Nolita/Soho classic 1/8/2011

Not sure what you can say bad about da Deli, and I may have been there 30 times over the last couple years. The location is sick, heart of soho, corner spot, open air in the summer time, great people watching, friendly staff, and solid consistent food. Not trying to break any records nor your pocket book. I always send anyone visiting NYC there for brunch, lunch or some mac n cheese from the adjacent macbar when they're walking around downtown. Never a complaint, only accolades. Very kid friendly place too. Just had the open faced meatball sando recently, which was tastee. more

Great place for an early evening dinner & drink 7/11/2010

Delicatessen offers great food for the stomach and eye candy for the eyes, situated with amazing people watching views in Noho. Refreshing drinks, solid service, and reasonable prices. I'll be back. Pros: Well prepared comfort food, people watching, alfresco dining Cons: No air conditioning if you're inside more

what's not to love? 3/31/2010

I've been already for brunch, late dinners before a night on the town, etc. Aside from the awesome vibe of the place, always a decent crowd, i was really impressed by the food. Usually, cool places don't go hand in hand with good food but I was pleasantly surprised by the menu.. which is why i had to come back for more. :) While you can get a delish burger here (and c'mon, who doesnt like a good burger?!) there are also a bunch of other good things for the health conscious. Really awesome food, yummy martinis, and always a scene here. i will def be back. i'm a fan!! Pros: the food is amazingg, great cocktail list, good vibe more

Crooks 5/29/2009

Today I had lunch there and my bill was $20.29. I gave the waiter $40.00 cash and he returned with $10 in singles. When I asked why I had been short changed he simply replied that there was no ""change"" in the registers. When I asked how a restaurant could have not cash in the register (it was 3 PM and the restaurant opens around 10 AM) he offered to take $1 out of his pocket. Needless to say I refused and short changed his tip by 71 cents. I was so angry and stormed out and didn't even try to get the manager to help. I live in the neighbor and I eat there twice a week! To be treated like this is astonishing even if I wasn't a regular. Guess I will think twice the next time I want to eat out. Pros: Space is great Cons: Service and food mediocre at best more

Great menu and vibe at this place! 1/31/2009

I had a wonderful tuna tartare and burger here last week. Both were close to the best I ever had in the city, and what a cool space definitely check out the little bar down stairs. Pros: Food and design of the restaurant more

Great Neighborhood Restaurant 12/21/2008

I live close by and just went to the restaurant for the second time since it opened. What a drastic difference from the first time I went here (about 3 months ago). The food was great, service was unbeatable and there was a good social vibe in the room. Even better is that the food is very reasonably priced. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND COMING HERE for either a casual Sunday brunch, a fun dinner with friends or a nightcap. Pros: Food, Ambience, Crowd and Affordability more

Love the space 10/27/2008

Good food, good people and good drinks thats all you need and they got it. Great frisse salad and the seasonal soups are always really good. Pros: Food and space more

The place to be seen 10/7/2008

Say what you like about Delicatessen, but it's definitely the place you want to be seen in. Clientele is trendy, hip and high fashion--just about anyone walking through the door is famous. Gail Greene loved it in New York magazine and last week's New York Times review by Bruni was tongue in cheek, funny, and ultimately positive. Food is quirky--but you don't really go for the food--you go to see and be seen. It's eccentric, lively and very New York. Decor is cutting edge, menu is fun and it's always packed--go and enjoy the scene. more

Hottest new place in soho:-) 10/7/2008

I just happened to be in the neighboorhood shopping and passed by this very cool, modern restaraunt. Its decor is extremely shiek, modern and sophisticated. I decided to try the Chicken Matza Ball soup and my friend had the cheeseburger spring rolls to start. The spring rolls were a dining treat for my friend and I especially with the spicy ketchup dipping sauce. I then had the steak sandwich. I highly recommend trying this dish. The steak was cooked perfectly and deliciously seasoned. The manager came over to our table to make sure that we enjoyed our meal. She was extremely chatty, polite and quite attractive. She really worked the room and engaged all customers as far as I could see. I highly recommend this place and will be telling all of my friends. Pros: Awesome Location, Drinks, and Bar Scene more

AMAZING turkey burger. First tried Grub Hub because Seamless didn't carry this restaurant, and had a GREAT experience. more

Why All Bad Reviews?? 9/16/2008

Don't know what the other reviewees are talking about. I had lunch there on Sat and although it was a bit crowded, I thought service was friendly and fast. Food was really good, better than average. II ordered the Ban Mi sandwich w/ fries and onion rings. My other guests had the burger and ruben. I actually like the open air vibe and I love that you can people watch and still be inside. Great location and view of Soho. I would definitely come back next time I'm in NY. I am however giving it a 4 star rating only, as Rachel Zoe and her husband walked in as we were leaving... Pros: location/view, good food, fair prices, great service Cons: rachel zoe more

HORRIBLE HOT MESS.. 9/12/2008

I've never written on here before, but after eating here today I was strongly compelled to. My friends and I have been wanting to eat here for awhile. The location is great, the decor is really nice, but thats seems to be all they have to offer. \r I love food and I love eating. I'm not really picky and I usually finish all of my food, but this is one place where I didn't. The food here is absolutly disgusting. My friend asked the unenthusiastic waitress if the tuna sandwich was good, she hesitated for quite awhile and finally said that ""it wasn't her favorite""...that should have been a sign right there. I ordered the fish and chips. When it came out the fish was one big greasy mess. The napkin it was sitting on was soaked with grease. When you cut into it the over cooked batter came off, so your basiclly eating fish with a side of REALLY geasy batter. The fish was tough and stringy... I didn't even know fish could even have that texture. I thought I was eating an over cooked chicken. My friend ordered the cheeseburger. He'll eat anything, but he was so disgusted with the burger and I with my fish, that we swapped. The burger was so bland and unbelievably overcooked. I can say it was the WORST burger I've ever had. The meat was so dry that it was crumbling...I don't understand how you can F@*K up a burger, but clearly they can. My other friend ordered the Bahn Mi (Vietnamese sandwich)...she took a few bites and eventually gave up on her food as well...and from the looks of it, I didn't blame her. It's hard to justify an $11 dollar Vietnamese sandwich when you can get a really good and authentic one just a few blocks away for only $3. Needless to say we were really disappointed, because we're really big fans of Cafeteria and really wanted this to work. It has a lot of potential, but the food is sooo BAD...one of the worst we have ever had. SERIOUSLY! Pros: location, design, people watching Cons: FOOD! more

Don't believe the hype! 9/8/2008

\r Time Out New York said this place is ""Better Than It Needs To Be"" well my experience could have been a lot better. \r \r I've been wanting to visit this place for a while - the decor looks lovely and the menu looks interesting... unfortunately our server had very poor knowledge of it. After some debate with the waiteress over basic menu items, my dining partner was informed of the bizarre rule that omelettes are only served until 830am. We looked in puzzlement at the array of poached, scrambled and benedict options on the menu, and concluded that the kitchen is obviously not short of eggs at 10am. Why on earth would they refuse to make an omelette? \r \r After a lengthy wait, an espresso with no spoon, and some erroneous unordered bits and pieces arriving my 'Delicatessen Benedict' finally turned up. It had been sitting for almost as long as we had and was stone cold, and the muffin soggy. The cubed potatoes, by contrast were piping hot, and an unimaginative (and unwanted) iceburg salad is heaped on top. My friend looked at her scrambled eggs, is obviously still wondering why they couldn't have been an omelette. She then realises she's not been given a napkin and takes one from the table next door. It proceeds to lint all over her black dress. \r \r So, in short - \r \r Service: Huffy, sporadic and inaccurate\r Food: Cold n' greasy\r Ambience: Really nice and a great spot to watch the world go by\r Toilets: Fine but already starting to look a bit tatty\r \r I'm a forgiving diner and one or two of these things happening can be part of a meal - but this string of small disasters culminated in a pretty crappy experience for all concerned. \r \r Avoid. \r \r Pros: Great location and ambience Cons: Ungracious service, average food, too many mistakes more

airhead staff 9/8/2008

Been wanting to check this place out for a while. Food was ok and the atmosphere was good. The one reason I'll never go back though is the staff. The hostess was an idiot - it would have been less annoying to have nobody standing there than this airhead, totally lost and obviously avoiding all customers. When I rudely interrupted whatever mental vacation she was on, she got us to a table, leaving us with an equally stupid, but less annoying, waiter. Had to get our own drinks from the bar, and the table next to us was making fun of him/complaining every time he left their table. Pros: good scene esp when they pull up the windows upstairs Cons: bad service more

Needs A/C; food was good 9/6/2008

I had lunch the other day and the sandwich I had was good. The place was not that crowded and surprisingly (based on the reviews I have seen) filled with ""normal"" people of all ages. My biggest complaint is that it is too hot. They need to close the doors and put on the A/C. The open air idea is nice but it is too hot, steamy and smelly in NYC for it to work, especially during the summer. The decoration is quite beautiful though--I didn't see the other lounges. Pros: new, and nice decor Cons: too hot with the doors open! more

such bad food and service 9/6/2008

i'll start of by saying that i love CAFETERIA (same owners), but......... \r \r the hamburger spring rolls were completely saturated in grease (worse than TGIF) and the pastrami sandwich was a hunk of rubbery fat. they wouldn't make my sandwich ""lean"" as i requested and i could barely find a piece of the pastrami that was edible. \r \r my other issue is the crowd and the NOISE. it's like a bad Saturday Night LIve skit in there. a million loud, obnoxious yuppies piled up at the bar and overflowing into the table area.\r \r our waitress didn't seem to give a damn about helping us either.\r \r don't go. more

I'd rather eat frozen dinners. 9/4/2008

So my girlfriend and I live a few short blocks from this place and have passed by many times but tonight we went in with no expectations. We were going to Spring Natural but figured we should try something new. \r \r The host said there was a half hour wait (which is common for a Thursday at 10:30) but recommended we try the mini bar downstairs. The mini bar smelled like a bathroom so we quickly retreated upstairs and told the host. He sat us right away at a table inside. For the next half hour we waited for a server and marveled at how many people (staff and customer alike) bashed into our elbows due to the tight seating. We ordered"" a Misto Fritto"" (which was your average plate o' fried seafood), the ""Asian-Vegetable salad"" (which was okay but lacked the pea leaves it boasted on the menu), and the ""chicken in a bucket"" which was bone dry (even the dark meat!) when it got to the table. ""Banquet Fried Chicken"", which you can find in your grocery's freezer for $6, is far tastier than this restaurant's $14 entree. Stay away from the coleslaw ? it smells like the mini-bar. Oh... but the jalapeno corn bread was great.\r \r The ambiance in this place is very ""meat market"". With the bar right next to the dinning tables you are continuously surrounded by the backsides of numerous people (not something that insights my appetite). Also, the walls are open to the streets so you can constantly smell cigarettes throughout your meal.\r \r The second our food came to the table the waitress was there to ask us how it was. I had not even picked up my fork yet so I missed my chance to tell her. That was the last time we saw her until she dropped the dessert menu which we decided against since everything else about this place is so unfortunate. Oddly, I had a smile on my face the whole time because I knew that we never had to come here again.\r \r On a scale from 1-10? Don't go. Pros: Location Cons: Food, Service, Smoke, Ambience, more

Worst Service I've Ever Experienced 8/20/2008

I have never posted a review on Citysearch before, but my bad experience at Delicatessen drove me to open an account first thing this morning just so I could warn others...\r \r I went to Delicatessen for dinner last night with three other girls. We arrived at the restaurant on time, and my friend told the hostess that our party of four was ready to be seated. The hostess looked at her quizzically and said that she thought we were only supposed to be a party of two. We spent the next HOUR standing around while the two hostesses did nothing. Every time we went over to the hostess' stand to inquire about our table, they were rude and acted like we were bothering them. Eventually, we were the only people seated at two pushed together tables outside on the sidewalk despite the chilly weather. Eating at this restaurant was not a pleasant experience. The food is fine, but it does not make up for the incompetent wait staff. Pros: Location Cons: Service more

Long wait for whatever food 8/18/2008

We live in the area and I didn?t have high hopes but I really just wanted another ""go to"" place for easy food. We ended up going for brunch the atmosphere is nice, and let?s face it the location is great, but that?s about it. We ordered the Asian Salad which I think had soy sauce on it as its dressing, but thank god we at least had that, because the food took nearly an hour to get. My wife ordered the waffles which she actually did like but I had the fish and chips which were just like any other fish and chips I?ve had. The worst part was waiting though, they couldn?t even get us a fresh glass of Ice tea without taking a half hour, and by the time it finally came the ice had melted. I know some places have bumps when they first open but we eat out a lot and let?s face it I?m a New Yorker and have no patience to wait for food that is just ok. \r \r Pros: Ambience Cons: Service more
