The curry here is good. It is both sweet and and salty and not too bitter like some curries. They have different dishes with curry like chicken or pork cutlet. Parking and finding this location is a little tricky since it is on the inside of a shopping center. more

Throwback to college days 2/13/2009

I ate quite often at Curry House in college and was always impressed by the service, the portions, and the helpful friendly atmospher. This was the one on Sawtelle. I've been to the one in South Bay and remembered they were very good at accomodating our group of 12. This one in Downtown doesn't seem like its service is up to par with the other two.\r \r The food is still good. You won't leave hungry. The prices have gone up, but thats to be expected in LA. I am disappointed that the 3 jars of pickles aren't out on the table anymore, but i'm pacified by the 1 jar of red pickles that they give when requested.\r \r The service was really so-so...they are always packed and sometimes I feel like they're trying to turn you out as soon as possible but then when you need a refill on water or something the servers are no where to be found. Pros: Good Portions, Kid Friendly Cons: Always Crowded, Service is so-so more

Terrific Curry! 11/15/2006

I was first introduced to Japanese curry at this location back in 1998. I was floored. There's a cool bookstore across the way and a little market downstairs to explore. I've been to just about every Curry House in California and I will always have a special place in my heart for this one in Japantown. Keep in mind that their tables are tiny, the service is spotty, and it gets CROWDED during peak times. But you're not here for the atmosphere or the service; you're here for the curry. And they have it. A LOT of it. And it's awesome. Pros: curry Cons: crowds, noise, service more

What happen to this place? 11/28/2005

What is wrong with Curry House these days? The food used to be so on par with the value and service. Ate there recently and it was a whole different experience, the food was not as good as compared to the days of their glory (80s-90s), it's less and more expensive. The service was very unprofessional and very, very slow. They need some serious reorganizing or else they will close their doors one by one like how they did on the Beverly Hills location. I wish I can say it was a ""new"" experience, but new would be too good to classify poor service and value. Pros: n/a Cons: service, value, etc... more

I used to love this place 7/5/2005

but seriously I went a few weeks ago, and man, has the food and quality gone downhill. The curry used to be soo tasty, but now it's merely average. They don't give the various sides anymore either (the pickled stuff on the table). more

Good Food, Poor Service 11/12/2004

Though the food at Curry House is good, service at our last visit was extremely disappointing. A slow, inexperienced waitress without people skills or idea of how to attend to customers made for a very bad dining experience and will probably keep those who were in our party from going to Curry House again or recommending it. more

Always a treat!! 9/24/2004

Been eating here for more than a decade now, always a great smell of the curries brewing. It's a great place to have lunch, dinner, being as a couple, with the family or with a bunch of friends. The value is great and the curry is awesome! The only minus is that the tables are extremely close to each other, making either parties to carry on its own conversations private. Come to think of it, we're due back soon! Pros: curry, value, validated parking more

Really poor service from the manager!!!! 2/9/2004

We went for lunch on a weekday. In the middle of our meal, another friend of ours showed up late because of work, and of course we requested to just add an additional setting. The manager immediately refused and turned him off. We were really upset because he didn't want to seat our friend. One of my friends insisted to have our friend seated as she vacanted her seat out (she quickly finished her lunch). The manager had no choice but to let him seated, also mentioned this was an exception. We were all mad because of his attitude, and the way he pretended to be nice and humble, but kept walking back and forth to stare at us. Turning our friend away might allow the manager to seat a new table sooner, but we were completely upset by this experience, and not going back anymore. more

Best Japanese Curry in Town 8/7/2002

The best Japanese style curry in Los Angeles. With the choice of mild medium, and extra hot curry, it is the best place for a family to go to. If not in the mood for curry, they also have a variety of speghettis. Also try their tofu cheese cake and coffee jelly. It will be a dinner that you will remember. more
