Desert Industries

I love DI !!!! The only thing is you have to go often to find what you're looking for. I redecorated our entire apartment with DI finds... $ 3 for curtains, $2 for picture frames, $5 for lamps. The thing is, you have to have a vision of what things could look like. I spray paint the lamps that I get there and then buy new lamp shades for them at BigLots. Sometimes you can get nice lamp shades there. I've also gotten really cute black pencil skits for work. You just have to dig through stuff, be patient (go often), and have a vision of how you can make a lot of the old stuff look new again. more

The Provo DI is a great place to find treasures, if you know when to look. Avoid this place around Halloween when local college and high school students are on the hunt for kooky vintage costumes. Try to visit right after college students have finished finals and are headed home. What some people think is disposable can be invaluable to someone else. In college I had a roommate donate a new vacuum because we already had too much stuff in the downstairs closet. more

Come on, if Napoleon shops here it must be cool. For dirt cheap you can find all the latest styles from the 70s, 80s, and more! It actually is pretty cool, you can often find decent quality stuff and your patronage helps employs people who might have trouble f inding work elsewhere. I personally think the American Fork DI has a better selection but this one isn't bad, especially for clothes. There is also a bulky item section in the back of the store (seperate entrance). more

Deseret Industries is a resale shop with a variety of things at rock bottom prices. It's a great place to go and look if you're going to a 70s or 80s party. You can find a variety of clothing to choose from that will help you fit right in. You can also find great white elephant gift ideas here. There are all sorts of random and unique things. You can also find books, appliances, and other things you may need for very good prices. There is also a drive thru where you can drop off your own donations. more

If you've come to Utah for the first time and haven't yet been to Deseret Industries, better known as the "D.I." you're in for a treat. Many people would call this a thrift shop or a second hand store, but here in Utah it's as good as a department store! Some great finds here are in clothing which range to down right ghetto and oldschool (if that's what you're going to), to nice hand-me downs. Books, CD's and odds and ends are usually pretty common to come by. more

Ok, so you can find just about anything here. From shirts and ties to couches and tvs. This is the best place to go shopping. When you are on a tight budget, you are always looking for a great deal. This is the best place. The clothing selection for women is often limited, but men can find great things like suit pants, ties, and polos. The children’s clothes selection is also great, but don’t expect to find very many pairs of jeans in good condition. The book section is probably the best. There are so many to choose from, it can take awhile to sort through them (especially since they’re really in no particular order). The toy section is also great. You can find Barbies for less than a dollar, and if you’re missing a piece to one of your toys, you’ll probably find it here. You can generally find good electronics, as well. Lots of tvs, vacuums, stereos, computer equipment and much more. If you’re looking for an ugly couch, in good condition, you’ll find a good one. Just buy a slipcover, and you’re set. And if you’re looking to clean out your garage or basement, this is the best place to drop it off. more
