I was here for the lunch buffet which had an emphasis on the veg dishes for the first time..No restaurants nearby really care about customers who are vegetarians (may be because they are relatively small in number). Food was awesome. I was told that Tuesdays are going to be veg specials at curry house,. I liked the clean presentation of the buffet too. Pros: food quality and taste, a great deal at $6.99 Cons: can't think of more

The worst,unhygenic,ill mannered place 9/12/2009

you feel like throwing up eating at this place. I unfortunately gave a catering order here once and had the worst experience ever, just stay away from this place. Cons: it has all the cons that a bad restuarant can have more

Worst food.... 9/11/2009

I happen to have the worst Indian Food ever. Service is pathetic. Server didn't even know what are raisins, so go figure. This is what happens when you have a thambi to cook north indian dishes. Please stay away from this place. Cons: Everything more

2 out of 10 8/17/2009

A restaurant should have atleast one of these: good food or ambience or service. This restaurant has none. The chef probably has never eaten good food in his life, otherwise he wont be serving what he cooks. Age old interiors, and the service sucls. The bar seems to be ok. I dont care whether they do jazz or kareoke, if you need good food when you are hungry, this is not the place. I wonder how they are getting by, for the menu is way overpriced for the taste they provide. Cons: Too many to list..see details more

Great food! 8/7/2009

I had tried Indian food about 3 times previously at places everyone said was the best place in RIC. Well, I hated it. I've enjoyed everything I've ever ordered at Curry House - Chicken69, Tandoori shrimp, chicken Makhani, and any dosa, especially the onion masala dosa rava. In fact, when I go out there, I always bring food for my husband - he LOVES it. Since everything is made fresh it can take a bit longer from the kitchen, but that is understandable. Sometimes I have had problems with servers and language issues, but they have a manager now who speaks English very well. Also, there are two great bartenders who do take great care of you at the bar. Overall, it's a great dining experience. Pros: Great food, great bar service Cons: Slow serving time, language issue with servers more

Setting the record straight 3/6/2009

I really don't know what the heck any of the last 2 people are talking about. I have been going there regularly for the past 12 months and I can list the following attributes that I have seen and experienced at the Curry House. more

Still don't like it, but it's slightly better. 2/10/2009

First of all, I am not affiliated with any Indian restaurant. I went back to Curry House last weekend because I was in the area and was hungry for some Indian food. I thought I'd give it a chance. Fortunately, the guy to whom I refered in my previous review was not there. This time, the service was quite good, but the food was still mediocre (by the way, this was the lunch buffet, not off the menu). The goat, chicken, and dal were all really tomato-ey tasting...more so than any tomato based Indian dish should be. The sambar was excellent, and the chicken biryani was good too. One thing that was quite annoying was that it was only about half full, and they kept running out of plates, dishes, and silverware, but in fairness, it was about 2:00 and they probably had a busy lunch that day. Farv, I do not go to Indian restaurants for wings, chili chicken, wine tastings, happy hour, or kareoke. I go for good Indian food. If they have those other things, then that's just fine, but it doesn't make up for mediocre food. Again, I am in no way affiliated with any Indian restaurant. I encourage people to go try any place...maybe it will suit your palate. Pros: Good sambar Cons: For the most part, same as before. more

Unhealthy Food 1/16/2009

Last night I order Masala Dosa, I must tell everyone who is trying to go there for the first time or visiting again..THINK about it. Reason - it was stale. Specially the coconut chutney was stinking. I had throw it out. Can't understand how could they serve such food which will affect someone's health. Shame! more

Great for trying wine 7/31/2008

I've never eaten Indian food, but have been interested lately in trying out different wine, as I tend to normally stick with what I know. A few friends mentioned that the Curry House now offers $2 glasses of wine on Thursday nights, so I checked it out with them. I have now been several times and have really enjoyed the selection of wine, the atmosphere, and the music (live jazz band on select weeks). And you just can't beat $2 for a full glass of wine. more

Stinking food, please avoid... 7/25/2008

I ordered Gobhi Manchurian, Veg Masala, Malai Kofta, Naan and Rice. Pros: Fast, Quick, Faster than any other place in Richmond Cons: Food not eatable.. unless you can eat lots of salt, cardamom and strange smelling food. more

Wine and Jazz nights Thursdays can't be missed!!! 7/24/2008

The Curry House now offers Wine and Jazz nights on Thursdays. Every Thursday a region is selected and you can get full glasses for $2 each. Every other Thursday (July 24, August 7, August 21) Toot Sweet Jazz Ensemble also plays. The place gets pretty full and its a fun and different alternative to the normal beer drinking options nearby. Apparently, a new chef has been hired and they are working on pairing 'indian tapas'. The crab cakes and somosas are great. Pros: Wine Night Thursdays more

CURRY HOUSE STINKS- Baby POO & CAT URINE 6/25/2008

I was soooo disappointed with this restaurant. One of the dishes looked like baby poo and another smelled like cooked cat. Besides the horrendous food - the service stunk and the place was sooo dirty -- I saw trash just thrown outside on the patio. NOT A GOOD PLACE TO SPEND YOUR MONEY. WAAAY OVER PRICED. I wonder what that curry is covering up. So far -- no problems but then I didn't eat as much as my friend, who wasn't feeling very well the next day. For the same amount of money you can go to a really good place -- Europa, Peking, even Can Can -- and have fun. Shoot the burgers at Capital Ale House makes more sense - you know what you're getting there. Pros: Location is good Cons: Too many to mention more

Not a great place to eat - very bad food and service. 6/18/2008

Me and my colleague had been to this restaurant tonight. We had ordered tadka dal and bhindi curry with two parathas. The order was taken by one of the waiters dressed in total black upon our request to take th order else no one came to the table to take the order. The food came very late. The waiters were only standing in circles and talking with each other. They all appeared to be a part of some italian mob with their black shirts, trousers and hair styles. They never even cared to check on our order. It took 45 mins to get our food. The tadka dhal was cold and had very little quantity (4 spoons max for $11). We then asked for a little more dhal as it was very little quantity. We got two more spoons which came pretty quickly compared to the previous time. We felt like our food was already made and was just left to stand in the kitchen to give a feel for fresh food. The paratha was also cold and the food tasted horrible altogether. No one cared to check on us for food or water. They just turned up to give the check. Please try to avoid this restaurant. It is waste of money and will spoil your entire meal. Pros: interiors Cons: food, service, worthless for the money more

Resturant and Lounge together ( Food and Drinks together .. thank you for listening ) 3/26/2008

The place is huge... I have been going there for 2 years and 90% of the time the food has been great. The price compared to other resturants is affordable, i mean come on its the innsbrook area. They also have a decent wine collection. You have to pick your own wine thou ... Pros: Huge place, Less waiting, good lights, nice bar, good food, Curteous Stadd Cons: Self help, Short Staffed. more

Mediocre Indian fare 2/3/2008

Another Terrible Indian Resturaunt. 10/4/2007

Never ever go to buffet, I had been to this resturaunt for buffet 4 times expecting good food everytime I go there but I am disappointed everytime. They think we customers are fools and they serve stale food I mean yesterday's food today not fresh food. They think we do not know the difference between fresh and stale food. To the owner do not fool your customers who sincerely come there to eat Indian food be responsible for what you are doing not just making money out of us. I found they are little bit better in the dinner but the prices are very high for the entries they serve, which are too much for any Indian resturaunt. Overall I would recommend people to go and try there dinner but not buffet for sure. Pros: Location Cons: Not Fresh Food and Pricey more
