Really don't bother with this place, unless you are new in town and dont know any better or a bridge and tunneler. It is one of the worst bars in the city and they charge a cover....

Must visit! Great place 6/11/2010

Been in 7 countries visited many famous Clubs and Bars, but this on is the best place in San Francisco! Their event called "My Heart Beats For... " is the best venue. Their bartender Brian makes the best drinks. Make sure to try his: Tequila, Triple Sec, Lime Juice and Sweet N Sour with a squeeze of lime. Simple, basic, nothing fancy but this blend has a calming effect on the fiery tequila that most people like. The place has cozy look and The Cellar Nightclub is right next door and managed by the same people. I recommend visiting the place and check out their venues and specials! Very friendly, good drink selection, and the best party atmosphere ever! Pros: Nice and cozy atmosphere more

DEF coming back!!! 9/29/2009

I came here last Friday for the My Heart Beats For... event with a girlfriend. Surprisingly, there was a really good turnout and alot of beautiful people walking around. I LOVED the gigantic fireplace. The best part of the night were the $5 sangrias and skinny senoritas! Can't really beat that price in SF. Will def be coming back next friday to check out the art scene and get more $5 drinks!! Pros: great drinks, good ambiance more

Ah. Okay. 4/28/2009

Sugar is a great place to hang out..... they squeeze fresh orange juice every day!!!!!! they also roast their own beans......... and best of all they make their own pastries. FRESH!!!! is the word that describes this place. Pros: everything Cons: nope more

The spot! Where everyone knows your name! 11/2/2007

Not sure where MXgirl was the other night, but the Cellar is my favorite club in the city, and it rocks. They've just changed the colors on the wall, and the place looks much bigger. the airconditioning is working better, and the staff is the same staff it's been for a really long time! (where else in the city do you get to go to a bar and know your favorite bartenders will STILL be working there 6 months later...). The doormen - after having you show up 3-4 times over the course of 6 months, WILL REMEMBER YOU! no one is stuck up here. The drinks are strong, a vodka redbull is only $6. rock on. they treat their guest list and bottle service reservations like VIPs, though they could work a bit on the VIP sections (they're in the middle of the club). The crowd tends to be a bit on the younger side, but it's still fun. and SYLVIA is one of the best bartenders in the city. :) Pros: friendly staff, great prices, fun music Cons: young crowd more

Sugar Cafe...Perfect place for an event/party! 10/30/2007

I was thrilled to host my friends going away party at Sugar Cafe! From start to finish the process of organizing the party was in good hands. I spoke with Shiri, the manager, about food, set up, prices, music etc. She was professional and prompt in returning my calls. The night went off without a hitch. The lounge had the perfect vibe for such an event, great drinks too. Thank you to Shiri and Sugar Cafe for making this event a memorable one. more

Trashy! 10/22/2007

Ok, I am from Orlando, and we do not have the best clubs here, so maybe I was expecting too much! First warning was the bouncer looking at my ID and saying....oooh Arizona. Um, no, can you read?? Florida! When corrected he proceeded to tell me what a horrible day he had. What bouncer have you ever met that actually talks to you let alone tells you his life story??! Then standing in the door way were two trashy boys and I say boys cause they looked about 15. The chick at the door looked like she was ready to pass out from boredom. This place was so trasy and gross, we left after 2 minutes. I have to say I read the reviews and thought this would be a good place to party, but if this is the way people party in San Fran, I would rather be in Orlando! I guess I was expecting "classy LA" but this place...... totally gross! Pros: Trashy people Cons: Everything about this place! more

Seriously??????? 8/2/2007

OMG!!!!!! What is this #^$@! Honest, the bouners were complete jerks. I was wearing my leather leopard skin pants and almost got turned away. I was there with my girls, not a cute guy in sight....or girl for that matter!!!! And the tunes!??? It was like church on a Tuesday! I wouldn't recommend this place to my grandmother, and she's not alive! So, I think I'll try watch "shark week" on Discovery instead! Save your bones, and jump somebodies instead! Suzie xo more

Great Ambiance, coffee and dessert, slow service 5/10/2007

I've gone to Sugar Cafe a few times during the day. The coffee drinks are tasty, and the dessert is to die for! While, the ambiance and people watching can not be beat, the service is lacking. I'm trying to cut the place a break since they're new but I'm growing tired of the staff not acknowleding customers until they're ready, especially when the place is pretty empty and a few of them are just standing around. Work on the service and the place will be just about perfect. Pros: Great people watching, yummy coffee and desserts Cons: Slow service more

Great, cool loungey bar & great customer service... 5/2/2007

I just want to give a shout out to Ms. Jona, the Asst. Mgr. & all her helpful staff at Sugar for letting use their beautiful bar last night as a venue for an organization I belong to. Everyone, loved the look & feel & just overall sleekness of the place. Besides, that you get beyond the sleekness and at the same time you feel welcomed there...we all had a blast last night & again, thanks to Jona & her excellent staff they made the night even smoother & successful for our big group b/c they were so helpful & accomodating throughout the night. I was told the drinks were pretty dang great too...even though I was trying to keep my wits about me as the coordinator just drinking bottled water throughout the night. Also, big pluses for the huge movie screen playing movies at night inside & OUTSIDE the establishment...the neat-O factor is high on that one... more

Private parties that makes sense! 2/8/2007

I cannot believe how well private party people are treated here! I did not realize how hard it is to book a private party without signing your life away in this town until recently. 50 people may not be a large group to some clubs, but The Cellar people treated us like VIP for our special night. We rented out their side room (which was remodeled I guess and now looks super upscale) in the evening for a $350 bar guarantee -- other places I called tried to make us guarantee $2000!! When they opened to the public at 10pm, we got a few VIP booths at NO extra charge, and they let all of our friends in for free... even the ones that came after midnight! Seriously, no other club in downtown SF will give you this deal -- I checked! Pros: Accomodating staff, cheap strong drinks. Cons: Parking is a little hairy if you don't want to pay... we parked in the lot next door more

Wouldn't have a birthday party anywhere else! 12/19/2006

We just had bottle service here for my boyfriend's birthday and they planning staff completely blew me away. Not only did they let us get ALL of our guests in for free all night, but we got to cut to the front of the line when we arrived. Our cocktail waitress took care of us all night, selling us individual drinks after we finished off the bottle so none of us ever had to wait for a drink. Seriously, if you to plan a fabulous group event where you don't have to spend $900 but get treated like you did, go here. We planned our party through Stephanie, but the whole staff seemed really friendly on the night of. We're going back for New Year's eve! Pros: Crowded, but not too crowded Cons: Having to walk all the way up the stairs to have a cigarette! more

I love this place! 12/19/2006

Unbelievable - 80's & Hip Hop with Scoty Fox!!! I love this place and have a great time every time I go! The club is just the right size.. Not too large and not too small. The bartenders and staff are great! They let my friend have his birthday party there at no cost!!! Pros: Music, Great Looking Crowd, & Strong Drinks Cons: A little hot more

Thank you Cellar for hosting my B-Day party! 12/19/2006

I reserved a table (bottle service) and they put ALL of my friends on the guest list! Not like the club last year I went to that limited my guest list to 6 people per bottle!! Once I got to the club we had are own hostess who was waiting for us at the entrance to accompany us to our table. The music was great. Most of my friends were in the hip hop room but I enjoyed the top hits room. The service was really incredible and we will be coming back soon! Thank you Cellar! Pros: Excellent service & great music Cons: We really had a great time! more

Possibly one of the worst clubs i have ever been to 12/18/2006

It looks like their reviews were great after the reopening and have begun to slide. I have to say the crowd was so trashy. There was a disgusting older man actually touching himself on the side of the dance floor while watching a group of girls dance. (no he was not dancing) When we came to pay the cover the doorman told us he would cut us a deal. he brought us around the corner and stuck the $40 (for 5 pretty girls) in his pocket. We know that money never reached the club. How shady. I guess he was 'cutting us a deal' by letting one of us in for free as the regular cover is ten each. This was my first warning sign. The second was that in the bathroom one stall had an occupant getting sick and in the free stall the toilet seat was actually cracked off from the toilet (it fell on the floor when i went in). The music was nothing special, any requests that we had were turned down by the unfriendly DJ. Drinks were overpriced and absolutely no eye candy there. The only good things i can say are that the actual bar itself was chic looking as there were rotating spinning bottle shelves and some cool looking ceiling artwork. They would have been better off investing in a new staff and bathroom. more

You have got to be kidding me! 12/5/2006

Really don't bother with this place, unless you are new in town and dont know any better or a bridge and tunneler. It is one of the worst bars in the city and they charge a cover. Pros: people watching Cons: everything else more

good for what it is 11/10/2006

i may just be getting old but i can't believe how young people who are 21 look these days. which was probably the average age of the clubgoer here, so it wasn't exactly my scene. i liked the dj(s) quite a bit, and the two separate dance floors are always fun for a group with different tastes (the night i went it was 80s on one side, top 40 hip hop on the other) - but unfortuantely in the middle it's quite the trainwreck - you can hear both djs at the same in at least a third of the bar, which is just loud and annoying. i would definitely recommend it for any college students or others of the we-just-started-drinking-in-bars crowd. more
