In ShortUpstairs is Excess, a smallish club with a dry bar (licorice, Blow Pops, bottled water) and a dimly lit dance area surrounded by mirrored walls. Orbit is downstairs, and while the space's low ceilings and black lights make it feel like a basement, the dance floor is roomier, the music louder and the people more relaxed. The vibe, from management to coat-check girl, is unfailingly polite and welcoming, and the gay-owned-and-operated venue is remarkably straight-friendly.
