REFRESHING 9/17/2010

I am a regular customer of this business and want to state how nice it is to see a manager that has her heart in the business and doesn't just see this as a "job". Her customer-first attitude is refreshing. If she tells you a product will be arriving, it's there. If she is running low on something, she doesn't just wait for the next delivery, she goes out of her way to pick it up from the warehouse before the schedule delivery date, even though this is outside her job "responsibility" and on her own time. It is refreshing to have someone that is honest in what they do NOT know and, more importantly, makes SURE that she researches every possible answer before giving you wrong information. She works well with her vendors and calls them for clarification whenever there is a doubt. More importantly, this manager is a long-time resident of the Proctor community and it shows in her unflagging support of the local artists and her desire to recommend other businesses in the Proctor area that can meet your needs. What a delightful representative of this shopping district! more

something strange is going on there 9/4/2010

Making a difference 6/5/2010

I can appreciate that the owner has had isssues, but the store is undergoing new management, and I think in the next month things will definitely be turning around. Yes, there have been more than a few employee changes. Yes, the owner is a little abrasive (that's why he hires customer friendly employees :-) But anytijme there is a change of ownership, there is an adjustment period. I believe by the middle of summer, this store will be right back on track! more

Great bird store 7/21/2009

I really like this store. The bird seed selection is great and the prices are fair. I know I can buy squirrel food at Safeway for a bit cheaper, but the squirrels wont eat it! They love the feed that I get from Chirp and Co. The only thing I wish they had more of would be cat and dog toys. I have a black lab and a tabby cat and I would love to buy their toys from chirp and co, but they just don't have a great selection. Other than that, I think its a great store with some really great employees. The boys that work there are always very helpful and they carry the bird seed out to my car! Its a great family kind of business, unlike petco or petsmart, which is highly corporate. more

Much better than before 6/30/2009

This store is great. I went to Chirp & Co in the afternoon last week and was fairly impressed with their progress. I went to that store a couple months ago and the manager was pretty rude, but he hired a new guy and it made all the difference. The employee was a very nice guy and he was very helpful. He showed me what I was looking for and even gave my puppy a treat (I have an adorable little beagle that I brought with me.) Once we were finished, he carried my birdseed to my car. I always liked this store because it still has the small business feel to it. It is not highly corporate and cold, it still has the friendly feeling, as long as the owner is not around. more

GREAT store 6/30/2009

I LOVE this store. I went to Chirp & Co on Thursday afternoon at 3pm. I went there a while back and was not very impressed, but I decided to go back and it was a completely different experience. The employee was a very nice guy and he was very helpful. He showed me where the hazelnuts were and even carried them to my truck. This place is great! more

going to the birds 4/17/2009

This store has gone downhill under new ownership. The proprietor is rude. Recently a window sign indicated he would be closed for 3 days midweek. My husband returned when he was to be open, but the store was closed. When my husband saw the owner on the street he flagged him down. My husband asked why he was not open. The owner said he was on vacation. When asked when he would be open, the owner replied, maybe tomorrow. The owner yelled, "be compassionate!" This is no way to run a business. Our business is going elsewhere. more

Chirp & Co - charming and unique! 3/5/2006

This is more than just a gift shop, it also has birdseed for wild birds, and food for dogs and cats that is organically-based. But the gifts are nice too! There are all kinds of things for birds, such as birdhouses, and also gift items with pictures of birds depicted on them. All sorts of other animals can be found as well - even wolves! There are even gifts FOR your pet, from toys and treats to bedding, all unique, and items you won't find in a chain store. There are even bird fountains outside on the covered porch of the shop, especially in summer. more

Bird seed, yard art, and cool pet stuff 8/18/2005

This is a cool little store in the Proctor District that is a good place to buy yard stuff for your "bird oasis". Feeders, seed, baths, etc., as well as other yard art. Don't buy the squirrel feeders, though, those things are total pests. They've also got lots of great pet food here, like natural and organic stuff, even raw food that is supposed to be more like the natural diet of a cat or dog. Fun store for browsing. Helpful clerks as well, who are willing to help you find what you want and also to hook you up with free samples of the pet food, etc. more
