Thanks Dead Poet Books for awesome customer service 2/22/2008

I'm taking the time to write this quick review about Dead Poet Books because the people that work there do offer great customer service. \r Knowing nothing about books, I decided to stop in there to find some information about a rare book I had recently stumbled upon. I was lucky enough to have Linda working at the time of my visit. Basically, I walked in with a book in hand and she was kind enough to spend a few minutes of her time researching information about my book. After spending a few minutes on the computer she came back to me and briefly explained what she had found about the book I had. Not only was she very knowledgeable about what she was explaining to me , she explained it in a way that any customer would appreciate. Thanks for the awesome help Linda. I really appreciate the time you spent. You guys have even gained a customer....I saw a few books that will make excellent future gifts. Austin Pros: The old library look, feel, and smell! Cons: no website more

Great atmosphere and nice selection 12/31/2007

I have been going to Dead Poet Books since they were used to be located at Sahara and Valley View, and with the move to Rainbow, the selection has gotten even better. The staff was always friendly and helpful every time I visited, and the selection of books was always wide and varied. With the closure of Albion Books, this is one of the best remaining locations in town to find that book you wanted, along with LPs and other esoteric items. Pros: Large selection, helpful staff Cons: Some items not available (such as Heinlein) more

Poor customer service, mediocre overpriced selection 11/10/2007

The first thing I noticed when I entered was a man speaking very loudly on his cell phone and the staff appeared to have no problem with this. Not five minutes later when I asked my friend a question, I was chastised rudely by an older female staff member for being too loud. \r \r The selection was mediocre at best. These are the types of books you can find just about anywhere, and for cheaper to boot. \r \r My friend I came close to closing time, at about 5:30, and staff hounded us to leave. Working in retail, I can understand a few subtle hints to let a customer know that you are closing soon (turning off music, shutting one of the doors, etc.), but actually walking up to a customer at 5:50 and telling them, ""We close in ten minutes, please finish soon."" is just plain rude.\r \r I was very unimpressed with both the service and the quality and quantity of product, and will never shop there again. I recommend trying the used book store on Rancho and Charleston (their name escapes me), or Mike's Used Books (they don't have too much selection, but they are very cheap and friendly) on Tropicana and Pecos. Pros: good decoration, easy to manuever through shelving units, relatively well organized Cons: rude staff, expensive more
