Cellar Bar

I haven't been here for about 2 years and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the party is still going strong. Drinks are pretty much the same price but the bar tenders have gotten much more generous with the alcohol. A friend at BirthdaysAndBottles hooked us up with the VIP treatment and we can't recommend their service enough! If you're getting a table then the best spot in the house is still next to the entrance/DJ - you'll have a lot more space. more

My friend, Daisy had a rad party here. AccessGotham booked the party free and gave us a delicious strawberry birthday cake for 40 people. We even got a free bottle of Merlot. Celebration extraordinaire. more

I will never set foot in this place or Bryant Park Hotel ever again. A male was photographing me inside the bar and when I asked the bouncer for help I was instead carried out violenty and left on the street. I have bruises from him on my lower back. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no manager was on staff. I ended up calling the police to report how badly I was treated. The staff then ganged up against me and started to call me names. What's worse is the police arrived and took their story first and carried me out in handcuffs for ""trespassing"". The male who was photographing me was not asked to leave and remained in the bar, while I was taken to a holding cell. I now have to appear in court to fight criminal charges for a crime I didn't commit. Very scary place, scary and bullying staff. All you girls reading out there, I beg you not to go here. I don't want what happened to me to happen to you. more

I'm responsible for setting up a semi-annual networking event for my young professionals group. We used to do it at loft spaces but wanted something a bit more upbeat this year. The event planner we used recommended Cellar Bar as the best place for us. The interior was very impressive and well suited for us. Our group got a great drink special from 6-8pm. I would definitely contact the staff at JSN Productions to setup your event, they're thorough and will get you a great deal more

I was never treated so poorly in my life. We came in to celebrate my friends birthday, and from the start we were looked upon as trash. as the night progressed, we were thrown out, because someone tried to start a fight with us, Keep in mind we purchased 3 bottles and were not able to enjoy them. I will not go back and would not recommend this place to anyone, as a native new yorker and an avid club guru. The bouncers and door men, were nasty as can be, and were not wiling to work with us, my choice was to be thrown out in cuffs or pay my bill. very disappointed i was treated like a criminal while they stole my money! Another big issue was the age limit, as we were walking around, it seemed as if the age of alot of the club goers were in their teens? so if your a guy looking to have a good time BECAREFUL! more

Went here for a friends birthday last weekend. Very laid back and relaxed atmosphere and the layout of the space was cool. Great for large groups, however I would recommend getting on the guest list by contacting AccessGotham. com. We went in the VIP and were inside in a a matter of minutes! Drinks are a fairly priced, remember were your to a bar in the Bryant Park Hotel, the place is fancy. I look forward to going back soon! more

I got a complimentary bottle because we were a large party of 40 plus. If they you have less, they offer free drink tickets. The decor is very nice inside, and its laid out well. Thank you AccessGotham for getting us in with no hassles. more

After reading other people's reviews, I have to say mine is strictly for a Thursday after-work event and all I got was great service and strong drinks. We had our own private sections booked and our waitress was very nice but slightly slow. Nonetheless, she gave us strong drinks and they kept coming! We also tried some of the cheese plates and chips with salsa. They were alright, typical bar food. I really like the decor too; it was nice and I felt like I was in some underground secret hideout. There were no loud obnoxious crowd which I really appreciated. I would definitely revisit this place! more

They have the worst face control ever. The doorman was mean and it seems he was trying to play a taugh dictator. He was turning people away just because he didn't like the tone of their voice, which wasn't bad at all, prohibited use of cellphones, talking between people in like even when I needed to find out the name of my guestlist and almost turned me away for not remembering it, then after my friend still told it to me nevermind security bitching threatenned to deny an entrance again if I don't immediately recall it by heart. About 5 out of 10 visitors were turned off by this sheboy's attetude. I don't think I wanna go back again. Cons: After doorman finished with you you wanna leave the place. more

I have been hearing great things about this bar from co-workers forever so I went last week and had an amazing time! It's really sexy and chill inside without being pretentious at all---the staff was unusually friendly and helpful and we felt taken care of from the minute we walked in. There's a ton of specialty drinks to choose from, including a happy hour list that we definitely took advantage of, and they had a DJ spinning that night who had the perfect mixture of ""loungey"" and upbeat music--while a little loud sometimes it made it feel like we really were escaping after a long work day. I liked that the crowd was full of professionals like us and I could see why--with all the bars around this one stands out as a perfect balance of relaxing lounge and busy bar all in one. I'm a new regular for sure! Pros: sexy, great drinks, friendly staff Cons: a little pricey but worth it more

I went here Friday night and it was the worst! I didn't have to waint in a line or anything, but when I got there, I could barely move. I was stuck up against a wall, forced to push my way through people, stepping on toes to get to the bar. I have been to Cellar Bar so many times over the years. It has always been a classic place. Last Friday I celebrated my roommate's birthday. Went there on a Saturday night to celebrate a friends B-Day and let me just say that his place is HOTTTT ! I read the reviews and was expecting a not so exciting night. I was told it was very very very trendy and that sometimes the bouncers would give you a hard time at the door... SOOO NOT THE CASE !! I arrived around 11pm, there was a small line but the bouncer let us walk right in, the music was HOTTTT a nice mix of everything (I usually go to latin spots so I was alilttle hesitant) the service was GREATTTT, they kept on checking on us and were very polite. GREAT atmosphere, nice place... will defenitely go there again !! BUTTTT I do agree it was alittle pricey but its worth it since there is no cover !! Went the other night with a colleague from the office. If you arrive early (5:30pm on a weeknight), you easily can get a table or seat at the bar, which is perfect for people watching when the place starts to fill around 7. Server was pleasant, great music and cool atmosphere. Specialty cocktail menu was just OK (too many sweet/fruity options) but they have all the standards. I'll be back. more

Went there on a Friday night. The bouncer gave us the impression this was some fancy super uptight place by making our group wait for our GIRL friend before he let us all in. But the crowd inside was cool and energetic and having a good time. Drinks were expensive, but the decor (high vaulted ceilings) and music (we went there on a friend's recommendation who said the music was good, she was right) made up for it. we had six people who were ordering drinks and they came by and told us to close out our tab because there might be a table reservation coming. fine. closed it out. then the waitress never came back. flagged down a barback who told us we had to go to the bar to get drinks. fine. whatever. this place is definitely trying to be better than it is -- obviously a case of disillusionment for the bar. it's an okay place but the crowd is a mix of hip and not so hip and definitely not nice enough to justify the hipper-than-thou attitude of the service people at this bar. the service people should remember -- they are SERVICE people not the clients. a word of advice to the bar -- if you're going to put up this much attitude, you need to have something to back it up -- not just a wannabe attitude that upsets clients. btw, i don't know why this place shows a five star review on citysearch -- maybe that's the editor's rating? if so, given that thus far more than half the reviews are three stars or below, this editor obviously has not taken into account any service rating when rating this bar. My friends and I went here around 9pm on a Saturday. The bouncer told us to get in line, behind NO ONE. We obliged and stood behind the rope. After carding us all, another man told us that we could not go in. The people who got in line behind us were easily welcomed in without a reservation. This was the excuse they gave my party of 6. We are not a rowdy bunch and we were stopping in for a glass of wine, or two ;) Save your money and go elsewhere!!!! If the bouncers were so rude, imagine the staff? more

I agree w/the previous review. This place has great ambiance but I would not consider it a couples spot. It's a a great place for groups of friends and meeting people. I went for the first time last night and had such a good time. The music was great and mixed old songs w/new beats and they play everything from oldies to dance to hip hop. We could not stop dancing. Crowd is very attractive and overall the place was really beautiful. This place has an upscale club feeling w/no cover charge however they do get u with the drinks.
