Best

Before coming here, I had no idea that such an array of ice cream flavors even existed! China town isn't exactly famous for its ice cream, but after being intensely nagged bout it...

Worst

If, just like me, you can't get enough of the traditional japanese green tea ice cream, DON'T go to this much raved about Chinatown spot to get it. Despite the reviews from other ...

CICF is best! 6/29/2010

I loved it!!! they did it exactly how I wanted. They were able to deliver my order in 5 minutes and it was the best ice cream I have ever tasted. I love chocolate flavor and I never thought that it could be this much tasty. Taste and price both were wonderful. more

AVOID CAKE ORDERS 5/10/2010

The flavor of the cake was fine (mango, lychee, green tea), but it looked horrible! I ordered the 8 inch round cake with gummy bears as it appears on their web site. What I got was a much smaller cake (6 inches) with an extra pink rose and HARD mini gummy bears placed in a circle that looked like a 4 year-old did it. The icing made it look like a sloppily decorated cake - does not look like the advertised cake at all. Overpriced. more

best flavors here at this place... 7/30/2007

I love the exotic flavors here at Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. The ice cream is well executed and the prices are very fair. The black sesame is my favorite and I always like to go once a week and check out different flavors. Its definitely not a typlical ice cream shop but they do have common flavors, so go check it out! Its highly recommended. more

if you want exotic flavors, check this place out... 7/17/2007

After seeing all the rave reviews on Judys Book, It was a must for me to go and check out this place! and I'm so glad that I did. The ice cream is just amazing, and the exotic flavors are to die for. The almond is very good along with the red bean. I alo really enjoyed the green tea and the lychee, i am a repeat customer now and highly recommend anyone to go and try it, you wont regret it, it is definitely worth every penny, very reasonable prices! more

really glad I tried the red bean and lychee 7/17/2007

I was hesitant at first to try the exotic flavors but decided its worth a try, since there were so many rave reviews about it! I'm sure glad i tried it, now I'm addicted, and its so cheap, very affordable, surprisingly for the city! I tried both the red bean and lychee and loved it!, very great flavors and my girlfriend had tried the green tea, that was also amazing, its definitely worth the time to go and check this place out! more

every flavor under the sun! 6/5/2007

they have so many exotic flavors here like ube, lychee taro etc. and they're all soo yummy i went here with a friend and i didn't have any money so we just shared a plain vanilla but even that was the best vanilla i've ever tasted. the ice cream is really cheap. if you're visiting chinatown this is one place you have to visit! more

Get the ice cream while its cheap 1/5/2007

I don't know how this place does it, but they offer scoops at super reasonable prices. This is pretty rare in the city where the single scoop of ice cream to make your pie a la mode is $1. I love black sesame ice cream and its not easy to come by usually. I love durian ice cream but I warn that it is an acquired taste...I have eaten the fruit before as well. This establishment makes it fresh so its extra flavorful and you get your fill for chump change. If black sesame or durian sounds too exotic, don't knock it before you try it. The flavors are always surprisingly creamy and sweet with a touch of flavor. If you aren't feeling too experimental then go for vanilla...they make it fresh with bits of vanilla bean. Delicious! These are their listed flavors http://www.chinatownicecreamfactory.com/icecream_sorbet.html more

excellent ice cream! 8/7/2006

I went here because so many JB-ers had given it a great review I had to check it out for myself. Boy am I glad! I was expecting a bigger place, but once I walked inside the small shop, I was so excited by the out-of-the-ordinary ice cream flavors - I just love red bean and green tea ice cream, so happy to have found a spot to indulge!! The lychee sorbet was the absolute best sorbet I have ever had - didn't know they made lychees into sorbet, oh my, that is a flavor not to be missed if you go over there. Bayard Street is just a couple of blocks down from Canal, and the ice cream place is a block east of Hagen Daaz. You must check this one out if you haven't already, I agree with everyone's reviews, this place is fantastic! more

Ice Cream Factory 6/18/2006

When I first heard of Chinatown Ice Cream Factory the words lychee ice cream didn't really do it for me. But when I went there last summer I have to admit the ice cream was very good. Although I got the Rocky Road instead of the lychee. Don't bother trying to sit inside theres no room. It's better to take the ice cream and go. I definitely want to go back this summer. more

Ice Cream yourself today... 6/6/2006

So, if I lived in Manhattan, I'd probably have to make a trek to this place every weekend. As it is now I wish I could visit NYC more so I can have their delicious ice cream. Mmm.. and not just ice cream, but sorbet as well. That Lychee sorbet is just amazing, so refreshing with the right amount of sweetness. I'm not normally a desserts person, but this place would make me one. Too bad the place is too small to have some chairs for sitting down and enjoying the treats. more

delicious ice cream 4/9/2006

Chinatown Ice Cream Factory has so many unique flavors. If you visit, don't get the strawberry or chocolate.. try something interesting and daring. The almond is insanely good, as is the pumpkin and lychee. Red bean! I really want some ice cream now. The price is the same as Haagen Dazs (spelling? I give up!) but the experience is so much more interesting. more

unboring 4/8/2006

I usually never get ice cream outside. I'm all for Turkey Hill. $2.50 half gallon, Path Mark. But when I do occassionally want ice cream on the spot, I come here because they have great flavors like red bean and lychee. Much more interesting than Haagen Dazs or Carvel. However, the cones here can be a bit on the pricey side for ice cream. more

Chinatown's best 3/27/2006

I grew up eating ice-cream from Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, so I don't think about the little shop much. That is, until there were rumors that their lease was up and the place was closing. This place is home to some of the most exotic flavors, such as almond cookie, lychee, red bean and taro (all of which are very good). Their prices are constantly rising (then again, whose prices aren't these days?), but once you've tasted their homemade ice-cream you're bound to be back for more. more

Ice Cream 3/24/2006

Chinatown Ice Cream is one of those shops that is hard to find but worth the search. The lines are often very long on warm days but the ice cream is totally worth it. Don't bother trying to eat inside. The store is too small. They have the usual Chocolate/Strawberry/Vanilla staples as well as lychee and marshmallow and some other weird flavors I can't remember offhand. Next time you're in Chinatown stop by and have a cone. more

Great flavors 3/21/2006

Ever wondered what ginger ice cream, sesame seed ice cream or green tea ice cream might taste like? If you did, run to Chinatown Ice Cream Factory and get a taste. Don't waste your time on the "exotic" flavors like vanilla or chocolate. Tickle your palate with the more unusual flavors. You might just like it. more

greatest ever 12/30/2005

this ice cream store is way better than your ordinary ice cream store. their flavors are very unique ranging from red bean, green tea, to straberry cheesecake. it is such a great place to go to as you can make it a goal to try all of their flavors. they make their own ice cream, so it is fresh. my personal favorite is the peach. and they make awesome ice cream cakes with three flavors of ice cream. i bought the red bean, lychee, and mango flavored ice cream cake. and it was magnificent. more

Lots of great unique flavors 12/17/2005

This is a great place to come for unique flavors. Best are the green tea and red bean flavors. Sweet but not overpowering. They have planty of flavors to choose from and they even sell ice cream cakes. I would recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth. However, be warned it generally can get quite busy with lines out the door --- mostly because the shop is really tiny -- enough room for 1.5 average persons from the wall to the counter. That's the only negative remark I can make about the store but it's worth the wait. more
