Editorial review from Citysearch 5/26/2013

**BEWARE**:\r \r i've been a customer at this store for over a decade, but after an incident last month with the owner, alex grinshpun, i find myself with little choice but to bring him to small claims court.\r \r i brought in glasses, which i had purchased at the store, to be fixed, after they broke (my fault). the glasses were then shipped to the manufacturer in california. several weeks later, i came in to pick up the glasses (they were ready much sooner - again, not the store's fault for the delay) , only to find that they were damaged. \r \r ""did you use glue on these,?"" asked alex. of course i didn't - and wouldn't - use glue to repair $500 glasses; besides, the damage had nothing to do with the lens - the side part of the glasses was broken. alex soon realized that what he thought was glue was actually a chip, and asked me if i had chipped them. \r \r absolutely not. and here is where his sparkling customer service came into play: he refused to take responsibility for the chip, claiming, ""i personally feel this happened when the glasses were damaged."" i explained that his ""feeling"" doesn't change the facts: when the glasses were brought in, the lenses were not damaged. he was unwilling to discuss the issue with the manufacturer, repeatedly telling me, ""i know this company, and they're not going to do anything."" he also said that, if they had damaged the lens while fixing another part of the glasses, then it was not their responsibility. and yet it's not his responsibility?\r \r bottom line is: while the doctor at this store is excellent, the owner is a thief. i would think twice before visiting this location.\r \r **BEWARE** more

Really nice people 3/25/2011

Simone is really helpful and friendly. My girlfriend and I spent a long time pondering frames, and no one rushed us or seemed impatient. more

Went to the Cohen's at 5 Greenwich Pl . - The staff could not have been nicer - The Doctor was wonderful. - The atmosphere was very pleasant and everyone seemed very knowledgable. I've read of some very unfavorable experiences with some of the Cohen's franchises, but I highly recomend this location. You will be very satisfied with the service. Pros: The wonderful Staff Cons: Nothing Negative to comment on. more

worst optic 12/14/2007

\r The manager is this place is terrible. First he sell me glasses that I can't use!\r And He doesn't want to return my money.\r Finally, I went back and start screaming in from of everybody and then he reacted.\r But he still wanted to give me a bad deal!.\r Like if I was not realizing it.\r So the third time , after saying I was going to dispute the charge, he give a deal...But after 4 moth the glasses look terrible!\r And he also said, ""you can't dispute it, in your receive it says in small print ""no return""!!!\r NEVER, NEVER, go to this place. Cons: a lot more

Excellent, but be careful about using any other Cohens Optical. 10/21/2007

These people are great. They give very quick and detailed service. They will fix a problem if you return with one. They are very honest and, at least some years ago, were giving free eye exams. Do not confuse them with the Cohens Optical that was on 14th Street near 5th Ave. Those people are very dishonest. They tried to sell plastic lenses to me claiming that they were Zeiss. It took months of fighting to get a refund. All Cohens Optical Stores are not equal. The store on 5 Greenwich is fantastic. Stick with them. more

Great customer service 2/6/2007

I came in just before closing and they helped me just like I was the first customer of the morning. They helped me find frames, the right lens coatings and got me my glasses late the next day. They were very professional and helpful even when I walked in just as they were closing. more
