I HAVE BEEN TO THIS RANGE 5 OR 6 TIMES OVER THE YEARS.\r EVERY TIME I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT EXCEPTION I HAVE SEEN THE MEN AND WOMAN WHO RUN THIS MUD HOLE TREAT THEIR ""CUSTOMERS"" LI...

Can see both sides.... 1/21/2009

I have been and continue to be a shooter at this range. There is some middle ground in the reviews here. As is typical, that is where the truth is to be found. The owner, Al, is indeed an arrogant individual. He is prone to ranting a bit and in my opinion is generally obnoxious. My brother took his CHL class there and said pretty much the same. He said that he would not recommend the place to others for the class simply because the guy was an obnoxious 'know it all'. At the same time, he did admit that Al was knowledgeable and he got what he needed from the class. He just wouldn't choose that person to be who he had to listen to for ten hours again. However, the claims that he and the daughter are on a constant rampage berating customers is simply wild exaggeration. I have seem him be far more abrupt in his demeanor than I would appreciate as a customer, but certainly not to the extent others described here. Also, I have never felt the place to be unsafe. In summary, it is probably my second least favorite gun range, but it is certainly not so bad that it deserves being completely abandoned. I prefer someplace that greets me with a smile and seems genuinely grateful for my business. It is true that you won't get that here, but it is also not likely that you will be yelled at and ridiculed as described by others here either. more

Reader Beware, There Be Liars Posting Here 9/24/2008

I have used this range a couple of times within the last few months, and can assure you that most of the stuff these people are posting is BS. They have ceasefires once or twice an hour during which you aren't allowed near your firearm, and if you do get close they will let you know, and if they have to they will yell at you. I don't mind that a bit, even being one of the ones who were corrected when I stepped up to the line during a ceasefire once, it lets me know they're paying attention. If something like that bothers you maybe you should go have a tea party with your kids dolls, it's a friggin gun range not a ball pit. The only thing about the place I'd like to see change is the addition of a standing fire range. \r \r Again reader beware as there is currently a movement to get this place shut down so the rich (insert word that rhymes with hicks, but starts with pr) across the street can expand. Pros: Very Safe & Stringent Cons: No standing, or rapid fire more

don't listen to the FALSE crappy reviews...probably from the developer across the street that wants this place closed 9/24/2008

There's a group of us that go once a month-our group is comprised of architects and engineers. We fire from pistols to assault rilfes when we're there and not once have I witnessed an unsafe act on the range (we stay for about 3 or 4 hours). The owner-Al-does yell at people - WHEN THEY ARE NOT FOLLOWING RANGE RULES!...most of the whinny ""Al's not professional!"" comments probably were acting like idiots so they got what they deserve...as for the buy new glasses review-that guy is full of BS-as long as you have eye protection, Al or Melanie has never given us grief about it...We've gone there for 5 months now-no complaints from my group of 7 or more. It's a very safe range-I've gone to 4 other ones and they are just as safe and sometimes even more strict than the other ranges. Don't listen to the bad reviews - like i said, it's probably from the overpaid employees of the High end homes (Tuscan Lakes) developer who is just trying to get this honest guy thrown out of the area so that Mr. lover of the Fake Roman Aqueduct and italian cypress yuppy can have a place to park his chromed out H2 and drink his wine...quit leaving fake reviews ya jack-a$$es- and go back to drinking your pink zinfandels... more

Clear Creek Gun Range is a no go! 9/2/2008

I would avoid this range at all cost. \r \r The owner is impossible to deal with, roams the range harassing and critiquing customers/shooters and uses perverted foul language openly and directed to shooters. \r \r The owner forces shooters to use his out dated ""bulls eye"" targets and will not allow a skilled shooter to use IPSIC targets. Even with a significant backdrop he will not allow shooters to shoot head shots from the ten yard line or draw from the holster. \r \r The range is not maintained and standing water, mud and mosquito's are always a problem. \r \r It is worth it to drive to Texas City and use the municipal range where the employees are professional, kind and actually range the range with range supervisors who are the assist. more

Look I don't know who's writing these negative reviews, but let me give you some insight on my own personal experience with Al's gun range. I moved to Kemah a little over a year ago and discovered recently the Clear Creek Gun range. I thought it was pretty awesome to have a gun range close by so I checked it out. I spent a couple of hours shooting without any incident, there were no rude remarks by anyone (employees or patrons). The staff were very conscientious for safety, they even corrected me for not standing at a safe location during a ceasefire. That gives me comfort knowing they're out there watching for knuckleheads such as myself. They do have a couple of dogs there, but these mongrels are pretty easy going and won't even bother the very fleas biting them. On my first outing at Al's range I locked my keys in the car and Al was gracious enough to help me slim Jim it open before the tow truck company arrived to charge me $50.00. He did this while he was taking a break instructing one of his Concealed handgun courses. I thought that was pretty nice of him. On top of that the bolt on my 30-06 was froze up and he fixed it free of charge. He did all this for some nimrod he didn't even know. So if you ask me Al is good people and he's got my business, this is from some lackey who just got back from Iraq. If you have a personal beef with Al, that's your problem, but don't affect the mans business. He's doing some good by teaching law abiding citizens to handle their firearms in a proper and safe way. Hoowah! Pros: Nice people. Cons: Could be a cleaner joint. more

Save your self the trip.............. 7/30/2008

I went the the Gun Range with a friend to do some shooting, and we both left without firing a shot, astounded by the rudeness and antisocial behavior of both the girl behind the counter, and the owner, Al Trug. While paying to get in my friend was informed that his glasses were unacceptable, and that he could purchase some for a small fee. I innocuously remarked,"" I have been coming here for twenty years and have not heard that before"". With no furthur interchange the girl left to bring back the owner who informed us that if we did not like it we could get the @%$#*() out of there. We looked at each other calmly, remarked that we really do not need to pay to be insulted, and both requested our money back. On the way to our vehicles the owner ran back outside and yelled to us that if we ever came back that he would have us arrested for criminal trespass... We probably will not go back........thought we would save you the trip as well..................... Pros: It is nearby Cons: Rude and antisocail staff more

TRULY BAD EXAMPLES OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, PROFESSIONALISM AND SAFETY. 6/17/2008

THIS OLD RANGE IS NOW RUN BY AL TRUGG. HE IS A TEXTBOOK CASE OF REPRESSED RAGE AND VOLATILITY. ALTHOUGH HE IS REALLY A FINE, SENSITIVE HUMAN BEING, HIS SIZE, MARITAL EXPERIENCES AND FAILURES HAVE LEFT HIM INCAPABLE OF RELATING TO THE REST OF SOCIETY AS A SANE INDIVIDUAL. FOUL LANGUAGE, EXPLOSIVE BEHAVIOR, VERBAL ABUSE OF LOCAL POLICE OFFICERS AND VERBAL ABUSE OF EMPLOYEES, CUSTOMERS AND PHONE CALLERS ARE THE NORM HERE.\r BUT HE DOES CONDUCT A GOOD CHL LICENSING PROGRAM.\r I DON'T GO THERE ANY MORE BECAUSE SOMEONE OF HIS NATURE SHOU LD NOT BE ANYWHERE NEAR A FIREARM!! Pros: GOOD PLACE TO SEE HOW NOT TO RUN A BUSINESS. Cons: EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE MISTREATED more

A miserable shooting experience 6/17/2008

I have been to many gun ranges in the greater Houston area (Thunder Range, American Shooting Center, Carter's Country, Baileys, just to name a few). This gun range is absolutely the worst. It is poorly kept and very obvious to anyone who knows anything about shooting that this family run business shouldn't be in business.\r \r Of the two times I went there, both of them had the father run around screaming at people. I had observed the people that he was screaming at and they were following the rules, as well as exhibiting common sense and courtesy to those around them. For some reason he seemed to be on a power trip. My second and last visit - I had brought my family there one afternoon (wife, daugher 14 and son 12). After listening to the little corporal's foul mouth, and before firing a single round or posting my target, I decided I did not want my children to continue to have to listen to him. I packed up my things and went went back into the office. \r \r On our way out, I stopped at the counter to turn back in the targets and ask for a refund, and was answered by the older lady behind the counter with a round of profanity that would have made a sailor blush. All of this in front of my son and daugher.\r \r I was caught off guard for a moment by the shocking reaction, and she quickly threatened to call the police and have me arrested if I didn't get my %$# off her property.\r \r Needless to say, I left and have never been back. The only people that I can imagine going the more

I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT I AM READING HERE 5/28/2008

I worked at the Clear Creek Gun Range in 1981 and got to know Ernest Randall very well. \r \r I was only 17 at the time but I remember the man and his wife as some of the nicest, most decent people I had ever known and that still holds true today. \r \r And, I clearly recall that safety was always his top priority.\r \r I know that it has been 27 years since I have talked to Mr. Randall or been to his range, and I know that things change, but I still cannot believe the negative remarks made here.\r \r I never met the man that is supposedly running the range, Al Trug, so I can not attest to his character. \r \r But, Mr. Randall made a large enough impression on me that when I ran across these negative reviews posted online I felt I owed it to him to tell what I remembered.\r \r Mr. Randall, if you read this, I wish you all the best and I thank you for helping a young, dumb, and headstrong kid become a better person.\r \r God bless you and yours. more

Clear Creek Gun nuts 5/10/2008

Enjoy shooting?\r Safety conscious?\r Over 21 and an actual adult?\r If yes to all the above then stay away from Clear Creek Gun Range in League City, Texas.\r Owner and daughter are a true enlightenment to the uninitiated in poor customer relations. \r They act like petty tyrants, scream at and abuse people like adolescent bullies and have no control over either themselves or the actions of some of their careless patrons.\r \r Our experience:\r \r The day of our visit started with high-pitched, adrenalized ""humor"" by the owner ranting about drinking alcohol at their range (by them, not others). After paying they soon began playing tag team bullies to scream at me for my asking why I should not be allowed to carry an empty rifle case (open and inspected by them) to the shooting bench. The pair punctuated their fits of spittle-spraying mania with braying expletives and high-volume threats of expulsion and banishment for about 5 minutes. During this display of the dangers of untreated mental illness the owner approached my party with clenched fists, finger jabbing thrust towards us from inches away and disturbing reaches toward his firearm.\r All the time, in an adjacent room with an open doorway to the room we were standing, there were several people sitting at a table for a CHL class with their firearms in front of them. Two of them actually picked up their guns and began pointing them in random directions including towards us and themselves while pulling back the slides with magazines in place. I assume they were either bored or intimidated but they were definitely not being supervised in firearm safety.\r Even so we had come out to shoot so we persevered. Besides the obvious attraction of interacting with the owners the range is unkempt, the benches dilapidated and the target holders almost unusable. Breaks for cease fire were called at random, sometimes only through co-operation of the shooters among themselves with no range master in sight. \r Avoid this 1. Pros: location Cons: extremely unfriendly staff, horrible condition of facilities more

HORRIBLE GUN RANGE. VERY DANGEROUS PLACE 4/5/2008

Must be the owner writing the reviews. The owner and his daughters are crazy. The range is not safe. I have seen them scream in the face of customer, curse and yell. I live within 4 miles but I choose to drive 15 miles just to shoot at another range. The facilities are horrible. The place is falling a part. I have seen them kick numerous people out for nothing. I witness the older lady grab someone while they were sitting at the 100 yrd rifle range with a loaded gun to scream at them. This was all done when in the middle of live fire when it was OK to shoot. If you dont believe me search Clear Creek Gun range. There is a guy that list gun ranges on a website. He has had 5 people write in about how horrible there experiences were there and the website is just a directory not a rating service. No other gun range in America has comments but that one. Pros: None Horrible Place Cons: Abusive Staff, Facilities falling apart, Yelling & Screaming Common, Staff Assaults Customers more

lost of space. very organized shooting. extra long rifle range 3/9/2008

I have to agree with the other posotive review. Everyone employed at this range was more than helpful. \r They did bore sight services on my rifle, and then gave me plenty of targets to use to dial in my weapon. A+++ service. I will definatley use this range again. Pros: great service, lots of room, very organized Cons: have to shoot steel shot when shooting sporting clays. no lead more

This place is great, that review is bs and political. 2/23/2008

This is a great gun range, and there is nothing wrong with the owner. I have lived in League City since I was 8 and have been going there since I was 13, and have never had a complaint about the place or anyone that works there. Lots of room to do whatever you could want. League City is trying to shut this guy down and take his land so they can build more tract housing, so that is probably what is behind that other review. Go there. There's no other place like it to shoot. Pros: Lots of space for pistol range, rifle intermediate and long range, archery, and trap. Cons: people who leave untrue reviews to hurt this poor guy's business. more

Avoid if possible 10/20/2007

The owner is very unprofessional and does a lot of yelling. Took my son there to have an enjoyable day shooting and it turned out to be a bad experience. If you can go to a professionally ran indoor range do so. Also the owner allows his dogs to roam the shooting range. Shooting fees are very high if you bring additional weapons to shoot Pros: outdoor shooting range Cons: Owner more
