TOP NOTCH ! one of my faves ! 11/30/2010

TOP NOTCH ! one of my faves ! Wing night is always crowded. Summer is not so jumpin' since people head to the water bars in LB, but this time of year until May it is a great place on any night. more

NEVER again! 8/16/2009

We are regulars at Croxley Ale establishments. My boyfriend and I visited Croxley Ale's after a day at the beach. We arrived to see a notice indicating ""no sleeveless shirts."" After being asked to comply, we did, and truth be told, we respect this requirement..... Fast forward to when we are leaving----a family- of another race- is accommodated to seating with two members wearing sleeveless shirts. When we questioned the call, the response was ""oh she's (the waitress) getting him a shirt"". BOTTOM LINE- the same rules don't apply for everyone at this establishment. My suggestion: be sure that your bar staff on 8-16 is on board with the restaurant policy because this could be followed up easily in a court of law. Things are often not what they seem~ Pros: Wait staff Cons: Discriminatory practices more

A realistic point of view 1/9/2009

After reading the reviews the place (in some cases) unfairly got, I feel the need to chime in. \r \r First, the only time I ever had a problem with a drink there is when they were getting to the end of a keg... it was promply replaced without question. \r \r Second, the staff... think about it for a min. This place seriously has to have over 500 people in and out (if not more) on a given night (especially when they're doing the wing specials on mon and wed). If you were one of those people that complained about the hostesses, put yourself in their position for a moment. Usually quite attractive young ladies that probably have heard every line in the book thrown at them on a minutely basis... how chipper would you be? Seriously? The only time I've ever seen one of them get ""rude"" is when some drunk fool fell over and took one of the girls down with him. \r \r Next, the food. It's a pub, not an upscale restaurant. Expect pub food. In my opinion probably the BEST pub food I've had this side of London. (and the alehouse burger has got to be the BEST pub burger on the island)\r \r Finally the wait: Theres a reason there are a hundred + people waiting to get seated on any given mon/wed. You're probably there for the same reason. You're gonna wait when a place is this popular so stop your crying, grab a beer and watch some TV or listen to some tunes. Pros: Good Food, Decent Service, Good Crowd Cons: Long waits more

Hot n fresh wings, cold n tasty beers 11/7/2008

Great local place to try out a variety of beers, many of which you won't find anywhere else in the area. Here, I have grown fond of beers I had never heard of before. The wings are crispy, hot and plenty saucy. Usually crowded as all heck. Most nights I go I'm told the wait is in excess of an hour. You're bound to be seated a little before but you'd better not mind standing. You won't get a lot of smiles when greeted but, once seated, the waitstaff is pleasant enough and make capable suggestions. The wait at the bar is usually killer until you go often enough to get to know you. I'd say 2/3 of the time, we end up standing or just grabbing a seat at the bar. That may be annoying to some but I get what I want out of the place so it's not a major complaint of mine. Pros: Nice beverage selection, always fresh wings (though you'll have to be patient to get 'em) Cons: Unfriendly greeters, loooong waits to be seated and get your food more

Great Wings 5/4/2008

Probably one of the best places to get wings on Long Island. Wing nights get a little crowded and you will almost always be told there is a 30-45 minute wait time to be seated. So oh well, just grab a drink at the bar and wait it out. You're almost always seated before the time they give you anyway. The layout is cool, they have a good amount of TVs for the games, food is descent, huge international beer selection, and the atmosphere is pretty chill. I have to admit, the staff could maybe use a little improvement. So if you don't expect to be greeted with big smiles and the friendly hello, you're good to go. Overall, I highly recommend the place and it's one of my favorite places to go to hang out with friends, watch the games, and have some drinks and wings. Pros: Wings, lay out, TVs, etc. Cons: Staff! more

So much fun! 1/21/2008

We had all of our ""office"" parties here when I worked in a small office (the only good one) in Hofstra Law School. We always had about 10 people and took a big booth. I don't know if I'd like it as much by the bar, and the guys never had too much luck picking anyone up, but there are great beers on tap and it's a great atmosphere. Pros: Good beers on tap, good atmosphere more

Skunk Beer, Dull People, Smelly Environment, Pretentious Staff = Don't Bother 3/29/2007

Skunk beer, dirty ,mildewy taps pump out swill tasting beers for drunk men. The part that angers me about this ""ale house"" is that they have a nice selection of decent micro-brews, but they manage to make each and every one of them taste like puddle water. The wait staff and host can be WAY too pretentious for a place like this. Also, all food items ordered on their menu are served with a gleaming coating of grease; by far the greasiest burger I've ever had. If you're a college freshman and looking to drink expensive beer that you don't care how it tastes and gnaw on dried out 10 cent chicken wings then this is your place. Don't plan on meeting any women here; there aren't any. The don't call it Croxley's male house for nothing. Pros: I like the phone booth Cons: Dirty, Smelly, Rude, Boring more

Great! 10/6/2004

Love this place...been going for years now. Best beer selection around, tasty food and service is great. Bartenders are fun and fair. Wing night is always crowded. Summer is not so jumpin' since people head to the water bars in LB, but this time of year until May it is a great place on any night. Highly recommend! Pros: Beer, Food, Service more
