Love this theater 8/11/2007

I enjoy the art house type theaters without the stadium seats and ten theaters. No teenagers lumbering outside yelling and chattering incessantly on their cellphones. This is art house and independent film viewing. more

This place was great when I moved to Raleigh years ago. It has since been on a steady decline. Saturday night I noticed cob webs on the lights. Not just little cob webs, but huge cob webs. It looks like they have decorated for Halloween! overall nice area, parking could be better, make sure you arrive with plenty of time before show begins because parking at peak times is a hassel. more

Join the Colony 8/2/2005

Colony Theaters, sister cinema to Rialto Theater, is just as fine a place to see a film. With two screens, they have a similar focus (independent, foreign, documentary) and twice as many screens to get the job done. The snack bar has almost exactly the same offerings as the Rialto (bottle and fountain sodas, candy and popcorn, beer and wine) and attracts a similar crowd. The theaters themselves are specimens from another time: earth-toned shag carpeting on the walls, and projection booths occupied by an actual projectionist. The seats are comfortable and the screens are big and clean. This is truly a great theater. One word of warning: bring cash, since the don’t take credit/debit cards and there are no readily available ATMs. more

Bolding going where no theater has gone before... 6/20/2005

The colony will often show the movies that no one else will. I've seen several controversial political films at the colony, as well as several small release independent films. For those old enough you can also enjoty an adul beverage while you watch your film, which is always a bonus. more
