A real community of grocers! 8/29/2011

Santa Monica?s Co-opportunity is more than just a grocer; it?s a community. In fact, as its name suggests, the store is a co-op. This means that it?s owned by members who pay an annual fee in exchange for certain benefits. In addition to receiving left-over profits, members serve on the Board of Directors, get special deals on food, and receive discounts on services from other members. They also really know each other, which was evident by the constant stop-and-chats we witnessed during our visit. Luckily, you need not to be a member in order to shop (or take part in good conversation) here. As its name also implies, Co-opportunity is a socially and environmentally conscious business. Most of its food is organic and locally-produced. It offers a wide array of items for those with special dietary needs (macrobiotics, wheat-free, gluten-free, dairy and lactose free, raw food, vegetarian and vega, and GMO-free). It also has a nice vitamin and cosmetic department with homeopathic and cruelty-free items. Best of all, the prices are relatively low, especially when it comes to the fresh produce. And, it makes Co-opportunity a great choice for all shoppers. @thelagourmet more

Healthy one-stop market 2/5/2006

Great little market. Has quite a few hard to find items in the general store. The deli has some wonderful healthy food but the service can be slow and sometime rude.. but still worth the abuse. Pros: good veg, good deli Cons: can be hard to park, rude service more

GREAT STORE!!! 11/28/2004

This is the Little Supermarket That Could! People come from all over the city to shop here. Somehow this tiny organic co-op seems to have better variety and higher quality that Whole Foods! Particularly when it comes to Herbs and suppliments. Also, the sandwiches they make at the deli are awesome! I reccommend the Turkey Meatloaf. Of course, it isn't as cheap as Vons, but when you buy organic, your first priority can't be price. Pros: Selection, Great deli, CLEAN!!!! Cons: , too many homeless more
