Cool Theatre 1/13/2006

The movies at the Coolidge Corner Theatre are an ecclectic mix of the best of the best. They often show art films or special screenings of older movies. Of note are their midnight movies which occur on Friday and Saturday nights--- which are often related movies with some sort of a theme. They are creative in their presentations and it's truly enjoyable to go to the movies here. Prices here are lower than area chain theatres. Often times, movies that run in series are a "buy one, stay for all" ticket that does not top $7. A rare value for the Boston area. more

A Real Movie Jewel! 8/20/2005

When you move out of the Boston nexus you can appreciate this theater even more. The Coolidge Corner Theatre is so unique and special (and those characteristics do not always translate well to homogenized suburbia.) When I see at the schedule of movies and other theater offerings, I am often saddened that I no longer live close enough to take advantage of this wonderful jewel in Brookline and have to make do with lesser art cinemas and rentals to get my independent film fix. Take advantage of this wonderful theater! more

Great Independent Theatre 8/19/2005

The Coolidge Corner Theater is awesome because they play independent films and they have a fun crew working there. I recently saw March of the Penguins there and had a really fun experience. The movie theaters are small but they are very artistics and it is always easy to see the screen. They also have wild events here, I would check the website to see what's going on this month. more

Beautiful space, fine film 8/17/2005

This is a treasure. The Coolidge Corner theater is right in the middle of Brookline, and consists of a recently renovated art-deco cinema. There is a small upstairs screening room, a mini theater and then a rather large well-appointed traditional theater space that will take you back to the 1930's. The cinema shows a mixture of recent and older fare, but not first run multiplex stuff. They have film festivals of various kinds (animation, Jewish, Women's, etc). The theater is across the street from a cafe and sits amidst a lot of nice restaurants so this is prime date territory. more

The Best Little Theatre... Lots of Character! 8/17/2005

The Coolidge Corner Theatre is such a treasure to this city! I had never been to the theater for a movie before (since I live in a different part of the city) and learned that a favorite author and screenwriter of mine was coming to town and would be presenting his new book at this theater. I was so excited! I was delighted when I got to the theatre and saw all its charm. This place adds so much to the Coolidge Corner neighborhood! I was really excited that the people running this theater really seem to "get it". They appreciate that independence in film is important and they really understand good art. It was such a breath of fresh air! :) I am looking forward to attending many more events here in the future! more

Puts the 'Cool' in Coolidge Corner 8/17/2005

What comes to mind when you think of Coolidge Corner? Besides the theater there aren't really any landmarks or significant stores or shops, which makes Coolidge Corner Theater all the more important to the area. Don't be mistaken. The big blockbusters do not usually make it to the theater, given its limited seating and just two screens. No, Coolidge Corner Theater targets a different crowd. Often it is independent films gracing the screen at Coolidge. Other times it is Japanese animated films such as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. Finally, there are cult classics that find their way to the screen as midnight or weekend showings. Coolidge Corner Theater is definitely unique, but it doesn't excuse the crampedness. more

So much better than Lowes 8/16/2005

Huge cineplexes are popping up everywhere, but the Coolidge corner theater is a throwback to older times. Granted you might be well aware of that if you find one of the seats with little cushioning left in it, but your trip will be well worth it. The movies showing there are always top notch, and include many artistic or independent films that don't make it to the main stream theaters. The custom lead in to all movies is worth the trip alone - it's much better than the singing popcorn you'll find at other theaters! more

Midnight Movies! 8/2/2005

I recently discovered the Coolidge Corner Theater. I've been there a few times since to see a variety of independent films. Part of the Independent Film Festival of Boston happened there. One of my guilty pleasures is the midnight movies they show. I've been to two of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Sing-a-longs. They have been trying to make it the sort of thing that happens regularly like the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The refreshments are very reasonably priced and the seats are comfortable. The look of the inside of the theater is more old fashioned compared with the generic megaplexes of today. more

Great films! Great membership benefits! 7/21/2005

The Coolidige Corner Theater is a great little independent movie house, which shows fantastic indy and foreign films. It is Boston's only non-profit movie house, and because of that you can become a member of the theater for great bonuses. As a member you can get invites to special screenings, and discounts at local businesses. The films they show are just super. Some are obscure, some are more mainstream, and some are quite political. It's a great place to bring a date! more

Coolidge Corner Theater 7/19/2005

A visit to the Coolidge Corner Theatre takes you back to the good old days. The classic, old-fashioned movie theatre, complete with a heavy red curtain, reminds of you of the times when Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn ruled the screen. This Brookline beauty is the home of independent movies, film festivals, and the ever-popular midnight movies on Saturday nights. It's definitely worth a visit! more
