Citysearch coupon comes in handy at Cozy Cafe 5/25/2009

I was in town on a Sunday night with a friend looking to check out hookah places for my birthday and I was looking forward to checking out Cafe Khufu, but when we got there, they were closed. So since I had a coupon to Cozy Cafe, we decided to check it out. It's a pretty typical hookah place; it's small but dark with plush decor and red lighting and a flat-screen tv playing Arabic music videos. It wasn't too busy, so we were seated right away. However, we were seated at the very back right underneath the ventilation system, and it was freezing. Not very cozy for its name, but understandable. They had a pretty interesting menu, with all the typical flavors and drinks you would expect from a moderately upscale hookah place. However, the two things that stuck out for me were the strangely-named "Viagra Hookah" which the "Shock Hookah.' The first used wine instead of water in the hookah vase, and the second apparently used liquor. We ordered a viagra hookah with watermelon shisha, even though my friend was still weirded out by the name. Our mint teas were served quickly, but mine arrived in a leaky teapot, and it was a chore pouring it. I opted to not drink it and instead let it sit prettily on my table. When the hookah arrived, the first thing I noted was the pineapple on top. When I looked around I saw that everyone else had melon or some other type of fresh fruit-halves on top of their hookahs as well. I thought that was kinda cool. Our mouthpieces didnt fit over the hose, and they were pretty opposed to us smoking "unprotected", so they took one of ours and held it over a flame and stuck it on until the melted plastic couldnt come off. I couldn't tell whether our hookah was really filled with wine or not since they used an opaque vase, and I couldnt really taste a difference either. We couldn't really make any heavy smoke clouds or exhale O's since we were right below the fan, but I did get a good buzz after awhile. I'm not sure if it might have been caused by either the supposed wine or the nicotine content of the shisha. I'm used to smoking either herbal or low-nic shisha so that was a bit of a different experience for me. When it came time for the bill, I showed our waiter my coupon but he had no idea what it was. He showed it to the owner, who personally came over to us to thank us for coming and that he hoped to see us again soon. I had gotten the coupon from this website for 10% off our bill, but the owner went a step further and slashed a $45 bill to $30, which is a HUGE DISCOUNT. I think he realized that if I gotten it from here, I must have read all those not-so-great reviews and he was probably trying make a positive impact. He was pretty nice when I asked him about having a party at his place, and although I admit I was skeptical when I first walked in, I didn't have a bad experience there at all. I still want to check out other hookah places around the city before I book a party but I wouldn't rule out the coming back here with friends. Pros: Creative hookah setups, decor Cons: One drink minimum per person, one-hosed hookahs more

Nice place 5/20/2009

It's a nice place to be in, but as usual, the hookah is expensive. They have a nice selection of wines as well. Pros: atmosphere Cons: price more

Nice but..... 3/2/2009

I visited this small spot this past weekend for some fun. When we initially got there, we had to wait but for only like 5 mins. The guy who looked like a bouncer was very nice (you wouldn't of guessed when you first saw him). The party on the first very table right near the entrance left so they sat us down right in front of the door (which I wasn't that happy) but never been here so I wasn't going to be fussy. We had two more friends joining us so the seats were left unoccupied. We got our drinks right away and our hooka (watermelon). Everything was great until this one grease ball worker (big time loser) told us if our friends don't show, they are going to give the seats up to somebody us. Totally understandable as the crowd kept getting bigger and bigger. I couldn't believe the amount of traffic coming in and out of this place! It was a bit annoying since we had the first table, the people kept leaving the door open so my wife and I were freezing a good part of the night. Going back to this grease ball, I told him to give my friends another 5 mins. So after, 15 or 20 mins, they showed up and sat with us. Everything was cool again until grease ball was going to kick us out unless we ordered two more hookahs. We were given our bill but we weren't done. They told us it was a misunderstanding so I ordered another hookah anyways (told us after 1/2 hour, hookah was no good and had to get a new one). I thought that was false because at the hookah bar me and my wife usually go to, we had the same hookah the whole night and here we are for an hour and a half and they tellin us to buy another hookah?? Seems like a scam. So going back to this grease ball, he was going to kick out another party. I don't know what the hell was wrong with this guy! If I was to go back, which most likely I won't is because of this "grease ball"!! Can't find a better word to describe him. Overall, good experience, but it only takes one person to ruin it. Pros: Great Service, good atmosphere Cons: One worker was rude and annoying more

Best Hookah Longue in town 3/1/2009

I love Cozy. The service is always excellent, everyone is always friendly and no matter what day you go be prepared to have a good time. I've met many great new people here who are now friends of mine. They only accept cash but don't worry because they have an ATM machine. The music is always diverse and it's loads of fun to get up and shake your thing with the belly dancer. Pros: Great Service Cons: None more

Masters in customer service 2/9/2009

We went to this bar on Saturday and i sat in the back yard and the service was amazing. First of all we walked in this place and the bouncer at the door which was a nice guy got me a seat ASAP. Eventhough me and my friends were outdoor the waiter (bawer) in the back yard was adorable and made us feel welcome. He made funny comments and treated us with respect. The service was great and we had the Knock Me Out hookah and it was amazing. the shakes in this place were also great. When you go to this place ask for Bawer and he would take care of you. Best Place i have been to in a long time Pros: Nice People Cons: packed more

Hookah Here 12/20/2008

This hookah Bar offers nice hookahs accompanied by great music and friendly people. It's not too crowded and quite spacious inside. I would recommend it to a friend. more

dynamyc atmosphere 11/30/2008

We went there last Saturday for the first time and were quite impressed with the service. My friends and I prefer crowded places to hangout, so it was definitely a good choice. For those of you who don't like crowded places they have a beautiful heated backyard for chilly evenings. The staff was very friendly. The DJ even played our favorite songs from our ipod. If you're there ask for TITO, he's the nicest. We were invited to come back on a weekday for a free hookah. Weekdays there are considered to be Monday through Thursday. Pros: good service atmosphere Cons: for big groups reservations are suggested more

Place=good, Music=? 7/29/2008

this saturday was the first time i went to this place and i was amazed. The people were friendly and the music was Ok. I enjoyed the music but there was a little bit to much Arabic music. Once you asked the DJ for some R&B he would say yes but never put it. besides the DJ everything else was pretty interestingand new. There was alot of hot girls for those single guys and alot of guys for those single girl. i guarantee that if you come here you would meet that special someone. great place Pros: Lots of people Cons: same music more

Fantastic Customer Service 7/29/2008

Me and my friends went here on friday and we had a astonishing time. The hookahs were superior and the customer service was perfect. We asked for our favorite waiter (baur) but he was on vacation so this other waiter named John took care of us, he was also an excellent host. the time we had here was first class. If i were to discribe this place with one word it would be "quality." I encourage people to attend this lounge. Pros: Everything good Cons: none more

Wonderful 4/3/2008

i have been to almost all the hookah bars in the lower east side and without a doubt this is the best one. first of all, they have the best tasting hookahs around and the atomsphere is something fresh and comfortable. I have been to this place twice and each time i go it gets better and better. its a place where u can take ur friends and or your girlfriend. they do ask for IDs, if u want beer which is good because you dont have drunk teenagers rolling around you. the music is nice and the plasma TV on the walls showing music videos are outstanding. P.S if you go to this place try the Viagra hookah which is made in a pineapple or try the Ali special you will not regret it. Pros: Atmosphere and hookah Cons: no credit cards accepted more

Best chilled place in the city 3/27/2008

My friend and I found this place randomly on line and were not sure what to expect. But I can say that this place truly lives up to its name of being cozy. The atmosphere was so relaxed with the nice red couches and music from all over the world, which leaves no time to feel bored with what you are hearing. To top it off the manager and the workers were so cool and treated us really well, like a customer should be treated. Better than anywhere else I have been. This is definitely a new chill spot for us and we will be returning on the regular. Thanks for everything Sherif, including the wine. more

BEST Hookah spot - Intimate & Comfortable!! 3/22/2008

I've been a couple of times and this is a great place. I like that it is a true hookah bar in the sense that they admit as many as will be be seated and try not to let the place overcrowd. Music is always great, the owner & all the staff are really nice & friendly. For weekends, I recommend reserving a table and getting there before 12 since they always fill up. Weekdays it's intimate enough for a romantic night or just a close group of friends. FYI, it's 18 & over but don't expect to be served unless you have ID, no matter how "old you really are or look". They're friendly but run a legit business! My new favorite place!! My tip - the watermelon or cherry hookah are the best!! Pros: Service, Ambience, Location (off the beaten path), Comfortable seating Cons: They only serve beer (but a great selection) & a limited wine selection more

Can't wait to go back! 2/20/2008

My friends and I went to the Cozy Cafe this week. We had a bit of trouble finding it (as the sign is pretty small), but once we got in we were seated right away (they actually let us chose where we wanted to sit). It's a relatively small place lit mostly by candle, and the tv's on the wall's (playing everything from jay-z to Egyptian music). I wouldn't recommend going here if you are looking for a filling dinner. They have a small food menu (salads, chicken wraps ect), lots of drinks. Plus about 70 hookah flavors. The food took a considerable time to come out, but I think they do it so they don't rush you with the hookahs. They were very attentive with clearing our plates and coming over to change the coals in the hookah. They gave us a free platter of desserts, and upgraded our second hookah to their special "viagra" hookah (pineapple holding the tobacco on top) for free. The guys were very friendly, offering to take pictures for us. It was very mellow and I had a great experience, but I have a feeling it could get pretty hectic on the weekends since there is limited seating. They recommended calling if you have a large group so they could save a section for you. I would highly recommend going.. ps. their apple flavor hookah is great!! Pros: Long list of hookah flavors, relaxing atmosphere Cons: none more
