College Manor

When one enters College Manor it seems lovely and people are engaged. But it depends on their capabilities. For people like my husband who has had Alzheimer's symptoms and has dementia it is a different world. The FOURTH FLOOR is the opposite. Bare and lifeless. If you call their huge TV life then you will be happy because that is what the place provides. My husband had his brand new, still-in-the-box warm and lovely slippers stolen before he even wore them. You are lucky to get three square meals there. The rooms have dirty windows. If you have to relieve your self thank God for Depends. You will have to live in your excrement. And who doesn't smoke there. They must sell the cigs for a dime a pack. I took my husband a plastic container with cut fruit from Giant. The container was still on the table days later. My husband was filthy and cold. His dirty sweater in a basket full of dirty clothes. He fell on the floor and they swear they know when it happened. So who cares about an old man who falls on their wooden floor. You might be told about it a day later, if you are lucky. There was a table of food under food covers in the hallway but obviously not for my husband. Hours later he finally got food. I had taken a large Hershey bar with almonds and left half on the table and it was gone a day later. There was no way my husband could have reached it. How a place like this isn't warned about it's beyond me. more

I cannot express enough thankfulness that we were able to have our 92 year father at College Manor in his last years. The staff have truly created a HOME environment for their residents. Instead of feeling like you are in building with endless corridors of doors you feel like you are at home with you own bedroom and bathroom but a family setting for living room, family room, rec and TV rooms, and plenty of activities to keep the resident happy. We were in weekly communication with the Administrator and felt like I knew everyone of the staff personally and knew that they had a genuine interest and love for the residents they serve. The head nurse was always on top of necessary medications and refills and residents health needs. The meals are home cooked everyday and delicious. They would have field trips and weekly Going Out for Lunch adventures. Like I said I just can't say enough but better yet go see for yourself and you will know. more
