I've ordered from here multiple times while visiting NYC and they are always fast and thorough when completing my order. The prices and selection are good, and as a result I'll continue to use them in the future. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because I've had better Sesame Chicken and General Tso Chicken dishes elsewhere, but they are still worth trying. more

Find an employee who can converse. 3/23/2011

I called twice before finding an employee who could help me pick a sushi/sashimi. Decent ingredients, service time as promised, and reasonable prices considering the location. more

Great place to have a quiet, cozy meal 1/19/2010

I come here for lunch all the time and dinner when I end up staying late around the area. They have great chinese and japanese food and beverages too. It's a small place but it's a very clean and cozy (so comfortable). \r Keep up the good work, chef 28! Pros: Great food and service! Cons: not for big parties more

Great Lunch Spot 2/11/2009

I work right around the corner from this place - they have GREAT lunch specials, both Chinese and Japanse food. Great price, great service, great food. We visit all the time and will continue to go back! more

Christine of Chef 28 says ""Best in New York"" I AGREE 12/12/2008

Years ago I worked a block away and ate at Chef 28 all the time. Now I am across town and seldom in the neighborhood. The ""best things in life"" are hard to forget. That is why I always return to Chef 28. I make a point to be in the neighborhood when I am in need for a GREAT lunch. \r Today I made sure to schedule a business appointment around lunch time so that I could frequent my favorite lunch spot in the city. Take my word and visit this place when your in the neighborhood. And tell Christine at the front, she is right. ""The Best in New York"" Pros: Everything more

Great lunch specials, mostly take-out but when I eat in... always a great experience. Nice ambiance too. A nice go to spot. more

Crazy person answers phone 4/15/2008

I order from this place probably about once every 2 weeks- the same thing...steamed chicken and mixed vegetables. Today I called to place my order and was told that they don't make that dish. I said ""I know it's not a lunch special, but it is on your regular menu"". Crazy lady said ""that is impossible, we don't make that dish"". Come on. Who has time for this? Pros: They make food. Cons: Crazy lady answers the phone. more

Surprisingly Great Chinese in Midtown 1/1/2008

My friend and I had dinner here on New Years Eve, since every other place had inflated menu prices. So glad we did! For the price you pay for Chinese food, it was great. And the quality was very good too! We got the seafood pan fried noodle and some other shrimp and veggie dish with rice. They were both big portions, and everything was fresh! Plus, we got so many jumbo size shrimps, clean, in our dishes! Even when you eat in Chinese places in Flushing/Chinatown, you might not get that! So I thought based on those 2 dishes, the quality is pretty good, esp since its not anywhere near Chinatown, and the value is good too. There is also a sushi menu, but we didn't have any.\r \r Ambience--it's a nice place! Very clean and the staff was very attentive. It doesn't feel like a ""quick meal"" place, but a stop in, eat comfortably, and then go on your way place. I would def eat here again if I'm craving for Chinese food around this area, and would def come by for lunch during work as well. Pros: Quality of food, friendly staff, comfy ambience Cons: nothing more

Good Value 7/16/2007

We just ordered delivery for the first time. It was ok. For the price, the food was good. The chicken was fine and the soup was ok. If you are looking for a place that delivers pretty quickly and is worth the price, give this place a try. Pros: Great Value, Prompt Delivery Cons: You get what you pay for...Better than the average, but not the best. more

Best Japanese/Chinese food for the money 6/20/2007

My husband and I have been coming to Chef 28 for over 15 years. They recently went through a much needed renovation and not only does it look fabulous but the food is delicious. The service is prompt and very friendly. The Manhattan roll is to die for, and everything is fresh. Pros: Great sushi and the best shrimp fried rice more

What a find!! 3/3/2005

They have an extensive menu. I've had 3 items: Vietnamese Sesame Chicken Rolls Spicy Shrimp Wonton Dumplings Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow) They are each perfection! I'm afraid to try anything else here, and shouldn't be!! Service with a smile, and the finest Har Gow in New York City. Who'd have thought it possible on East 28th Street? Enjoy!! Pros: Food, Quiet, Good Parking more

Great value for delivery 5/29/2003

I've never actually been inside the place, but have ordered delivery at least once a week for the past couple of months. The dinner specials come with a nice, if simple, salad with tasty dressing, soup, choice of brown or white rice, and your choice of a generous selection of entrees, all for less than $8. For me it usually ends up being three meals worth! The hot and sour soup is not great, but the won ton soup is quite lovely, and both the gong pao chicken and broccoli beef are tasty. The gong pao chicken varies in spiciness though. I like it spicy! more
