Best

A colleague and I wanted to go someplace nice after a rough day. We made the right choice. The service and food were impeccable. The Martini's were enormous! The view was brea...

Worst

Never tought I would do this! Not one to complain! Their Service is the WORST! 5 of us went for a friends B-day, sat down quick, after that down hill! No one came to the table ...

A MUST GO!! 1/3/2007

Ok I'll admit I wrote the review below about the restaurant not having good service but I am telling you what I went back last night and it has completely revamped itself in mhy eyes. I'm talking BIG TIME! They have linens, flowers, candlelight, cool glasses (I know...goofy to mention but I just really liked the glasses..I got this ""fresh fruit puree"" martini and it came in this really cool glass....you gotta see it to know what I'm talking about)...but I'm talking they did the works to this place! AND the service has gone from horrible to great...I mean truly great service. I just really had such a nice time. The food was really good too...get a steak...their steaks are the best in Pittsburgh. I am a born again believer in this place...it was a super experience and glad to see the changes. Will be back soon...like maybe tomorrow ;>). Thank you new management! Pros: Food, service, view, ambience Cons: nothing more

Best Steakhouse in the East!! 10/11/2006

I had a group of tewnty friends that went up to the Saloon for dinner for steaks, seafood and good wine and our expectations were met and exceeded! The view is breathtaking. This view is unlike any other because you are sitting right on the point. The steaks were melt in your mouth excellent and the lobster ravioli got rave reviews from everyone that ate them. The wine list was not too extensive, but very well selected. The price was very reasonable considering at any other steakhouse you do not get that good of a steak and it is usually a la cart. There was no extra charge for your salads or vegetables or potato. Truly the best kept secret in the city! Pros: Gret food, breath taking view, and personal service. Cons: Dining room could be spruced up a bit. more

Horrible Service-Don't Waste Your Time 8/14/2006

Please, please, did I say ""Please"", do not waste your time with this horribily overpriced abomination of a restaurant. I was here on a corporate account, which means I was not even personally paying for the meal, and it was the worst experience (and I waited tables for eight years) that I have ever had at a restaurant. The view is great but please, for $25 an average entree, you get served in plastic red, coca cola cups and the worst service I have ever experienced. Not only did we wait 25 minutes for horribly made drinks, but the service was hands down the most horrible to date-please don't waste your precious time at this overpriced failure of a restaurant. more

Good food, good service, and a killer view. 4/3/2006

Very reasonable prices. Excellent view, you can enjoy mt. wash without feeling like you are on your way to prom. more

Best view in the world 1/7/2006

... and if you think that means the food doesn't matter? You're wrong. We had Phili Steak & Reuben Sandwiches. Good value and big servings which required doggie bags. Menu had a good selection which should suit any taste or budget. A good selection of local beers too. We chose Iron City. Our attendant had great local knowledge, was friendly and helpful ... even washed out our bottles so I could bring them back to New Zealand. Pros: View, Value more

Good food - Great View 7/13/2005

This definitely seems to be the cheapest of the Mt. Washington options, but it wasn't that cheap. The food is a bit overpriced (you are definitely paying a premium for the view), but was still very good. The view was definitely amazing, so it is worth at least one visit if you can get an outside table. The inside seemed very boring to me and reminded me of the dining room of a cheap roadside hotel... very institutional and boring. My girlfriend had a salad because she wanted to ""go healthy."" She loved the salad, but it wasn't healthy as it was covered with cheese and fries. The hummus was very tasty and not too oily or too gritty. Pros: View, View, Food Cons: Inside design, Price more

outstanding! 6/2/2005

If you haven't been to the Grandview Saloon yet, RUN, don't walk! If you can, sit outside; the gorgeous view should be admired while eating the amazing food. And the food is amazing. My husband and I had the Mezze Platter for an appetizer, it was just heavenly! I tried the veggie pita for lunch; I couldn't eat it all, but I wanted to so badly! He had a crab cake sandwich and didn't speak while he ate; that's his way of saying ""damn this is good"". We went for dinner another night, and while the restaurant was busier, the service didn't suffer. For dinner I had the Ahi Tuna, cooked medium. It was excellent!! My husband had the special - a strip steak stuffed with a mushroom duxelle, topped with a crab/sherry cream sauce. The young chef who created this is an up-and-comer; look out for him!! Pros: great food, great view, great service Cons: none! more

What A Change!! 5/19/2005

Friends of mine had recommended that my husband and I check out the Grandview because they got a new chef since the last time we were up there (about a year ago). Boy were we impressed! The food use to be mediocre...NO MORE of that...this new chef is great!! I got what the chef's ""special of the evening"" was, baked stuff shrimp with crab stuffing, and my hubby ordered the most mouth-watering medium rare filet that was done PERFECTLY (a frequent complaint of his is that he can never get a good steak done right...NO MORE OF THAT). I drove him crazy all night because I kept asking for a bite. The view was spectacular (a window seat is a must) and our server was friendly and bubbly, but didn't intrude too much. Only con...hmm....that we have to wait until next weekend to go back! Pros: Food, View, Service Cons: waiting to go back more

Great view for an inexpensive evening 5/2/2005

Grandview Saloon offers an inexpensive way to experience a good meal with a spectacular view. While the food was average (nothing you wouldn't find at a T.G.I. Friday's), the view creates a fun and exciting atmosphere in which to eat. Dining on Grandview Avenue no longer has to burn holes in your pockets! And you can bring your kids too! The perfect time to go is at sunset. You'll get to see the city during the day and at night (The lights look great). Pros: Inexpensive, Great view, Family atmosphere Cons: Average food more

Very impressed! 5/1/2005

I haven't tried the Saloon out for over a year, but I am glad I did. The food was to die for, and the ambience was as breathtaking as I remembered. The bar prices were a little above average but there service and outside seating made up for it. Overall, a really fun atmosphere with beautiful food and view. No need to get dressed up for a nice night. Pros: Inlcine next door, Excellent food, view Cons: paying for the view more

well below average 3/15/2005

the ONLY thing the grandview saloon has going for it is the view, ask the waiters. as we were sitting there we heard someone who i would assume was management or an owner tell our waiter the only people who come to the grandview to eat are people from out of town, and, they only come for the view! it doesn't matter what the service (which was extremely poor!) was like. yes, he actually said that! we also had a valid gift certificate they would not except! my advice, stay away! Pros: view Cons: service, price, decor more

WOW - What A Joke! 9/26/2004

Never tought I would do this! Not one to complain! Their Service is the WORST! 5 of us went for a friends B-day, sat down quick, after that down hill! No one came to the table for 45 min! when we did place our order, 20 min later we got our water! then they informed us they ran out of chicken fingers! Our orders came out 45 min later, 3 people got their food 2 didn't! The waitress said they were being made so rudely that my boyfried got up to find a manager, there was none? 15 min later the second wave came, we asked the waitress for our check! That was the quickest thing we got! 20 minutes later, she came back to get paid! We even had to go to the bar to get our own drinks! I was warned, thought it was a fluke guess NOT!! Pros: View, Inexpensive, Good Parking Cons: , SERVICE, SERVICE!!!!! more

4th of July 7/5/2003

I spent this last 4th of July there with my friend and her family, and though there was about a half hour wait, the food was great and the waiter was patient. We watched the fireworks from inside the dining area (fantastic view) as we ate triple chocolate cake-- what could be better? Pros: nice area, great view, good food Cons: slightly pricey, crowded more

The best 6/20/2003

The appetizers are a-1 ! The bartenders are curtious and fast and make the best drinks and are very knowledgeable about their products. The ambience and view of the city is great. Denise the bartender is great also ! Pros: Good food, Great Service, Great atmosphere Cons: , -, - more

Relaxing 8/8/2002

The view says it all. There is no better place to go on a Friday evening after work. The food is good, the beer is cold and the people are great. It can get a bit pricey, but sitting outside on the deck w/a couple of friends checking out the city or the beautiful girls is well worht it. more

Wow! 7/29/2002

This has to be the best place in all of Pittsburgh to take people visiting for the first time. The food is good and comes in large portions for the price. The price of the drinks is in line with the rest of Pittsburgh. But the view and the decks far outreaches the rest of Pittsburgh. Only Il Pizziolo comes close as far as outdoor seating. But the Grandview Saloon is definetely the best in the city. Pros: View, Food Portions, View Cons: No Parking more

User Friendly!! 7/23/2002

My offspring and I enjoy going to the Grandview Saloon. The food is delicious, the service very courteous, attentive and genuine. The view is wonderful, and I try to take visitors from out of town there to enjoy the good food/drink and to soak in the spectacular view of the Golden Triangle. I/we have enjoyed the ambience both indoors and outdoors. Pros: Good food, Genuinely courteous, Great value Cons: limited parking more

owner bites 7/21/2002

Owner has location and doesn't care about service. She was extremley rude, to not only us, but everyone in the resturant. After a three hour wait, we had to return or food twice before we finally left. If it was possible to rate this any lower I would. Pros: parking, view, bartender Cons: owner's attitude, wait time, security gaurd more
