Great place to go if you're drunk and don't see the sticky bar and the disgusting toilet. The Guiness tasted as though it had seen better days and they didn't have any Murphy's.

Great Specials! 11/23/2010

Desmonds is a very nice place to hang. They have awesome lunch specials and just recently added drink specials to their menu. The staff is very friendly and they always make you feel welcomed. more

Quirky Bartender that's great on the eyes! 11/23/2010

This place has really changed since the first time I went there a couple of years ago. The place has been pretty much upgraded, not quite fancy but much better. The food is acceptable and the employees are friendly. The one thing that stood out was the hot bartender! And who would have known that he was a wise bartender! He knows his history for sure.... My friends and I went there the other day and they finally have drink specials. Including Cosmos! (3pm to 6pm) Anyway, if you're going to have a girls night out, start at this place! Or even if you want to enjoy a drink by yourself! And tip him well because soaking up that face, arms, and the booty just made my wine even sweeter! more

Worst Bar in the City 3/13/2010

What more can you say about this place other than it is frequented by racists and anti-semites. If you're looking to find the most unsavory parts of society than find your way to this bar. Pros: None Cons: Dirty and Racist patrons more

Cabasite 10/20/2009

Serious frogger bar. Treat yourself to a solid stale crisp or else why not try the big buck shoot em up game. If you're lucky you might come across Alex in there - the quickest draw in the west!!! Don't get fooled into playing with him though - he'll hustle you for every penny you own!!! Pros: mmmbutler Cons: smell of helmo more

Desmond's aand Brian are #1 6/23/2008

Desmond's was the highlight of a great New York trip. The beer was cold and Brian ( the Irish bartender ) was beyond funny. If you want to drink and have your brain tested by a quick witted bartender go to Desmond's. To those who don't like a sticky floor or want to inspect bathrooms ask yourself what are you doing in a bar to begin with. Pros: Brian Cons: none more

Great old fashioned Pub 3/13/2008

This isn't the type of place you bring a date. Meaning the floors are occasionally sticky and the place doesn't always smell like sunflowers. But it's a great old fashioned Irish Pub. The Bartenders are classic. They're such characters and they're very friendly. The atmosphere is layed back and the prices are decent. You can expect sports on the TV's but dont expect fancy plasmas or LCD's. The food is decent, typical pub food (burgers, fries, some pretty good wings, etc.) It's a great place to hang out, have a drink and chat. more

THE Worst! Avoid at all cost. (Should really get NO stars...) 8/10/2007

I went to hear a friend play here recently. The bartender served my girlfriend a mixed drink that was simply undrinkable. I told the watiress it really was horrible and we politely requested a different drink. Anywhere else that wouldn't have been a problem. Here it was. The waitress came back with the drink and said the bartender wouldn't take it back and if we had a problem with that we should talk to him. My girlfried went and talked to the bartender who, according to her, promptly insulted her and refused to take the drink back. NICE! We were forced to pay for the drink - that never got drunk - along with other drinks we had. Other than that, this place is a dirty, smelly dive with crappy food. If that's your cup of tea, by all means go and waste your time and money. more

Great Bear Selection, Friendly Staff, Good Live Music 5/2/2007

Great NYC Pub. The staff is what makes this place great. When you go, ask for Brian (the proud Irishman). He's got a great knowledge of his homeland that he is more than happy to share. He's also got a great sense of humor. It's a great place to mingle with locals and people visiting from all over the world. Pros: Beer selection, Staff, Live Music Cons: Food more

Just go somewhere else. 12/7/2006

Great place to go if you're drunk and don't see the sticky bar and the disgusting toilet. The Guiness tasted as though it had seen better days and they didn't have any Murphy's. more

Poor Customer Service and No Food (dispite the appetizer menu) 11/19/2006

Came highly recommended by our concierge. However, we were very disappointed. We just wanted a lite bite to eat and some beers. We got the beers but we had to get them from the bartender ourselves even though the cocktail waitress passed us a dozen times. Once the music began, we left after waiting 45 minutes for our mozzarella sticks that never came. Pros: The beer was cold Cons: Everything else more

Seedy watering hole 11/3/2006

If you are in the mood to drink with little atmosphere and the standard, but slightly more worn, feel of an NYC Irish Pub, this is the place. There's always a bit of a smell, but once you get over that, you're guaranteed to be joined at the bar by some other folks drinking away their troubles. Food's not really worth the effort - stay focused on Mr. Jameson. Pros: Cheap drinks and lots of them Cons: Run down more

My favorite bar 1/8/2006

Desmonds is my version of Cheers. The bartenders are lovely people, there are regulars that you know will be there every day to talk, and of course there are the guests of The Clarion hotel that wander in for a pint away from home. It is the heart that makes Desmonds my favorite bar, if you are looking for a lemondrop and cushy seats you are out of luck...but if you want a homey atmosphere this is the place. Pros: bartenders, regulars, music more

Love this bar 2/9/2005

Great after work bar which also has live music a few nights a week. NOT TRENDY like it's reviewed as, but it's a good old fashioned irish pub with great staff. Pros: great staff, comfortable envir., reasonable more

Two Different Bars 12/27/2004

Desmonds is really two different bars. During the day and on most weekday evenings its a no-nonsense regular bar where you can have a drink and chat with regulars and the bartenders. On the weekend evenings it transforms itself into a band oriented college style bar. The drinks are reasonably priced, the staff is great, and the food is surprisingly good. Pros: Great bartenders, Inexpensive more

Great fun 8/11/2004

My friends and I fell into Desmond's at the end of my hen party (bachelorette party). What a perfect way to end a crazy, drunken evening! The staff were very friendly, as were the rest of the customers... although maybe that's because I was handcuffed to an inflatable doll! Pros: good value, great atmosphere, friendly staff more

a nice surprise 7/19/2004

I too thought this was a dive bar....man, was I surprised! Lot's of young people, bands playing cover and original music....overall a great time & good atmosphere. This is not a place to go if you're in to renting limos to impress...that's what SoHo is for. This is unpretentious & just a plain old good NYC bar. more

Young at Heart 2/19/2003

My roommate and I stumbled into Desmond's for the first time last weekend at 3 in the morning and were more than pleasantly surprised. A live band had just finished playing and the place was packed with lots of attractive women. Upon further investigation these women turned out to be students at the art institute around the corner. HOT YOUNG GIRLS and cheap BEER!!! Have I died and gone to heaven??? Pros: HOOOOOOOOOOOT, Inexpensive, Young more

Little gem 1/24/2003

Visited from England in 2001 and 2003. It's bars like Desmonds that make NYC so welcoming. Fantastic friendly crowd & staff (Tony you're a star!) and good cheap beer!! We'll be back - Thanks guys. Andy & Pauline Nottingham, England Pros: Friendly staff, Friendly crowd, Great jukebox more

Best Dive Bar in NYC 7/25/2002

My first real NYC bar experience was at Desmond's, and this place has stayed close to my heart ever since. Awesome music, fun crowd, and charismatic staff never seem to dissappoint. Hard to find seats in the back during big shows though, so get there early. Pros: Music, Good Singles Scene, Friendly staff Cons: Cover charge, Many old men at bar, Bar food not fresh more
