2002

A nice addition to the neighborhood. Love the flyers on the wall. Now just play a little more of the old punk stuff and it would be a 10! Pros: nice place, good theme, not too crowded more
