Total Rip Off 6/18/2016

I called Curtis Total Service on a Saturday Night as I had a main line backed up in the basement. When they returned my call I was told it would be $185 and he would need a credit card to verify. When he arrived at the house I was told that the price would be $400. If I did not hire him he would get the $185 for showing up. As I needed the work done I reluctantly agreed. He also charged and extra $90 dollars to knock out and old sewer cap that took him 30 seconds. By the time he was finished the price was through the roof. I would never use this service again and would not tell anyone else to use it either. They should be investigated for fraud. more

Curtis Total Service is a top-notch company that has serviced our plumbing & HVAC system for years. Recently we needed a lot of plumbing work done because of our house remodel. It is nice have a company that I can trust in regards to quality work, billing, and customer service. Always a pleasure working with them!!! more

DO NOT USE, EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. Degrading manager response. 8/25/2015

I signed up for the service contract - 2 visits (1 for AC, 1 for heating system). We have 2 units so had to get 2 contracts. The 2 guys were knowledgeable and touched up a few things. Then came the shocker. They had to replace the capacitor on the outside unit. Their quote after the service contract 10% discount - $ 447. I should have stopped them right there, but would not know if there were other problems or if the system would work. They suggested changing the 40amp wiring contactor also. I said go ahead to avoid any future problems - $310 for that. I then went online and looked at prices for the capacitor and the contactor. Both were online for a total of $120. That was a shocker. I could see charging double and doing the repair for a total of $ 300. Even that would be too high. But charging $726 - that is totally unreasonable. Any honest company would do it for $300 total. I should have told them to hold off so I could get quotes from other companies, but then they would not be able to see if that would fix the problem or if the rest of the system would work. They did do some other touch ups, answered my questions, and gave a slight discount. But $ 726 for 2 basic replacements, on top of the $550 service contract. That totals almost $1,300. And they will return to look at the heating system in a few months. It was quality work, but almost triple what other companies would charge. Another company charged $180 to replace the motor on the outside unit, and Curtis charged me $726 for replacing a capacitor and contactor ? I am very unhappy and left a message on their Account voicemail. I now see the other reviews of their extremely high charges, which seem to be the norm for them. My neighbor recommended them, but I should have done my homework. Get quotes from different companies and don't be talked into spending a ridiculous amount of money for a basic repair. I cannot recommend Curtis. more

Unadulterated Price-gouging 2/7/2013

My hot water heater broke immediately before I had to leave town on business. They arrived at my house after I left and my girlfriend was home by herself (and I think they tried to start taking advantage the second they saw it was just a single woman in the house). When my flight landed, she sent a text saying that one guy was there for 3 hours and they charged total $2200 for the hot water heater (the bill was just a lump-sum; they didn't break out labor and material costs). I looked up the unit they installed on Amazon, and it was a $700 unit (It was just a standard Bradford White atmospheric 50 gallon natural gas water heater). The math worked out to be $500/hour for labor!!! I immediately called the company and told them that $500/hour is a higher billing-rate than most high-powered lawyers. After threatening to uninstall the unit myself and returning it, they immediately knocked almost $1000 off the bill, making it at least close to something reasonable, but it still shouldn't have to be that way. I honestly think that they tried price-gouging as soon as my girlfriend answered the door. As far as workmanship goes, they did a good job. But next time, I'm going to give my business to somebody I can actually trust. Having a hot-water heater break is already a hassle; why make it even more of a hassle by dealing with people who are openly trying to take advantage of you? more

NEVER use this company 5/25/2011

Do not EVER use Curtis Total Service, Inc for any home repair service!!!! We called them when we had our plumbing issues on May 18th. They charge $77.00 just to come out to "look" then wanted to charge us over $400.00 to snake it. We told them no and to leave. Today, May 25th we get a certified letter from an attorney's office billing us for $227.00! I called Curtis Total Service, and was told I need to talk to the attorney. I said we never got a bill and I would bring her the $77, she said we have to deal with the Attorney. Called attorney, had to leave a message. This is horrible service! Terrible Company! more

Good Company. Technicians are polite and friendly. They were very nice to my dog too. I had a clog in my toilet. I called them in the morning and they came and fixed my problem the same day. I was very satisfied. I hope my toilet doesnt clog again but if it does I know who to call for next time. more

way overpriced; poor workmanship; Stay away 3/3/2010

My hot water heater broke 2 years after Curtis installed it. Even though the heater was still under warranty, they said they would charge me $1100 to change out the old for the new even though it would only take 2 hours. This was more than the original parts+labor was. When I asked the manager to explain this discrepancy he said "That's just what the price is." WAY OVERPRICED. Poor workmanship. STAY AWAY. more

No extra charges 3/1/2010

I called three place until I called Curtis and got a real person on the phone to explain my issue to... I was having drainage problems in my backyard. They said that their technican would come out to assess the situation. There guy came out - I think his name was Jeff and he told me what the problem was. I knew it was not going to be an easy fix. They gave me a price to get the job done. They started the next day. Frozen ground, snow and a little sleet they excavated and had to come back for three days -for a job that was supposed to be one day AND DID NOT CHARGE ME ANYTHING EXTRA! which was pretty cool. I was very happy with their service and there follow-up afterwards. - Dan more

"John" has done several jobs for us and is always very nice and keeps us informed when need be or if a problem arises. Dear Mr. Curtis My Husband and I want to thank you and the two work-men who fixed our kitchen sink drain. When I called after your first visit the sink was still clogged. I was frustrated and concerned about cost and no solution to the problem. You listened and promised to call back. About 30 minutes later you did return my call with an offer to cut out the clogged pipe and replace it. The additional price given was a fair one. By 2:30 the next day the drain was open!
