The food was very bland, no real unique taste. The place is very nice, service was Ok, but we felt as if we were eating a dietary meal. The waitress gave us two 20 dollar off of 5...

Great experience!! 4/25/2007

I had lunch at Devon with some of my coworkers and I was very impressed! I had a pasta dish that was very tasty. Great biscuits, desert was fantastic and our waiter was very nice. My husband and I decided to try dinner there on New Year's Eve. We were very impressed. We both ordered filets and we both couldn't believe how delicious it was. I would HIGHLY recommend trying it. It was very tender and very flavorful. Although a little pricey, it is definitely worth trying. Our waitress did have an attitude and was pretty unpleasent though- which was a disappointment. She gave us about 1 minute to review the menu and then brought our entree out to us immediately after she cleared our salad plates, so we felt rushed and ignored. For $250.00, I expect great service. She made it seem like we were bothering her. Additionally, seating had a strange setup- we were literally sitting right next to the table next to us so we could hear one another having conversation. Despite the disappointment with our waitress, overall this is a really great place to dine. Pros: Great menu, excellent food Cons: Seating, pricey, wait staff isn't very welcoming more

Best biscuits! 2/12/2007

I would go just for the biscuits - they are excellent as is the location. The service was attentive though maybe not what you'd expect for the prices. Let's just leave it at ""room for improvement"". I had the crab cakes which were good (I think Bobby Chez's are better); server was great with wine suggestions. My husband didn't like the Mako Shark but since he doesn't normally eat shark it was probably not due to preparation; just his preferences? Pros: The Biscuits!!! Cons: Service could be improved to match the prices... more

Great food, love this place 2/11/2007

Food and drinks are great. If you can't decide what to order, just close your eyes and pick one. seriously everything is good. Services can be good and bad. first time I went, it was great. The second time it wasn't so good. Make sure you make reservation. It can get very crowded. Pros: Food more

Excellent Food-Nasty Service 11/15/2006

In 2006, I have dined at this restaurant 4 times. The food is fabulous which is the only reason why I still dine there. The service is downright RUDE!! Apparently, I am not the type of client that they would like others to see. My first experience entitled me to a wall table between the 2 large front windows when I requested a window seat facing the square. On my 2nd visit, I was told that they cannot hold a table reservation for my elderly Mother of 93 for several minutes as her company parked the car, even though the restaurant was empty. And last, but not least, on my last visit when I requested a booth in the back area at 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon, I was told that I could only be seated at a table because ""the dining area will be filling up very quickly, within the next 10 minutes"". At first, I thought the waiter was joking, but realized otherwise, when I was led to a table next to the wine sink. An hour went by and we finished dining and the restaurant DID NOT fill up as expected. I'm a resident on Rittenhouse Square and cannot believe the grief that people have to put up with because they are not of a certain age backet (30-40). So beware for some RUDE behavior if you ""DON'T HAVE THE LOOK!!"". Pros: Excellent Meal and value Cons: Rude and hostile behavior more

Amazing Everything 10/26/2006

From the moment my boyfriend and I sit down we are treated wonderfully by the staff. From the corn bread to the lobster bisque everything is amazing. My boyfriend and I visit Devon's atleast 2-3 a year. If you need hgelp choosing wine ask your server for a sampling of different ones and they are so helpful when it comes to choosing the perfect meal. Pros: Service, atmosphere more

User review by smsteffy 4/14/2006

The food was good, wide range of fish although I was disappointed when I didn't find some more upscale fishes such as escolar... Halibut, sole, salmon appeared a little generic for a seafood specialty restaurant. I had the best bread and crab cake of my life. The ambience was good, king of trendy but I wouldn't go for a quiet date, the place is packed and noisy, the service was excellent. I would go back if I lived in Philly. Pros: Good food, Excellent service Cons: Noisy, Prices ? more

This is a great place for a small (or maybe large group)! I took my mom there for her birthday and it was perfect. The food was great and the service was wonderful! I suggest the scallops as well as the clam chowder and lobster bisque thought I'm sure everything on the menu is great. Perfect for any special occasion more

I love this place! 10/25/2005

The seafood is always very fresh with a great selection of oysters. The service is prompt and friendly. Do yourself a favor and get a table outside. The restaurant overlooks Rittenhouse Square and it's gorgeous. more

What's the rush? 4/2/2005

Went there for a birhtday dinner with an 8:30p.m. reservation on a Saturday night. The ambiance was nice. We sat down, the waitress told us the specials and took our drink order. Three minutes later she came back and asked if we were ready to order. So began the rush. Half way through appetizers our dinner arrived, on the verge of being undercooked! You would think a seafood restaurant should know to thoroughly cook a lobster. ""Nice"" restaurants shouldn't rush their patrons, especially on Saturday night. more

terrific dining experience 3/17/2005

The concierge recommended Devon Seafood Grill, and we weren't sure what to expect. It's an attractive space with plenty of seating. Our server Carmela was an absolute pro, but also super friendly and a lot of fun. She was right there with everything we needed, and all of her suggestions from the menu were right on. The food was fabulous - my husband the mussel connaisseur declared them the best ever. Overall a terrific experience and worth every penny. We will go back again and again. more

Well-prepared seafood standards 3/13/2005

Though no bargain affair, Devon makes for a solid dining experience by offering well-prepared seafood classics. Grilled/broiled/seared standards are offered with basic vegetable sides, along with some more unusual choices (including a very good Cioppino seafood stew.) Start off with chilled oysters, great fried calamari, or a heaping bowl of mussels in white wine and garlic. Service is efficient and friendly. The wine list offers a nice selection, particularly of good California wines, decent bottles in the $30-40 range. Pros: wine selection, good food, spacious more

Loved It! 11/15/2004

The service was quick and efficient, the bread was served the second we were seated. The food was unbelievably good. I would highly recommend Devon, everything was impecable down the dessert. I will definitly be going back, great find in Philadelphia. more

A great night out 8/29/2004

We went without a reservation and got seated outside (where we wanted) within 5 min. The service was great...we were able to dine. The view of the park was relaxing. The food was terrific! We opted for the special...3 courses for $30. The choices were great and the food was delicious. The salad was wonderful! We will be back. more

Good time 3/2/2003

The food was great and the service was attentive and pleasant. more

best seafood 1/21/2003

Like Saloon, Devon does not aspire to great cuisine, but perfectly prepared staples. Its seafood is delicious, fried calamari were original and the best I have had. Service was very good. Happy hours are a madhouse at the bar, so be warned, but this does not affect the sit down area. Pros: seafood, not too expensive Cons: crowded happy hours more

Something RIGHT on the square.... 12/8/2002

I enjoyed my meal with family at Devon. It was a bit pricey but worth it. The food was really good. But it was the service I was most impressed with that night. My server...Kate...was excellent very detail oriented. I was quite impressed and would happly bring my (very picky) family back into town to visit Devon again. Pros: service, tastey food, on the square Cons: a bit pricey more

okay 10/14/2002

Devon had decent food & yummy biscuits, a completely clueless staff (they couldn't even recommend a wine) and was nice and spacious. Was a decent place but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. more
