Delicious white clam chowder 7/26/2010

This is my go-to place for Chowder down at Pier 39. I really like how fast it is and how delicious the white clam chowder recipe is. It's one of my favorites in the city -- and you know how popular it is in SF! Definitely recommend it. There's not much seating, but if you can snag a table outside, you're good to go! They also serve more than just chowder -- never had their fish, but it all looks delicious! Pros: fast, bread bowls Cons: not much seating more

Not bad! 3/31/2008

Big Bird and I were hankering for some chowder, and decided to check this place out. The menu consists of fried seafood, fries and onion rings, a few sammiches and salads too.Prices were very reasonable - around $6.50 for chowder in a large sourdough bowl. The chowder wasn't mind-blowing, but still decent. Service was quick and efficient, but several tables had not been cleaned. Sure it's not a "" fine dining"" experience, but it's fun and wallet-friendly. We give it 4 cheeps! Pros: Quick, cheap Cons: Noisy, touristy more

very touristy of course 10/28/2006

not bad. especially if you're a tourist that wants clam chowder since you're by the pier. nothing is too die for there but you could definitely do worse. more

Good eats, Good deal 8/1/2006

So I saw this eatery featured on NBC's ""Today"" Show earlier this spring. Thinking to myself, hmm, I'm a native to the City and love finding tasty digs, I wanted to give this place a chance. Lots of the menu consists of fried food, but that's not a deterrent for me. If you're not into that, they've got shrimp & crab poorboys and (obviously) chowder bowls to suit your palette. The staff is young and efficient. The open air kitchen lets you keep an eye on the food preparation, which is always to see where your grub comes from. In any case, I guess NBC was right: This is a tasty place that won't break your wallet. Try it! Pros: Efficient workers, Fair prices, Open air kitchen Cons: Unlike full service restaurants at PIER 39, Chowders doesn't validate parking more
