I love italian food, and I realize this is not a north end (high end) restaurant, but the Chateau in Waltham still ranks as one of my all time favorite places to eat in the Boston...

What's the Big Deal 4/22/2006

I know this place is a total fixture and has been here forever and ever. I guess it's sort of like Vinny Testa's (now Vinny T's), where people are impressed by moderate prices and big portions (Chateau doesn't overkill the garlic like Vinny does). I know this place is wildly popular on Sundays after church, and I suppose it makes sense becaues the place is huge and there are lots of long tables which makes it ideal for a large group. They are certainly used to big groups and are very accomodating to them, so that's a plus. All of that said, the food is just average. It's sort of your typical spaghetti with red sauce type of place -- nothing fancy or creative. Definitely friendly staff and a friendly atmosphere. School Street is one way on many blocks, so driving can be a bit of a pain. more

Can't get enough of the bread 2/13/2006

The food is excellent, the meatballs are hearty and big. The dining is sit down. It is lively and comfortable with it's many rooms. They also rent function rooms for any occasion. Many children and families have been going there for years (there is a child's menu consisting of grilled cheese, hamburgers, sandwiches and such). No smoking at the table, but they allow it in the lounge where . more

Great Casual Dining 10/29/2005

The Chateau Restaurant has been a fixture in Waltham for years. In addition to your everyday dining, they offer a variety of private rooms for all of your family functions. The staff are always friendly and attentive and many will go out of their way to accommodate any special requests. The atmosphere is casual and the crowd is a mix of old and yound. The cuisine is primarily Italian foods, although there are some classic fish, meat, and salad options. The dish that the Chateau is known for is their "Toasted Raviolis" which are absolutely to die for! They are raviolis that are lightly breaded, toasted, and can be topped with tomato sauce or eaten alone. Also, they offer a good selection of desserts and coffees to end your meal with. more

Nothing special at all 8/1/2005

I visited the Chateau Restaurant on a recommendation from a friend but was very disappointed. The prices and portions are very generous, but the food did not live up to my expectations. My chicken parm was decent, but I've had so much better. Chateau is a family friendly place, but quality is just so-so. You can definitely find something better in the Waltham area. more

  • In Short
The original Waltham Chateau opened in 1933, and its interior hasn't changed much since. Norwood, Stoughton and Andover locations serve the original's menu of classic Italian...
