Curly Girl Alert! 5/1/2009

I have the kind of curly hair that everyone has always said ""Oh, if I only had your curls"" about. And finally, I know what they are saying. I've had my hair cut at the ""curly hair"" salons uptown -- you know who they are, and the one downtown. Uptown was tooo matronly, downtown was tooo snooty. But Stanley is just right! He knew exactly what I was looking for, and how to make it work for me. My hair is now easy, fun, funky and not frizzy. And, thanks to the salon's color training program, under Christopher's watchful eye, I have put down my root touch up brush and I let the pros keep my hair a luscious red brown. Now, whenever someone comments on my hair, I think ""Thank you Christoper Stanley Salon."" Pros: Great Style/No Attitude more

Great overall experience at Christopher Stanley 4/24/2009

This place is nothing short of wonderful! I see Peter for color and Noelle for my cut. I've been to more salons in this city than I can count on two hands and have finally found my salon! Go and check it out for yourself, you will not be disappointed. Pros: talented and friendly staff more

Peter: as dreamy as never never land 4/3/2009

In a city where pretension and high prices are often touted as indicative of skill and quality, one has reason to tip-toe trepidatiously into a New York salon. Well, friends, Christopher Stanley salon will certainly put any fear to rest. First, Peter is certainly not your average stylist--as charming as he is talented, Mr. Ripley is truly 'a cut above.' (pun-ny). He gave me the most glorious, natural and effortless blond I have ever "worn." And, while he acknowledged the not-so hot brassy sheen I was rocking, he managed to do so with grace, and avoid the "omg girl who the f* does your hair" kind of attitude. His skill alon would have alone impelled my return, but on top of his adept coloring technique, Peter is perhaps the most charming hairdresser I have encountered. He and his assistant, a glorious pixie thing, made the appointment time fly by. His assistant avoided the go-to vapid chatter, and instead offered a refreshing example of what a beauty school student should be. All and All, great color, great people, a wonderful experience. Pros: great color, great people, nice atmosphere Cons: price is not awful, this is New York. more

Good place to have your hair done 3/30/2009

I was passing by and went in because I needed to change my look. I booked to have my hair highlighted and trimmed. I was a disappointed with the colour, and though I didn't want to complain, when I told my colourist, he was very gracious about the whole thing. He happily fixed my colour at no cost. I know this is standard procedure, but at the time I had no idea and was truly pleased that no one made a big deal out of it. The only strange part was that I had to go home with wet hair. Other than that, my colourist was great, my colour worked out, I was truly happy with the result and I will go back to have it redone. I was actually back there recently to have my hair blown out. Pros: Colour hair very well Cons: Cost (but that's New York) more

Peter Is My Hero 3/29/2009

A friend of mine told me about her colorist, Peter Ripley at this friendly little salon in Flatiron. I had been looking for a good colorist since my last one left for London and left me hanging. I had been to about 3 that just didn't get what I really wanted and fried my hair to a white blond and golden/orange roots... very bad and made me very sad. Peter took one look at my hair and started me on a journey of healthy, beautiful hair. The first session was amazing and I was so happy, but after my second time seeing him my hair feels and looks like REAL hair again. His thing is that he does not use bleach to make me blond... and he stopped changing my base which he says automatically makes hair yellow. I hate yellow and Peter makes sure there is NONE in my hair. He does not push product but makes sure I am using the right stuff to make it healthy. EVERYONE there is friendly and already knows my name. The front desk is wonderful and makes me feel like they have know me for years. I am so happy that I found Peter and this salon. Worth going downtown for feeling good about myself. Thank you so much, Peter. Pros: Peter - Peter - and the Calm, Friendly people at this salon Cons: Out of my way - but worth it more

I love my new hair style 3/29/2009

I recently went to visit this salon looking for a new look. I decided to change my color ( i went for a light blonde) & I got a cute shabby cut w/ bangs. I was so happy with the whole look. I had Karen do my color (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!! She came recommended by my friend & is seriously talented) & Veronica do my cut. I can't say enough how happy I am with the whole process, this is a great salon. Pros: Great colorist Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Best colorist in the city 3/29/2009

I got my hair colored last week by Karen & it is amazing. I have never had so many compliments on my hair in my life. I recently switched salons because my colorist moved out of the state & I was freaking out. A friend of mine requested Karen & I am so happy she did. I like to keep my hair blonde & have never been able to get it to look this natural before. Pros: Karen is a great colorist Cons: What are the drawbacks? more
