Nice desserts 5/8/2010

I've been to Dilettante on Broadway a couple of times on weeknight evenings. It's cozy, well lit and usually packed. The booths are much more comfortable than the tables but they sometimes don't let 2 people sit in them. Pros: Good cakes, drinks Cons: Parking more

Chocolate martinis 4/14/2010

oh the chocolate martinis are so yummy! They use fresh oranges and are just a perfect girl's happy hour. The drinks are $5 and just as good as the $10 normal version (i hate it when bars make a not as good happy hour version of their drinks) I have never bought any food and rarely get the cakes but for drinks I HIGHLY reccomend it! Pros: happy hour! Cons: can be busy more

Wonderful Restaurant. Everyone should go. 3/24/2010

The new Broadway location is so nice! It is a great small cozy atmosphere, and the food is to die for! This is a definite must try. There are very few places around like this, and this will be a one of a kind experience, from the great dinner food, to the full bar, the chocolate martini's and the amazing Desserts! (Not everything is chocolate, I recommend the Fruit Crisp) I highly recommend this restaurant, and if you haven't been before, you are missing out on a unique experience. They also have a Happy Hour from 5-7 every day with $5 martinis! Can't beat that. Pros: Amazing food, full bar, and Chocolate Everything! more

Delicious Martinis 1/28/2010

I went with about 5 or 6 girlfriends here for some martinis. I am pretty sure we tried everyone on their menu. They were so good! The only problem is when a martini is that good you just want to drink shot style, so they do go fast making it a bit hard for the bartenders to keep up! We did something that I thought was fun - we all ordered a different one, and then passed it around the table. That way we got to try everyone, and figure out which ones we personally like best. We didn't order any food, so I can't comment on that, but will definitely be back sometime. The seating area for the bar is quite small, so it was a little difficult to fit all us girls at a table. We made it work though. Definitely a fun place to go for a girls night out! Pros: Variety of Chocolate Martinis Cons: Room for seating more

Good place to spend time but bad customer service 7/31/2009

I've been to Dilettante several times and have always enjoyed their store on Capitol Hill as a great place to go after dinner. However, I tried to order a cake from them yesterday and found them completely difficult to work with. Pros: Good baked goods Cons: Poor customer service more

Awful food, bad service 5/15/2008

Three friends and I went here one night during the big Broadway Blackout this past December, since we all wanted coffee and it was the only cafe with power. The boys ordered their drinks, then my friend and I each ordered a mocha. It was bland, somewhat grainy, and burnt at best. Mere hours later I was sick. It must have been the mocha, since that was all I'd had all evening. My other mocha-drinking friend was equally ill. I can understand a one-time fluke, but this wasn't the first time I'd been severely disappointed with the quality at this place (Borscht with a scalding-hot outer edge and an ice-cold center, clearly pre-made then microwaved.) I haven't been back since. more

Mediocre confections for a premium, not going back. 12/3/2007

We just returned from this place and were mournful we chose to go there. The german chocolate cake was dry (crazy isn't it, how do you manage that?!), the mocha mousse number my husband had was as he described ""mocha flavored whipped fat"" because it was so oily it coated your mouth with a fatty film, and the tall young man on staff at the counter wearing a beret was walking around the shop talking on his cell phone, loudly! To top it all of we paid $7 each for our slices of mediocre confections and $3 for 1 glass of milk. Corporatized crappy recipes, overpriced, and unprofessional staff. You are better of going to Costco for the goods, at least you'll get a quantity of mediocre confections. Cons: bad desserts, overpriced, unproffesional staff more

Never cared for this one... 10/9/2006

I've been to the Dilletante in Westlake Mall and have liked it a bit more than the Broadway location. The service at Broadway always struck me as a little snotty. It's also kind of dingy and dark in here- I never found the atmosphere very charming. Believe me, I've given this place many a chance and was never impressed. Cons: Snotty Service, Jumbled and strange seating arrangement and atmosphere more

The dark choclate truffles are the very Very best 9/29/2006

I have searched far and wide, and I can't find a better dark chocolate truffle. It's a stop that I must make when traveling to Seattle. more

Relaxing, fun atmosphere 9/10/2006

3 of us were there on a Saturday night. The place was packed but we got a table rather quickly - in 10 minutes or so. We had the tiramisu, black forest cake, 2 cups of hot chocolate and a glass of merlot. The tiramisu was my favorite - it was moist. The black forest cake was a little dry. The drinks were good. The cakes came in huge slices - they were pricey (almost $7 a slice). We spent almost $40 in all. I would go back once in a while...to share some desert and to enjoy the atmosphere. Pros: Fun and casual atmosphere, bustling Cons: Pricey more

Not so bad! 9/3/2006

I've only been twice, but both times found that the service was okay. We were able to get a table right away; even on a Saturday night. The coffee was wonderful, and the German chocolate cake, even better. It's a great place for couples and friends to hang out, and end a perfect evening. more

If you're not in a hurry 6/20/2004

Dilettante Chocolates has some spectacular food - delicious Borscht and an amazing variety of desserts and chocolates (of course). If you're in a hurry, though, you'll want to go elsewhere. We spent 2 hours there tonight with a group of 10, and the place wasn't really that busy. Luckily, none of us minded, and we didn't have anywhere to be. I'm sure that if you let your server know you wanted to be in and out in a jiffy, they'd hurry up, but most people go there after they've been to a movie or a show, or just at the end of the day to relax, so there's no reason to hurry. Their shakes are thick and creamy, and all the desserts our friends got looked great. Get some chocolates to go on the way out. Pros: late night, middle of cap hill Cons: , slow service more

Chocolate coupe 5/27/2004

Terrific chocolate sundaes -- tip a half coupe is more than enough for one person! Sure sometimes it takes awhile for your order to be taken but I've always found the servers to be helpful and friendly. more

Will not be back 3/2/2004

The waiters are jerks. The waiting time is excessivly long, the place is overpriced. These people think they are doing you a favor taking your money. I was there with guests from Europe and they thought the waiters behaved like Russian waiters before communism collapsed. We had entertainment making fun of the overblown egos of the staff trying to outdo each other in snobery. The only good thing was the cake. But I'd not be back. Cons: , Jerks as Staff, Sloooooowwwwww more

love their sundae! 1/27/2003

a great place for coffee and desserts with just [a few] friends on capitol hill in late evening. despite an average 30-min wait for a table of 3 or 4, we kept our mouth shut as soon as we have our sundaes. =) more

Mediocre food, terrible waiters 9/4/2002

Went last night with friends. They added gratuity for a party of 5, then taxed it as a billable item. I asked for the remainder of my $6.25 piece of cake to be boxed. When I got home I found it in the box--upside down. Take a trip to Portland and go to Papa Hayden's; it's cheaper and the desserts and service are first-class. Dilettante's doesn't nearly earn the snobbery its servers seem to think it's worth. Cons: noisy, terrible waiters, chocolate not so hot more

Be still my heart! 8/22/2002

I've been going to Dilettante for a few years now, and always had crappy service. It's something I've come to expect. But a week ago, I went in there with a friend to order our usual--he, a Rigo Jansci and I, a port shake--and 'lo and behold, I found myself staring into two very beautiful dark brown eyes. They happened to be attached to our server, a young, artsy-looking woman with dark curly hair. Not only was she gorgeous, but a great server to boot! Smiled a lot, quick, sweet, and funny...the best service I've had there, by far. Thank you, pretty lady...whoever you are! Pros: Beautiful waitress, Great food, Beautiful waitress Cons: None, None, None more
