Let me just say that I really loved this place. My kids loved it. I can't go here anymore, because of the bad experience we had, which makes the whole situation worse. We purchased a Groupon a few months ago. We hadn't been since July's Fresh Market in Hyde Park, when we forgot to bring our Groupon with us and for some reason we couldn't pull it up on my phone...no big deal, we'll remember it next time. Well, we tried to use it this week, but first there was a sign on the door saying that they were closed due to electrical problems. Then my husband went after work yesterday, the day the Groupon expired, and they were closed at 6:45 pm (normal hours are until 9) with a sign on the door still saying they were having electrical problems. I emailed the store immediately to make sure, once their electrical issues were worked out, they would redeem the Groupons for a day or so longer. I got an email explaining they closed early because they had run out of candy since so many people tried to redeem their Groupon on the last day. I asked again if the Groupon could be redeemed today (the day after expiration) since they had issues meeting the demand and had been closed during the week of expiration, and the response was brief: ""The Groupon has expired"". My husband called, thinking it must be a miscommunication, and the guy said ""Well, you should have redeemed it 6 months ago. Too bad. It's expired."" Groupon was wonderful and refunded us what we paid, but it's not the money. It's the fact that we are loyal customers of this place. I was looking forward to doing a candy class with my son (one of the discounts on the Groupon). We loved stopping by after the Hyde Park Fresh Market or painting pottery next door. Despite the fact that their location is in the middle of a struggling shopping center and parking can be a pain, we liked to go there and we recommended it to friends. To be treated so abruptly and inconsiderately was disappointing. We just did not know it was that kind of place and that the ownership was this kind of person. Well, now we know. And we won't be back. There are other candy stores. We will find another.
