The desk staff need lessons in both customer service and social skills. They neither seem to know what's going on nor care. I like to tan occasionally, but this is not a good place for it. I prefer to tan for only 5 minutes, but despite my requests, they turn the timer on the maximum time and let it run. The 1st time they burned me, I assumed it was an honest mistake. The 2nd time they burned me, I knew I had to be much more cautious. I now have to take a watch into the booth because despite my complaints, they still can't figure out how to set the timer on the number 5. I also have to clean the booth beforehand. The staff won't take responsibility for the cleaning, instead asking members to clean the booth when they're finished. Guess what? They don't do it. Meanwhile, there is a very nice custodian that I see in the women's center regularly, yet one of the elliptical machines has had the same piece of gum stuck on it for months. Also, most gyms across the country have cleaning stations on the workout floor that house a bottle of cleaning spray and a cleaning towel. Not at Cornerstone. Once a person has used a piece of equipment, he/she just gets up and walks away, leaving a pool of sweat and God only knows what else behind. Then the next person comes along and does the same thing. It's so disgusting that I've given up on using the weight machines altogether. I just stick with the cardio equipment and free weights to limit direct contact to my hands (and carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with me). Keep in mind that the clientele is as much of the problem as the staff, as it seems the clientele have no sanitation standards of their own. They don't notice when they're rolling around in a stranger's bodily fluids. Of course, they're very busy yapping away mindlessly on their cell phones. By the way, there's a sign of rules, one of which is for no cell phones, but I guess the members can't read either. Unfortunately, I hear this is about as good as it gets in this area. more

Go across the street to 600+ ...trust me! 11/13/2007

Okay first of all I just moved back to the valley from finishing college in Austin. I was use to the friendly staff at 24 hour fitness or just the friendly Austin people in general. Okay first time I go in I go in I ask some really young unfriendly lady (girl) if there is anyone who could show me around...you know the usual procedure a gym provides their first time customers. She rudely tells me if you want you can go look around upstairs, but if you want help with the machines you'll have to hire a trainer. As I stand around like a dumba*s, she never looks nor talks to me again. So at this point i'm irate that i HAVE to leave, I've never been there I don't know what is what or what is where, I have no idea of how the system in this place works. So after two weeks I decided to hire a traniner, I sign up for 3 times a week for 3 months package some guy who spoke half english half spanish sold me (PICK A LANGUAGE I SPEAK BOTH...sorry pet peeve of mine). So I go in, day one and I am beyond sore, I've been sore before but it was to the point where I couldn't straighten my left arm. Even though I told this guy "hey buddy haven't worked out the 4 years I was in college take it easy no?" and you know what he tells me...I kid you not, the old cliche "no pain no gain" OMG! how cheesey and annoying. Annoyed as I am with my new trainer, I show up to our next appointment as I see that he's 10, now 20, now 30 minutes pass and no show of trainer. I step off my cardio machine and go downstairs to ask if he was even there. Front desk girl tells me "oh i don't know if he had you in his book". I explain to her that I talk to that guy (i pointed to the guy who sold me on the training) and she responds with "oh that's just a sales rep he just sells stuff (she said the word STUFF i kid you not) your trainer has to have you in his book. Shouldn't the sales rep guy who sells "stuff" have some sort of system with their trianers??? Case in point I left my number and trainer never called back that day. I called today cause we're supposed to meet tomorrow, but what do you know never called back. So do yourself a favor for about the same price you can drive across the street to 600+ which is brand new, more zen, friendly staff, more organized and has way more to offer and I'm sure you'll get better results than I have. Hmm, now I must find a way to get out of this ironclad contract I'm stuck with. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Trust me go across the street~ more

Cornerstone Fitness Center. 4/11/2006

The "Cornerstone Fitness Center" is the nice gym in the Edinbug/McAllen area. The equipment is all very modern and up-to-date. The fitness center is relatively brand new. "Cornerstone Fitness Center" has excellent amenities such as a supplement store and excellent changing rooms. The trainers are all very qualified and willing to provide excellent service. The only negative aspect of "Cornerstone Fitness Center" is the long contracts you must sign in order to get a good price on the membership. more

Work Out 8/5/2005

My friend and I are members of the Cornerstone Gym. I take part in the aerobics and body pump while my friend enjoys the weight machines and the treadmill. For a small monthly charge we are free to use any of the facilities available to us. It is also closeby to our place of work and residence. We both truly enjoy it. more
