Best

I just took my bike in for the one-month tune-up after buying it here -- both experiences were fairly good.

The service department is excellent and consistently knowled 5/27/2011

I've tried pretty much every bike shop around d.c. and I have settled on city bikes. The service department is excellent and consistently knowledgeable. They do a good job of devoting their attention to you, without being snobbish. Try to come in on a weekday when it is slower, and they will take care of you. They get really busy on weekends. I've never thought their prices were outrageous, but I also do most basic bike maintenance myself. more

Helpful, trust-worthy, knowledgeable staff. 5/20/2011

Great range of bikes. Helpful, trust-worthy, knowledgeable staff. Patience with the indecisive customer ( I gave at lest three bikes a whirl around the AM area). All the accessories you could want. Good service and fitting work. more

I am really impressed. 5/18/2011

I thought my speed geer was broken and might need to be changed, because last time I fixed it, the bike shop charged me $20 for ""adjusting"" and told me I might need to change it before long. It turned out that it just because the geer for one speed that I always used was badly wore out, but the other parts were perfectly fine. So the person in City Bike, who remember me although I was there only for the second time, told me just to avoid using that speed, didn't charge me anything, and even refused to take the tips I offered. I am really impressed. more

I went there twice 5/16/2011

I went there twice, the first time was to change my brakes, and the second time was to fix my speed-change switch. more

These folks are super 5/11/2011

These folks are super. They went above and beyond to fix my bike more

I definitely recommend 5/11/2011

Loved my experience there. Gin was super helpful and fun. She also talked me out of the more expensive option which makes me trust this store even more! It was my first bike purchase and Gin really helped me figure out what would work for me. I definitely recommend! more

Awesome employees, awesome attitude, awesome bike 5/9/2011

They installed my rear rack for me that I bought and she was ready to go after her exit tune-up by closing the next day. Best $500 I ever spent. Awesome employees, awesome attitude, awesome bike. more

I was very pleasantly surprised 5/9/2011

Since I was looking for a step-through frame and not a $2000 racing bike, I was expecting the sort of dismissive attitude I'd encountered before (coughRevolutionCyclescough). I was very pleasantly surprised to find that they not only seem to be the only shop in the area with more than two step-through frames in stock, they also were super friendly, unpushy, and relaxed about the whole thing. I tried out one bike one day (it was not too long before closing, but I was encouraged to take my time) and another the next. more

pretty cool and civil 5/5/2011

All the people that work there that I've talked to were pretty cool and civil, and I got some work done that did not cost me an arm and a leg. more

show off your D.C. pride! 5/4/2011

They are very good about repairs, and bikes in for repair are fixed and returned quickly. While you're there, you should pick up a Chrome messenger bag with a City Bikes patch -- show off your D.C. pride! more

everything the cyclist would need 5/3/2011

City Bikes is a local chain of bike stores. They offer everything the cyclist would need, from bikes to clothing to messenger bags to repairs to you name it! They have a wide variety of mountain and street bikes, with fair prices and helpful service staff. They will even let you ""test drive"" bikes, which is very cool. more

friendly and helpful 5/2/2011

they do have a pretty good selection, and the staff can be friendly and helpful more

largest selection of functional urban road bikes 4/25/2011

Great big selection of bikes, including what is probably the city's largest selection of functional urban road bikes. If you're looking to buy something with fenders and panniers to use as transportation, this place actually carries a bunch of them. more

no problems 4/25/2011

As others have pointed out, no problems working with an older (70s,80s) bike. more

well-rounded knowledge about the bikes 4/21/2011

I spent one morning test-riding 5 different roadbikes under 1G. Lookin for a decent commuter bike that also performed when I pushed it.. thank goodness they were ready and willing to make several fine-tuned adjustments at my request! didn't feel like i was bothering them or asking for too much. 2 and a half hours later when i was done test-riding and absolutely fell in love with one bike, they didn't pressure me to buy it on the spot (which i totally appreciate).staff seemed to have well-rounded knowledge about the bikes i was test-riding... and they didn't bother trying to up-sell me after i told them my spending limit (another thing i totally appreciate). they definitely weren't snooty or trying to show off their knowledge or experiences either. i enjoyed joking around with them... professional & fun group/staff for sure! i looked up many of the bikes they have at the manufacturer's websites and to my surprise, city bikes is indeed selling at the msrp prices.... i don't believe they're ripping off customers when it comes to the roadbikes. as far as gear is concerned i didn't even think to look bc i'm a super bargain shopper who automatically defers for the rei outlet...would definitely recommend city bikes for people shopping around and looking to test-ride hella bikes more

good service 4/20/2011

I've been doing business with City Bikes for years and they are the only bike store in the area that I will go to for anything seriously bike related like repairs or advice. I might shop at other stores for clothing and such where things might be cheaper but you cannot beat City Bikes when it comes to good service. more

excellent service 4/19/2011

I've been 3 times now, and each time I've received excellent service. No one has been condescending or anything, and I'm pretty sure that I've asked some jacked-up things. Their Thursday night intro class is awesome too. more

Can't thank you enough Mark 4/15/2011

I lost a piece of my rear derailleur on the way home, my jockey wheel. In my old neighborhood I stopped at my favorite shop, 10 minutes after closing, and they we're helpful, after a bit of convincing they unlocked the door and accommodated me, agreeing that they were there TO help! In the end, I found myself sitting on the ground with City Bike's head mechanic outside the store, after his work day, helping me with my bike issue. Can't thank you enough Mark! These guys went out of their way to help me AFTER HOURS. Again, a wonderful act of kindness from a solid neighborhood bike shop. more

they quickly replaced it 4/12/2011

My only experience with their service: the seatpost bolt broke on my bike after a week -- not their fault, warranty item -- and they quickly replaced it. more
