Safe and friendly; a good learning environment 2/10/2012

We've only been at this CH a week, but I felt compelled to write a review based on all the negative ratings with google. We came from the Toepperwein location and were very disappointed with the extremely high teacher turnover there. (A lice incident and a classroom bully didn't help either, but this can happen at ANY daycare.) Although smaller than the Toepperwein location, this facility seems to be clean, the teachers seem very friendly, and my child is served what is on the menu for that day. Any time a substitution has to be made, it is posted at least a day in advance. The only negative thing I can comment on is the parking and the high tuition - but you get what you pay for. This location came highly recommended by my child's occupational therapist whose own daughter is enrolled in the toddler class. She indicated that she has never seen a big problem with teacher turnover and my son's 2 yr old teacher has been there 8 years. My son seems very happy (no longer crying every time I pick him up as he was at the other location.) We chose CH b/c they really are one of the best daycares available in San Antonio -we've looked, read the reviews, checked out the state cite, and heard from other parents. Even my son's speech therapist advised that CH has one of the best student to teacher ratios and that she would advise going with another CH since we were unhappy with the Toepperwein location. They follow a curriculum and give you a daily report to let you know what your child did that day. I especially appreciate that they allow my son's speech therapist, occupational therapist, and early intervention specialist to work with my child in the class (some daycares don't allow that - I guess they are afraid the provider might witness something). This allows my son, who has never even been with a sitter much less in a daycare and who has a speech delay, to be better integrated into the class and for the therapist to help him develop social skills. And with all of my son's providers (as well as the providers of another child in his class) coming in at all times and other parents picking up and dropping off at all times, I feel certain that my child's safety and the safety of any other child there is not in jeopardy. Perhaps the person who made these comments was a disgruntled employee. That sort of thing cannot go on unnoticed. If anything changes, I'll be back to write another review! more

Wonderful Learning Enviornment!! 10/22/2009

This is the best child care center I have seen in SA. My daughter had been to 3 daycares until we came across Country Home. She has been there for over a year now and I could not be happier. She loves the teachers there and she is learning letters, sounds and even spanish! The teachers there follow a curriculum where they involve all kinds of tactile learning to get a concept across. My daughter always comes home with stories about what they did today at school. I just enrolled my 4 month old son in CH about two weeks ago as well. They are wonderful in the infant room too, already getting him on a schedule. I have nothing but good things to say about this Country Home. I would definitely recommend it. Pros: friendly teachers, clean, excellent attention to the kids Cons: expensive more

Worst Day Care experiene EVER! Stay away! 1/22/2008

Currently this place is showing up as 4 stars and the only explanation I can think of is that the day care must be paying CitySearch for this erroneous rating. This is by far the worst one we have ever been to and my daughter has been to a couple of daycares by now. The entire staff is incompetent and rude, director, teachers, just about everyone, however we have met a few really nice teachers that subbed for a few days. When we were looking for daycares, this was the only one available that had any openings. The ones that we wanted were all booked solid for months. This place is dirty, inside and out, with a distinct odor that my daughter reeks of when she gets home. A quick bath fixes that though. They do not have dedicated parking spaces for parents so you will rush to find the first available parking on the street that you can find. We are used to this. When you walk in, you are lucky if the staff looks up to greet you or your child, or say hello. During the day, diaper changes occur while kids are standing up bent forward. The food menu that is posted is not necessarily what is served. This is a problem for us as our daughter has food allergies and fools us into thinking she can have lunch that she can eat. She has fallen in the playground with a bloody nose as a result and even bitten by the kids there all ever without any sort of incident report. We have also had incidents where the heat went out. Many kids are constant sick and due to this, my daughter has been the most sick here than ever before. She has had a constant runny nose since she has been there with occasional fevers to fight infections. None of the equipment is ever sterilized. But it gets better. If you choose to go here, your child may also come down with lice, something my daughter caught from another child. Then you go through the hassle of medications, deep bath, and constant supervision. Pros: They have openings. Cons: Staff, Cleanliness, Management more
