YUMMM! Although I find harlem severely lacking in food options (compared to my hometown brooklyn), Copelands consistently saves the day. For some odd reason, I feel like the food in the cafetaria section on the left entrance is way better than the food in the sit down part on the right side. I get take out 90 percent of the time and the guys that serve the food are very generous. You get two sides and a choice of bread with your meal. The potato salad is outstanding, with just the right amount of relish and vinegar. the white rice is always perfectly cooked and they add on any kind of gravy you want. the baked chicken is by far my favorite, even the white meat is juicy and well-seasoned. when i spend a few days at my honey's house uptown, i always make a stop at copelands.
IT BREAKS MY HEART THAT COPELANDS IS GONE...THEY COULDN'T AFFORD THE RENT ANYMORE....I GUESS NOW THAT "STARBUCKS" AND "NY SPORTS" IS ON 145TH, AUTHENTIC PLACES ARE JUST NOT NEEDED ANYMORE. IT'S HILARIOUSLY WRONG THAT BUSINESSES ARE OEPNING THAT ARE NOT EVEN USED BY THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE AREA AND ARE NOW BEING PRICED OUT OF IT WHILE THE TRADITIONAL PLACES CLOSE DOWN....DAMN GENTRIFICATION!!!!
Pros: Not a tourist trap...good prices, great portions
Cons: sometimes slow service...try take out from the cafeteria side
