Copelands is closing 7-30-07 and.. 7/24/2007

even though they have their reasons.I think the main reason is the bad customer service. When i arrived there the young lady behind the counter was to busy dancing and flirting with her co-worker to take my order. Then when she finally served me she had a bad attitude. The food was a letdown, the mac and cheese was very bland. The ribs and cornbread were pretty good though. Maybe Copelands was better years ago,but i found the place to be drab and depressing. Pros: So so food Cons: Bad service more

REAL soul food at great prices 5/13/2007

YUMMM! Although I find harlem severely lacking in food options (compared to my hometown brooklyn), Copelands consistently saves the day. For some odd reason, I feel like the food in the cafetaria section on the left entrance is way better than the food in the sit down part on the right side. I get take out 90 percent of the time and the guys that serve the food are very generous. You get two sides and a choice of bread with your meal. The potato salad is outstanding, with just the right amount of relish and vinegar. the white rice is always perfectly cooked and they add on any kind of gravy you want. the baked chicken is by far my favorite, even the white meat is juicy and well-seasoned. when i spend a few days at my honey's house uptown, i always make a stop at copelands. IT BREAKS MY HEART THAT COPELANDS IS GONE...THEY COULDN'T AFFORD THE RENT ANYMORE....I GUESS NOW THAT "STARBUCKS" AND "NY SPORTS" IS ON 145TH, AUTHENTIC PLACES ARE JUST NOT NEEDED ANYMORE. IT'S HILARIOUSLY WRONG THAT BUSINESSES ARE OEPNING THAT ARE NOT EVEN USED BY THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE AREA AND ARE NOW BEING PRICED OUT OF IT WHILE THE TRADITIONAL PLACES CLOSE DOWN....DAMN GENTRIFICATION!!!! Pros: Not a tourist trap...good prices, great portions Cons: sometimes slow service...try take out from the cafeteria side more

Terrible customer service. 11/28/2006

I had a terrible experience there on Thanksgiving. My daughter spent quite a bit of money to take us there and they didn't have corn bread, apple cider. The peach cobbler tasted like it came out of a can. One of my daughters thought the turkey was canned. It arrived without stuffing which I had to ask for. I think the ham was canned and it was too sweet. It was a very big let down from what I expect at Copeland's. The salmon was very tasty. And so were the collards. My other daughter was so disappointed by the "short ribs of beef." They turned out to be roast beef. And the gentleman who claimed he was the manager yelled at the couple sitting next to us when they complained about the small portion size. They felt they were not getting their money's worth and he hollered at them. I was embarrassed for them. They got corn bread but the waiter told me three times that there was no corn bread when I requested it. And we went to the first seating. There was a second seating at 7 p.m.! Copelands has a reputation. But it was shattered on Thanksgiving! And that manager was abominable. The kids sometimes take me there for my birthday in December. But we won't be going back. What a let down. Pros: It's in my neighborhood. It's inexpensive. Good collard greens. Cons: Very slow service, nasty management. Tattered tablecloths and dead flowers on table. more

Real southern cooking!!! 10/3/2006

Copeland's has been around since I was in Junior high in Harlem. Alot of people that visit New York do not know about this resturant!! I must tell you if you really want good soul food that is the place to go!! Between Spoonbread too resturant on 110 St. & one on 135st in Harlem I do not know which is better because they both have REAL southern food. This resturant has that southern hospitality. Trust me you will be happy!! Pros: Great food, polite sothern hospitality Cons: lonng line, eager people who know good sothern food!! more
