Central Market

Very good market for Asian food and cider! It's the only place in Seattle that I've been able to find Bulmers cider (cider enthusiasts...you know what I'm talking about!). Their Asian food section includes all the staples that you usually have to go to Uwajimaya for (and fight that traffic) like the good instant noodles, frozen potstickers, a million different kinds of tofu, Asian pickles, etc. Their produce is nice also, and they have a good frozen food section including nice frozen dinners like Grace's Kitchen. Oh! And they have frozen laulau, kalua pig and poi (and luau leaves) for those who crave Hawaiian food! more

If you take the cozy trendy atmosphere of whole foods, then stretch it out to fit in a costco warehouse, and then combine a selection that you might expect if Trader Joe's and PCC merged together, you'd have Central Market. It may not excel in any one dimension, but it's still hard to resist. Assuming, of course, that you have the transportation to got to this "central" place 150 blocks north of Seattle's downtown core. more

Central Market is a fine locally owned place to buy groceries, wine and beer. They offer a large variety of both organic and non-organic foods at very reasonable prices. Their wine selection is as fine as most specialty wine shops, as is their beer selection. The market offers fresh meats, seafood and an above average produce section. A very good and cheaper alternative to Whole Foods or other national stores. more

Central Market is a unique grocery store. With an emphasis on Asian food, the store has many Asian items that you otherwise would have to go to Ranch99 or Uwajimaya to find. It also has a very large produce section with many hard to find fruits and roots. The store's stated objective for produce is to offer organic produce at non-organic prices whenever possible. So they sometimes have good deals on organic produce. Also unique is Central Market's large bulk food section which includes spices, grains, nuts, oils, etc. With a second emphasis on health food, the Market has a fairly large natural foods frozen foods section. It also has an extensive specialy cheese selection and baked goods purchased by the piece. There is a food court at one end of the store with long tables and TVs. One caveat, Central Market is not the best store for buying your regular staples. On these items selection is limited and prices are often higher than other grocery stores. more
