ok, this place would never pass a sanitation check. pigeons regularly fly in and out, walk around, etc. scary. i have to admit, the manapuas are HUGE. but this is deceptive--it's all dough and hardly any meat. which would explain why they're so cheap. so i'll pass, thank you! more

I grew up on this place 3/21/2006

I grew up having my mother bring us food from here every sunday so I am slightly bias to loving them. Most of their patronage comes from regular costumers. The pork hash is literally my favorite and I like to think is better then the really expensive places. However, it is literally a hole in the wall. Well, more like two holes in a wall (one for entrance and one for exit). However, you can watch them make it and it tastes really good. I do love the two types of rice cake they have and the elephant ears are also oober good. However, I don't think I really want to know whats in it. more

big manapua 8/17/2005

You wouldn't know what Char Hung Sut sold just by looking at it's plain facade void of any windows and just two doors. But inside this small unassuming establishment, you'll see ladies rolling out doughs and filling them with meaty ingredients...then you'll know what it is they sell. Dim sum. They do brisk business even though they have at most 8 (haven't really counted but there isn't much) or so items including manapua, pork hash, pepeiao and chow fun. The items are all cheap too--I guess they don't throw any profits into sprucing the place up but it's good because too many restaurants have a sterile look (this is absolutely not a knock on Char Hung Sut). The manapuas (only steamed) are huge and fluffy, filled with a relatively small amount of sweet filling. Suits me fine though as the filling just recently reminded me of tuna filling in maki sushi--but the bun part is good. It's good if you can find parking...better if someone else gets it and brings it to you. more
