I think these guys do good work, but know that they are as expensive as going to a dealer. I don't think they are great at solving problems in an economical way. They will solve...

I have been bringing my vehicles to David Word Automotive for several years and find them to be exceptionally competent and very thorough. In fact, on more than one occasion while doing routine maintenance, they have discovered/diagnosed other serious problems of which I would have otherwise been unaware. I have never encountered a problem which they have been unable to fix! more

In response to older jag as the owner of David Word Automotive I have an objection to your tip we do everything in our power to achieve customer satisfaction. You had problems with your vehicle that were the result of the Candian atmosphere the vehicle had lived in previously. We qouted the job based on what we knew was wrong,once vehicle was torn down further problems were discovered. You were made aware of the additional repairs necessary to get the vehicle driveable. Also the bill came in under estimate. I am sorry you bought a vehicle that now you wish you had not but why write nasty tips on those who try to help. I think with a little research you will find the dealer has no interest in working on older Jags and if they did the prices would be much higher. We have always tried to keep our customers happy, did you contact us with your thoughts or just write negative reviews? Lack of communication is what leads to good companies receiving negative reviews affecting that companies business. more

I think these guys do good work, but know that they are as expensive as going to a dealer. I don't think they are great at solving problems in an economical way. They will solve the problem, but like a dealer you will pay top dollar for it. I am convinced I overpaid a lot. I thought I had a $500 repair and it ended up costing me $1700. That is a big repair bill for something that wasn't major. more

Long time customer 1/29/2012

My wife and I have been using David Words for auto repair for over 13 years. She used them even before that. The location was the first draw as we know many people in the auto repair business. They have kept her '91 300TE running and in great shape. We have gotten to know many of the employees and trust their advice. She likes the fact that they always call to let her know what is wrong and give estimates. This allows her to prioritize what needs to be done. more

they fix anything 1/18/2012

I bring all my vehicles to david word. They work on anything. I had a very intermittant engine problem ran great some times and some times hardly at all. They spent the time to make sure they found the source and fixed it keeping my antique on the road and running strong ! My wife can take her Bmw there and I dont have to worry about them overcharging her or misleading her like many other shops do to women. They treat her well and dont try to sell her a bunch of flushes and services we dont really need. I would recommend them to anyone. more

Good guys - very thorough 12/13/2011

As mentioned in other reviews, these guys are very thorough, and explain everything that needs to be done to your vehicle. I trusted a very rare 1973 BMW 2002tii to David Word Auto, and they always delivered beyond expectation. more

I have been taking my cars to David Word since 1994 - BMWS, Hondas, and Fords have all been repaired excellently, on-time, and on-price. Highly recommended. more

Here's a fair review 10/6/2011

I've taken a number of vehicles to David Word Automotive over the years and found their service unquestionable. They recently looked over a car that I wanted to buy and gave me an informative review that prevented me from wasting a lot of money. THEY ARE THOROUGH and I expect for others that might make it appear that they do unnecessary work. That's really not the case. I have taken Chev, Volvos and a Mercedes etc to them and in each case they provided a complete assessment of the problems. I was given the opportunity to choose the work I wanted done and wasn't in anyway pressured to do otherwise. The work was excellent and the pricing competitive. I've repeatedly recommended them to friends and they share my confidence in this company. Admittedly, I have taken the time to write this review because I thought the other contributors are really misleading the readers and wanted to try and correct, what is to me, an unfortunate assessment of DW Automotive. more

Bring your vaseline! 6/14/2010

Not only have I personally fallen prey to this shyster, but many friends that I have misguidedly referred to him over the years have too! David is a s-m-o-o-t-h talker and draws you into believing that he will do the work cheaper than anyone else in Richmond. He also sometimes offers to give you a ""discount"" on the work he does. DON'T buy it! He just marks up his hours of labor and parts fees -- then gives you a ""discount"" .... HA! Further, he makes a habit of standing in the shop reception area and goes over your itemized bill ... ALOUD -- for all to hear! Then he makes a big deal of how hard he's supposedly worked on your vehicle and makes it seem that he is doing you a ""favor"" .... when all the time the work could/would have been done cheaper at another shop! Take your car to Sam Haboush or Twin Star .... don't even slow down to stop by David Word Automotive! Cons: Disrespectful, misogynistic, LIAR! more

I have to agree with the other reviews. My friends recommended David Word and many have known him for years. They all told me great stories of service. Not sure what has happened there, but my experience was different. Pros: Seem to know what they are doing Cons: Didn't call before doing the work. more

Avoid this place if you're a woman, especially. Condescending, will rip you off and insensitive! 7/18/2008

I'd been going to David Word Auto for over a year. They just lost one of their loyal customers today. I made an appt. for an oil change, state inspection, tire rotation & balance and air filter change. I also asked them to check fluids, belts and hoses. When I dropped my car off, I asked them to call me if anything unexpected came up as well as when it was ready to be picked up. The last time I was in, I was ""encouraged"" to get a 30K mile ""checkup,"" which I declined. Today, I was asked how many miles I had on my car (over 36K), and was asked the same question. I said I hadn't gotten the 30K check-up. I knew I was in for trouble then. Pros: Convenience to business Cons: Very condescending to women, smug attitude, mechanic made joke about mentally retarded whichI did not appreciate. Didn't call when requested (re: unexpected repair) more

Most dishonest repair shop in Richmond 2/4/2008

This shop is not very honest. The owner does not mind performing unnecessary work and charging a premium price for it. Every time I get work done there I have to return up to four times to get it fixed right. David Word is a smooth talker...too smooth for me. Try Twin Star, they do a much better job.. Pros: decent location Cons: absolutely no parking more
