Dad's Karaoke

Visiting my sister and her friend in San Antonio for the weekend, we decided to try out Dad's since both my sister and I like to sing. The waitress was attentive and efficient, we got a killer buzz on and enjoyed the karaoke (didn't have to wait very long to sing). That is the positive. The thing that ruined it for me is getting taken down to the ground by an overly zealous bouncer because I disagreed with his comments he made to me. Shortly before that a female bar patron came up to me and told me I "had not asked her permission" to take her picture. Evidently, the random shots of people and goings-on of the bar I was snapping really offended her. She told the bouncer about it, the bouncer had words with me about it, I told him that was a ridiculous complaint she made, he threw me down to the ground, yada, yada, yada. So, people if you like to have a peaceful drinking and karaokeing experience, avoid Dad's at all costs. You might get in a bar fight over some ridiculous B.S. reason. To the white fat-guy, twenty something bouncer that took me down. I exercised restraint because unlike you I am a mature adult and jail is not an option for an upstanding, civil citizen such as myself. Plus, I was with my friends and didn't want to drag them into any undue drama. So, you're welcome for not kicking your ass. To the white female who took offense to being randomly in one of my pictures. Get over yourself. It won't steal your soul to be a random subject in a party picture. If you're hiding the fact that you're out at the bar from your husband, AA sponsor, or significant other, you've got bigger problems than me. You are pathetic. To Dad's owners and management, you will want to closely monitor your bouncing staff. You wouldn't want them to get your club into any legal troubles. more

started out great, til i got my first drink, crown and coke was clear and watered down??melted ice floating??? sent it back , got the same thing back. finally after complaining 3 times, they made it right. how do you mess up crown and coke?? Dj was absolutely rude, like singing kareokee was something u had to kiss ass to do, and let his friends sing back to back songs while everyone waited thier turn! I complained and got cussed out by the DJ. I will never return to that spot, the staff needs to learn to bartend and they need learn better people skills. What a horrible expierence , Im so sorry i invited my friends and family there!! NOt Recommended more

I went here for the first time last week and had a great time. It is small and local but has a great electric feeling about it as soon as you walk in. Drinks are good price and everybody cheers on everybody. They even got me to get up and dance while others were singing but it was just because everyone was so friendly and upbeat. Here's the deal people.... If you want to go to a place that is hosting Karaoke.... Dad's is the place to be.... Plain and Simple... The bar staff is absolutely amazing.... personable and exciting.... the owners are really down to earth... and i also enjoy the two drink minimun that they have there.... it helps with the cheap karaoke junkies that drink nothing but tap water of crowding up the rotation with horrible versions of the ever so popular "journey" or "survivor"... the Karaoke hosts are amazing as well.... even though they have had a few changes in personnel.... the more familiar hosts are always a breath of fresh air (i.e. Mike and Jared).... with promises of some interior upgrades..... dads will continue to be on top of my list to go and sing the night away... Dad's rocks, but the DJ Mike needs to go! Unless you're a girl willing to flirt with him plan on sitting for hours between song rotations. Unlike other (more professional) DJs Mike doesn't keep track of rotations - especially as the night goes on. The bar staff, owners and establishment are great. It's a fun, small neighborhood bar to be able to hang out in. more

They need to get rid of DJ Mike. He's horrible, pompous and cant run sound worth a dang. If a singer is better than he is, he turns the singers mike down or even off. The ones who tip him he cranks up the mikes, no matter how horrible the singer is. He's rude, crude. He hits up on any woman who is willing to even say Hi to him. He's a professional, but it is not an entertainer or a karaoke HOST. Hosting doesn't mean you're the star. It means you're just a host. The more he drinks, the more he shifts the singer rotations. I'm sure more singers would be willing to stay or even return if he weren't doing the gigs on the weekends. Someone leaving the bar means they're spending money elsewhere... and keeping customers happy is what customer service is all about. So folks go elsewhere and business - and money - goes elsewhere. Nice, friendly people. Good music selection, but a little smokey and raggedy. The super cool fat chicks were a riot, and the unlevel floors made me trip a few times. But everyone helped me up when I needed it. Don't use the bathroom because the toilets don't work and the ceiling leak might make you miss the bowl if you've had a few. I've seen a good number of karaoke bars in my time but this one is definitely the best in town. The Dj's keep the rotations fair and fast. They have lots of good songs and on any night you can hear people sing country, rock, Sinatra.. pretty much anything. I like their music because they have some country songs I could never find at other karaoke places. Definitely worth checking out sometime. They've changed management just this past year, so if you've been there a long time ago you may want to try it again. It's a real cozy, family-run karaoke bar (they have karaoke every night). The owners are extremely nice, and the drinks are very reasonably priced. I'm a college student, so it's always nice to take a break from the wild bars and 120 degree clubs for a laid-back bar to hang out with some friends. Their karaoke selection is vast! The feedback on the mic is almost non-existent. The set-up is very open, and the ambiance is pretty accepting. Definitely a fun, hidden jewel in San Antonio. I have been going to Dad's Sing Along Club for several years now. With over 40,000 Songs to choose from, I have always had a great time! NEW OWNERS have taken over and I just love the changes they have made! They are singer's themselves and they know what KARAOKE singers want! Great drinks specials & great special events! You don't have to wait till 9:00 pm, like many other Karoake events to start either! Open Monday - Friday night at 8:00 pm - 2:00 am, weekends 7pm- 2:00 am. They have a NEW EVENT starting Nov. 6th, 08--- Happy Hour from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm - - - ONE singer gets to sing the entire Happy Hour - - - no waiting in a rotation line! A Karaoke singer's DREAM come true! You have to call them to reserve your night in advance. So get your favorite song list ready and sign up!
