UnSanitary 3/4/2009

I have gone to this place before and thought it was pretty good, but after going for a lunch special i noticed that the employees did not wear gloves when preparing the food. I ordered a Alaskin roll; i had to pick at my sushi because the avocado was almost black, in other words, old! I wass very dissappointed with my order since it was not fresh at all. I had really bad pains in my stomach soon after! I thought this place was pleasant, but after my bad experience dont think i would ever go back Pros: Nice atomosphere Cons: Old food and they wear no gloves more

Cube 63 is the Best Japanese Restaurant in town!! We love the atmosphere when we first get in, u'll feel so peaceful and romance! and I found out it has a awesome garden in the back as well! We enjoy their creative spicy sushi rolls, the sashimi are so fresh!! I love their 'taco wasabi' which I'd never seen in other rest. The workers are so friendly and nice. Eight of us really had a wonderful birthday dinner down there last week. We definately HAVE to recommend this place to all Japanese food lovers!! Cube 63 is really amazing!! good food! good place to hang out! Pros: great food with a very reasonable price, excellent ambiance more

Cube63 is the HOT SPOT!! 3/23/2008

I moved to Brooklyn about a year ago and have been looking for a Sushi resturant with fresh food and a nice, comfy atmosphere. I tried a place in Sheepshead bay and the rainbow roll looked as if it sat in the resturant a week before they served it to me-- I was becoming frustrated! Well, I have found my spot!! My sister and I tried Cube63 on the recommendation of these reviews and I am very happy I went. The atmosphere was very cozy, clean and warm and the staff was very friendly. The food was GREAT! The tuna tartar and volcano roll were the real winners. I am looking forward to going back..this place is definently worth a shot if you are a sushi fan in need of a spot. more

Pretty food - but by no means the BEST 6/17/2007

I admit it, I am addicted to sushi. I need it every week and I love trying new places. Recently, I went to Cube 63, for the first time, around 6.30pm. I was the only guest so I sat at the sushi bar. The Malaysian sushi chef did a very nice job presenting me with a well decorated plate of ok sushi. I.e. I noticed the spicy tuna was already prepared as it was taken from an overchilled tupperware container. The Ikura was slimey. The rice was too sweet. If you only eat salmon and tuna and are happy as long as you get big slivers of fish, this is your spot. But if you enjoy true expert preparation and cherish real freshness, there will be better choices. Pros: friendly staff, reasonably priced, well decorated food Cons: sushi could be fresher more

BEST SUSHI IN BROOKLYN AND MANHATTAN COMBINED! 3/15/2007

This is by far the best sushi I've had in NYC! It is so fresh, their rolls are AMAZING and I just can't say enough about the owners and the service. It's sort of a discreet location (a little below street level on Court @ Baltic) so I don't think enough people know about it, but if you're looking for a GREAT sushi meal, Cube is the place to go! more

There's nothing square about this sushi joint's spiffy decor and multidimensional flavors.

Editorial
  • The Scene
Brooklynites who miss Manhattan's dapper digs and peerless cuisine are cheered by this clone of a popular Lower East Side sushi restaurant. The slightly larger location sacrifices none of the original's mod cool, mixing dark woods, blue walls, and pod-like plastic chairs. Shell-like chandeliers hint at the seafood theme. Neighborhood newbies and old-timers choose from bar seats and well-spaced tables.

    The Food
With its stylish takes on sushi basics, Cube 63 is a welcome respite from the area's mediocre Japanese restaurants. Classic preparations get bold tweaks, like sharp wasabi added to thin-skinned shumai. Sushi highlights include slightly sweet arctic char and sublime, buttery o-toro; while multicolored rolls get arranged into dazzling geometric patterns. Try the Tahiti Roll, a concoction of tempura shrimp, eel, cream cheese, avocado and caviar that's a truly trippy delight. For dessert, try the mochi, green tea or mango ice cream wrapped in springy rice cake.
