Worst

I'm sorry, but I was not at all impressed with Chop Suey. I guess I'm just not into the wanna-bee "gangsta's" - and the rap music that goes along with it. The drinks weren't goo...

Best club in town 3/12/2006

No disrespect to the other reviews, but your complaints sound like they'd apply to any club in town. What Chop Suey does have is the best booking agent in town. Nowhere else will you find such commitment to bringing in the acts people really want to see, even when those acts don't fall under the exhaustingly trendy indie rock scene. There are a lot of great clubs in Seattle but Chop Suey gets my vote for front of the line. more

Could use some improvement 3/9/2006

I saw one of Guitar Wolf's last shows at Chop Suey. It was a cold night but it was way too hot and crowded inside - being pushed up against dozens of sweaty bodies before the bands have really begun is not much fun. I haven't spent much time in 21+ venues, so maybe this is just my inexperience talking, but I really wished that people would stop spilling their beer. Partway through the show someone knocked down the fire extinguisher or something and a putrid smell made its way through the room. People cleared out and the band (bless their hearts) just kept playing, but I didn't hear for maybe ten minutes what had happened, and the staff didn't seem all that concerned or eager to find out what was going on either. more

great acts, lousy space 1/23/2006

I don't understand why so many popular acts get booked here. I mean, the parking isn't too bad, since it's at the far end of Pike/Pine, but the venue itself is small and over-sold quite often. And the ventilation is terrible - I've often felt condensation dripping onto me at really crowded acts, making it feel like Florida rain. Plus the seats are nowhere near the stage, which is horrible for smaller shows. I've pretty much resolved to never go here again. more

Good Times 9/22/2005

This place is awesome! Great decor, quick service at the bar and everyone is very laid back. I used to live a block away and I would go here all the time. They have tons of great shows and they used to host YO SON hip-hop on Sunday nights- YO SON hasn't been the same since it left Chop Suey. But if you've been hearing a lot about this place you should probably just come on by and check it out. Great prices to get in. more

Great Venue for a Great Show 8/16/2005

An intimate stage with ample floor space makes Chop Suey a great place to see a show. Get close to the band or hang back at the bar. Either way is a great way to experience the evening’s performance. Shows are always reasonably priced, and the occasional free event will free up cash to spend on drinks. more

good for live shows overall 8/1/2005

Overall Chop Suey is a pretty good place to see a concert. My only real complaint is that in a couple shows I've been to there was a lot of noise from the bar area at the back that made it hard to concentrate on the music (plus when I saw a great show by Monade here, there was some kind of radio sound coming through the main speakers and they weren't very responsive about figuring out what the problem was...) more

What a nightmare! 6/15/2005

I took my kids to see an all ages show here I called beforehand and inquired about tickets.. they said "no problem". We showed up an hour early and were sent away only after the band had begun playing. This place was incredibly unorganized and I heard people complaining all over the place (so it wasnt just me). more

Editorial

  • In Short
The interior has been outfitted by someone with an eye for fashion and flare for kitsch--chinese lanterns hang from the ceiling, portraits of Bruce Lee decorate the walls, and a dim, red glow lights the dance floor. The layout is very accommodating to a good show: It's easy to get to both the bar and the bathroom quickly. The calendar is eclectic and might feature DJs one night and indie rock the next.
