For $160 a steak, with everything a la carte, you would expect the steak to be outstanding - but it wasn't!

Not what we expected - on any level! 10/17/2011

OVERRATED 3/23/2011

We decided to go here for my husband's 40th, and I will highlight the evening. Arrived and was seated during some sort of alarm/flashing light was going off. I had a slight headache from the strobe lights. Did not get the meat preview/overview, meat was not done properly and had to send back and ate it 10 minutes after everyone else had eaten their food. Double-charged for drinks and when we brought all this to the manager's attention, not really apologetic. For this kind of $, I expect a lot more. Especially because Spago is completely opposite. Will not go back. more

DISAPPOINTING overrated and terribly slow service 12/15/2009

I was excited to go here after reading a lot of the great reviews. Pros: brussel sprout dish was good Cons: vastly overpriced, cannot do anything other than med rare, more

Highly entertaining scene at Sidebar 11/7/2009

Echoing comments from others, Sidebar is a great spot albeit only once in a while because it is overwhelming to the senses. On my most recent foray to Sidebar, the staff members were great (i.e. very pleasant, attentive, no attitude), the drinks strong and the appetizers delicious. As to the people watching - CLASSIC!!! Including several hookers, one porn star, Russian and New Jersey mafia, a transvestite, too many gold-diggers, several Cougars, plenty of the clueless, the bewildered and the surgically-enhanced. Pros: Great service/drink/food, crazy fun people watching Cons: Sensory overload more

Overpriced Confusing Presentation 1/18/2009

If you want to be swept up into the world of over-glamorizing steak, then this place is for you. The room is cold and noisy. The view is of the entry and exit ramp for cars coming and going from the hotel. It's a scene, not relaxing nor is the food worth the price. Try Dan Tana's or the Grill. They always have had good steak and you know what you will get. Also try the chains like Arnie Mortons and Ruth's Chris, the original shrines to a piece of meat. Pros: Great Variety But Confusing Cons: Price, Room, and Service more

Great steak 1/5/2009

Really enjoyed the flavor of the steak and it was cooked to perfection, would definitely send my friends there. Pros: Good cut of beef more

Never so tender 12/17/2008

OMG my steak was so tender it melted in my mouth. Really love this place. It is pricey and has some attitude at the door but all was forgiven once I tasted the food. Pros: tender melts in your mouth Cons: pricey more

Superb Steaks. Devine Service. 11/9/2008

This is one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles. If you like steaks, ( and fish), want to see service at its best, and dont mind paying a lot for teh best this is the place for you. Pros: Simply Amazing more

What a disappointment and rude service 8/27/2008

Four of us went last night for dinner. The appetizers took 45 minutes to come out and were unimpressive. The waiter was rude when we inquired on how they were coming along after 35 minutes of waiting. The tempura soft shell crab was cold and the kobe sashimi was swimming in an overwhelming sauce. The steaks were horrible. One of the filets came out raw when we ordered it medium and the waiter proceeded to argue with me that maybe I wanted it well done then. The new york strip was a lousy cut from the end that was super thick and narrow. Not the type of steak I would expect to be served at $60 a pop. The sides were nothing special and the mushrooms with shishito peppers were nauseating. All in all a horrible meal but at least the manager was nice enough to say he was going to comp dessert for us and then forgot to take that off the bill as well. The only upside of the meal were the fries which were really good and the sliders were good too. Pros: French Fries & Sliders Cons: Steaks, Appetizers, Service- Trifecta!!!! more

Great ambience but NOT very good steaks 7/28/2008

The ambience was great but I cannot say the same for our steaks. I ordered the Nebraska 35 day aged New York steak and my table mate ordered a American Wagyu Filet. The steaks were dry and charred on top. We both ordered the steaks medium rare and the steaks were anything but. The ends of the steak were medium well and middle was maybe medium. The bar tender offered to get us another steak but we passed. We didn't feel like waiting another 25 mins for our food. The manager of the restaurant was nice and invited us back to try Cut again. I doubt I would go back, MASTROS is my place for steaks. Pros: Great Appetizers and ambience Cons: Steaks are not very good. more

not that impressed 7/11/2008

I am a self proclaimed foodie and love a great steak. I have had Wagyu before (at the French Laundry) which was wonderful, so when I ordered it from CUT I expected excellence and was very disappointed. The 6 oz Wagyu filet mignon was requested to be cooked medium-rare, and came out more on the medium side, and in some parts of the steak almost medium well. The steak as a whole was not cooked evenly which was a surprising for a restaurant of that caliber. The appetizer on the other hand, was very unique and flavorful, but still did not make up for the fact that they ruined a great piece of steak by not cooking in right. My friend who I was with ordered the Rib-eye, and although they claim to have nicely ""marbled"" steaks, hers left something to be desired. More than 30% of her steak was fat. I do have to say though that the flavor on both of the steaks was very good. Pros: the service was outstanding Cons: the steak was not prepared properly more

wasn't that impressed 7/10/2008

I have been to the CUT in Las Vegas. This one doesn't even compare. more

Great location and people watching. 5/22/2008

My boyfriend and I decided to try CUT for his birthday dinner last night. Even booking three weeks in advance, all I got was a 9:00 reservation. We arrived at 8:15, and checked in with the hostess, who was nice. Perhaps it was because I was polite and didn?t demand ?a good table,? like some reviewers. We told her we would be at Sidebar. My boyfriend got the midsommer and Rosemary Collins; I had the Wilshire and bellissima. The drinks were pretty stiff, though $17 is steep. Pros: starters, amuse bouche, service, mixed drinks, celebrity sightings Cons: some of the food could use more work, making the price steep for what you get. more

The perfect restaurant 4/4/2008

This is the perfect restaurant. They have the best steaks, best bread, best fries, best of everything. Superior service, friendly waiter, extremely attentive bus boy. Five stars all around, will return for sure. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Rather OUTBACK 1/15/2008

Well i had to make reservations for a month out and still had a bad table near the kitchen door. I don't understand when i emphasized to the hostess on the line that i wanted a good table for 4 id end up sitting in that place. Well all was well no problem. Until the ordering came. The waiter was in a rush to take our order and just saying he will come back every 2 min to see if we were ready. Having never been to this restaurant i wanted to read what was on the menu. Maybe they should publish what they make online so we can get an idea what to expect to eat right when we get there. Besides this lets move on to the food. Nice and visually appealing but not flavorful. No way in heck did my steak taste normal let alone great. I'd take my money for a 20 ounce Melbourne at OUTBACK then this place again, but in all it was an experience. None of my family wished to return to this restaurant again and if your craving a variety of meats. Fuga De Chao is better on that part and great service too. As an option if you don't like the Aussie style Outback. Face it, if you can do some research and read about a restaurant i'm sure you can learn a new way to cook your own steak at home on a nice fire grill just as good. And remember when you go out to eat at places like CUT you take a chance. Kinda like Roulette. But don't take my word for it. Give it a try. We do live in America where we are free to eat and think what we like. Just my 2 cents. Pros: There were some good lookin ladys. Cons: Everything else. more

CUT ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1/14/2008

What a wonderful dining experience - my friends and I went several months more

Best Steak Ever!! 12/24/2007

WOW - doesn't even describe this restaurant - this experience. Try the Japanese Kobe - it's expensive - but you won't be disappointed. Service is incredible - atmosphere top notch - by far the best meal we've ever had (and we've had plenty) at an upscale restaurant. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could! Hope to visit LA again - only to go to Cut - it's worth the trip wherever you are coming from! Pros: Kobe Steak; Atmosphere; Service and Desserts.... the FOOD! Cons: Price; music way too loud - and strangely classic rock music? more

Insolent service by the hostess 11/1/2007

I usually don't take time to write bad reviews: I just don't frequent the place again if I don't like it. However, the treatment that my husband and I got when we arrived for his birthday dinner last Friday was implorable. I'd made a really early reservation (5:30pm) for a birthday dinner. We were driving in from Agoura Hills so with traffic it took us about 2 hours to get to the restaurant. When I realized that we would be running late I called the restaurant TWICE before our reservation time to let them know we would be late. They informed me of the 15 minute grace period. When we arrived at the restaurant we were 25 minutes late but still it was only 5:50. The restaurant was EMPTY! The lady I spoke to on the phone was courteous and was trying to figure out what to do when another hostess rudely interrupted us and told us that the table was released and we coud eat at the bar. We pleaded that this was a special occasion and we already knew our table wasn't re-booked till 7pm why couldn't we sit and quickly order? I guaranteed that we would order as soon as we were sat. She obviously was enjoying this and had no intention of trying to accomodate us nor did she feel bad about it. If the situation would have been handled with a different attitude, we probably would have eaten at the bar. But this hostess was the rudest person I'd even encountered in LA. She didn't even apologize or even sympathize with our situation. She was enjoying her power trip. I wonder if she knows she's not finding the cure to cancer in her position- she's seating people and handing out menus for goodness sake. We eat out a lot and love steak but I'd never go back there until the management reassesses the quality of their service at the hostess stand. Pros: good food and nice decor Cons: rude and insolent hostess more
