Outstanding Dumplings 3/30/2012

I first tried this place in Taipei. The Bellevue restaurant did not disappoint with the same great flavors and variety. It does get crowded at lunch time and weekends so if you don't want to wait you should get there by 11:45 am. The staff was friendly towards my 2 year old making a mess and they brought out water cups with straw and lid, high chair, etc.. The prices are a bit on the high side but I could understand as they location is at a premium. more

Great Dumplings and Noodles 1/4/2012

First tried them in Taiwan and although the prices aren't the same the bows and dumplings (pork) are just as good. It was crowded at lunch time so be prepared to wait or arrive early. more

Good food but no reservation and pricy 8/14/2011

Love the dumplings and other food. I think it's good quality but over priced. Had Din Tai Fung in Taipei and food was a bit better but not as high. If you have a big group the don't take reservations and it's hard to get in on weekends or lunch time without waiting 2 hrs. I would come back here but not worth the 2 hr wait, hence the 4 stars. more

Good dumplings, but 2-hour wait? 12/16/2010

We went the week after it's opening. The line was long! Dumplings were really good, but really pricey. close to a dollar a dumpling?! Plus a 2 hours wait. Sure go and try it, but would recommend wait till the hype quiets down, and the wait is short. PS. I was told you can order/eat at the bar if you want to skip the line. PSS. Had a chance to visit a branch in Hong Kong a few weeks later. The quality (and price) of the food are pretty consistent. more

Overpriced 12/15/2010

I think the brand and hype has pumped this place way more than it really worth. You can get the dishes and dumplings from regular chinese restaurants, without paying an arm and a leg. Try it for once, it's still a good experience, and well known chain. Just don't think that this is THE standard for chinese dumplings. more

Grand Opening @Din Tai Fung 11/14/2010

I thought they have been opened for weeks but turned out today is just their 2nd day. First impression - I was impressed by the modern interior design and super-friendly hostess. We were there at 12:30pm on a Sunday and it was busy! It was a 1.5 hrs wait but thank goodness that BelSq is right next door and they would call you when your table is ready. Here are what we ordered: Crab meat Xiao Lung Bao - Tasty, juicy, dough has the right texture & thickness, but I still think the best xiao lung bao is at Joe's Shanghai in NY. Nothing beats that. Beef Noodle Soup (Spicy) - I was disappointed by the portion as its much smaller than I thought. The noodles are great & chewy. The tenderness of the beef brisket & tendon is inconsistent, unfortunately. The noodle soup is very mild, I mean its really not spicy at all. Hot&Sour Soup - Again, not spicy at all. I guess I thought they would give it a kick to the soup but it's very mild. The only good thing is the soup has loads of ingredients in it. Pork Chop Fried Rice - Save your $3 to get the pork chop only as a snack with no rice. All in all, it was a great experience since I was so looking forward to its grand opening. Its worth the wait to come check it out. I will certainly come back, most likely will try out some other dishes next time and stick to my crab meat xiao lung bao. more
