Yummy baked goods! 4/13/2010

We heard about this bakery from the next door Serious Pie waitress who raved about the coconut cream pie. So, of course, we had to try it! Though, when we went it was already closed. So the next morning we tried again and we got a fig bar, yogurt and granola cup, and a bitesize coconut cream pie to-go (they put it in a small chinese to-go looking box which was perfect ). I absolutely LOVED all of them, and I REALLY enjoyed the granola and yogurt cup which I kept craving throughout my visit in seattle~ Definitely worth a visit to taste some of their baked goods. I would for sure go back if ever back in seattle. Pros: Bitesize coconut creame pie, fig bars, yogurt & granola Cons: No place to dine, closes early more

Great place for some soup and bread 3/21/2010

When I get a chance for a qick bite in downtown Seattle I head to the Dahlia Bakery. On a cold or wet or overcast day a warm bowl of soup always sounds great and the Dahlia Bakery delivers. There are other soup flavors, but my favorite is their house made tomato. A bowl of soup includes a piece of bread as well. Long-time Favorite 3/11/2010

The Dahlia Lounge remains one of my Seattle favorites, as it has consistently delivered delicious Northwest cuisine and good service since I started dining at Tom Douglas restaurants 14 years ago. I was sad to see the Dahlia move to its current larger space, because I loved the intimacy of the smaller Dahlia. However, the dimly lit dining room with hand-blown northwest glass and the discrete servers who are usually interesting people create the magic needed for an intimate dinner for 2 or 10. Tom Douglas invented Northwest cuisine, and he continues to impress with his varied and creative menu options. My favorite actual pie in Seattle is undoubtedly, invariably, the luscious, one of a kind true Seattle recipe for creamy coconut cream pie to be found only at Tom Douglas' little bakery on 4th avenue, called Dahlia. Lots of places have pie in Seattle. If you try and compare bakeries, you will not find a better slice of pie than that coconut cream pie at Dahlia. It literally is the one item that keeps people coming there every single day. Very fresh, very creamy, absolutely best of breed coconut cream pie. Tom, if you are listening, this is the reason that Dahlia is successful -- but one little smidgeon of feedback -- the crust could be just a little bit flakier. But, don't get me wrong -- you still have the best in town! Readers, you can even go and get a $2 mini-pie ""bite"" there if you don't want to buy the whole thing. Like a cupcake, but in pie form. Great Brunch Spot 9/8/2009

My husband and I have been hearing about this place so we decided to give it a try, and we were not disappointed. The brunch was amazing! We have sense been back several times and have taken out of town guests who shared our sentiments. The wait staff is always friendly. We have been for dinner as well and wasn?t as thrilled, we enjoy the brunch menu a lot more. The price is a little high for 2 people if you get a Mimosa or Bloody Mary, but it?s worth the splurge! Pretty decent Sunday lunch. 6/27/2009

I was not blown away, but it was a nice meal. I had a crab cake with some roasted potatoes which was very nice. My wife had the cheese burger and tells me that ""the meat was very juicy and the veg was perfect. The fries were nicely seasoned"". I will go out again to try the full menu. I really hope to be blown away! Please don't let me down again Seattle! Pros: Nice server, good atmosphere. Cons: Long wait to get our food. more

The definition of mediocrity 9/17/2008

My girlfriend and I live a few blocks away from the restaurant and decided to try it out. We had avoided it in the past because of the expensive prices but decided to treat ourselves. Don't make the same mistake we did! Save yourself some money and get a decent meal. There was nothing special about this place. Neither the food nor the service warrant the outrageous prices. Okay food, cool service 8/1/2008

Our family of four came for lunch, and while the food was good, it wasn't outstanding or memorable. The salads were salads with nothing special to mark them from other restaurants, the tomato soup was good but truly not anything that stood out. What was memorable was the decidedly cool attitude of our server. She was servicable but not helpful nor warm in anyway, she was much more responsive to the businessmen lunching behind us. The lunch menu is very short, by the way. Be forewarned. If I were going to spend $20 a head on lunch, I wouldn't do it here. My wife and I have wanted to try Dahlia's Bakery for some time after having read the many outstanding and glowing reviews. At last, we were able to get ourselves downtown to sample the much lauded coconut cream pie and were very much disappointed. To those who rave about this product, I can only assume that you have never tasted a proper pie crust - rich, light, and flaky. The crust on this pie had the consistency and texture of dried plaster and had little flavor as well. While the filling was creamy and had an abundance of coconut, it too lacked flavor. The mini pie is 18 bucks and does not come close to being worthy of the accolades it receives. Don't bother!! more

Oldie but a goodie 4/15/2008

Took a big group of out-of-towners here a few weeks back and the food was exceptionally good. The service was very good, but the waiter seemed like he was new and still getting his footing. It's easy to get jaded about Tom Douglas and his ""empire"", but this place still has it. more

If you are a Seattleite, a transplant, or a visitor, you MUST eat at any of Tom Douglas's restaurants while you're here. I'm only doing one review but I'll cover all my bases. Tom Douglas creates masterpieces for the palate that you cannot create at home. . . even with his cookbooks. All of his restaurants have great ambiance and a unique flare in the decor. Their bakery also offers mighty fine bites. Pros: All Cons: Leave the kids at home. more

Great service, average food, overprized 12/25/2007

The high expectations we had due to the great reviews were somewhat disappointed. While the service was great and the restaurant offers a a nice ambience the food was average at best . The seafood sampler tasted as it was prepared much earlier and was sitting a fridge for quite a while. The menu leaves the impression it is created to get the maximum throughput for the restaurant . The wine list does not seem to be paired to the menu at all. more

Amazing Food at Great Prices 10/22/2007

This was an amazing final stop in a recent trip to Seattle. The sandwiches (I had the apple/brie/walnut sandwich and my partner had the turkey sandwich) were among the best deli-style sandwiches we've ever eaten. The white bean soup was perfectly seasoned. The baked goods (chocolate chip cookie, oatmeal apricot cookie, fig bar and triple chocolate tart) were also perfect. A great place, with outdoor seating. My only regret is that we didn't have time to try the main lounge next door! Next time... Pros: Location, price, quality of food Cons: No indoor seating more

Very Memorable 9/30/2007

I ate here with my daughter (age 15) at the end of a weekend spent in Seattle. The menu seemed rather limited, but we both took the plunge and ordered things we normally wouldn't order. The braised short ribs that I ordered were fabulous. She stills talks about the meal and especially the donut dessert. This is a great place for a memorable meal. more
