Da Bomb 3/1/2003

It's hard to find a cool, fairly inexpensive place to kick it, but Cat & Fiddle meets all of the above and then some. It's just a great all around place to hang out, have some drinks, maybe even grub some food outside on the patio. They've got a full bar and full menu. It's a cool spot to take a date or even go with the homies. Cat & Fiddle meets my approval and two big thumbs up. Pros: Fairly inexpensive, Good gender ratio Cons: Bad Parking more

if you like bad food/wrm beer-it rocks 2/5/2003

this place sucks...warm beer and bland food, but if you like that, you are in! more

Cat & Fiddle ROCKS 1/9/2003

Great after-work place! The food is very good and the prices are reasonable. It has a great ""English Pub"" feel. The service is delightful and drinks are generously poured. Pros: Great food, Nice outside area Cons: Parking not great, Get crowded more

Great Hangout 11/15/2002

If you want to hangout with friends and grab a cold one this is a great place to go more

British Flavor with Hollywood Flair 9/19/2002

Ahhh, having lived in London before, its definitely not traditional, the vibe is pure hollywood. But this is a fun bar to hang out at almost any day of the week. Because of its location, its a big after-work hangout and attracts an industry crowd. Scattered service, have encountered some very rude wait staff a few times. But management and most servers and bartenders seem pretty accomodating. more

Nice place, but complicated 9/18/2002

Outdoor seating (the best part) only if the majority of the group is there, and if the majority of the group orders food. We start a table inside, when it's clear that four out of seven order food, we can't sit outside because all tables are taken. They won't reserve a table for us when one frees up. No individual tabs -- we have the hassle of figuring out who pays how much, and the 15% group tip is already included. Tried to go last week already -- place closed for staff vacation. I had called ahead and asked about cover charge on Mondays -- they could have mentioned they are closed the following Monday. Pros: Outdoor seating Cons: Outd. Seating Policy, Group unfriendly more

Reetercat 8/8/2002

The favorite hang out of the beloved Morrisey! I love hittin' up this spot on Sunday mornings for a great English breakfast and a bloody mary. It's the loveliest garden to stay drunk all day in! Love, love, love!!! more

Not my style. 7/29/2002

It's a nice place to go and have a drink with your mother, but other than that, The service is so slow slow. I tried to catch one of the waitstaff once and it took me 14 min. That's way too slow. This place is full of people who buy their clothing at Banana Republic or J Crew. No thanks. I like the restaurant part of it, it's pretty decent, though service is slow there as well. I would recommend the fish and chips. The patio is nice, but the crowd is weak. If you like dive bars like the fish, Colorado or even blue room on a good day, this place may be a bit slow for you. more

Free Cheese 7/25/2002

Cheese cubes (from 4-7pm, anyway) and guys who look as if they used to be in the band Small Faces are common sights on the excellent C&F patio -- where the only drawback is the fact that the staff will ask patrons who aren't eating to move during the dinner-hour rush. (As if they won't make just as much money off people taking liquid dinners.) There's no other place like this in the Hollywood area, a bar packed with people trying hard to act as if they're not from L.A. Best after-work bar in town -- although the food selection is limited, if you're not into fried appetizers or sausage. more

Best Place in Town to Grab a Pint 7/2/2002

A great place to relax and down a pint or two before heading out for a night on the town or even after. Nice ambiance. A true pub feel to it, right down to the good food. I'd have to agree with the who ""friendly crowd"" as well. Top notch. The only down side is that it does take a while to get your check. So if you have the time, definately a place to come to. more

Perfect patio 6/28/2002

This is one of the best after-work bars around. Great happy hour, great beer selection, friendly crowd. Stick with the fried food and you'll be very happy (fish and chips are stellar). The only downside is that they are very strict about sitting on the patio in the evening and not eating--it's not allowed because the place gets so crowded. So, get there early and be sure to order some munchies. Pros: Beer selection, Beautiful patio, Fish & chips Cons: Crowded, Slow service at times more

Fun and VivaLa Great! 6/27/2002

If you want to people watch and get a beer or two or three or twenty the Cat & Fiddle is a great place to go after work or early in the evening, with a group or with a friend. The food is yummy too! Pros: good food, great drinks, fun atmosphere Cons: can be crowded more

Second Fiddle 6/26/2002

although the outdoor ""beer garden"" of this place can't beat... the service(attitude) is unbearable. and generally, there's no place to sit outside. don't even try taking a table it you're only ordering drinks. overpriced drinks. go to the bar if you want a drink (and you already dont have a table)... your ""server"" won't find you or care if they do. food is overpriced and a waste of time. Pros: great atmosphere Cons: expensive, poor service, crowded more

Great Pub Food 6/24/2002

This is an excellent after-work restaurant/bar and there is plenty of outdoor seating with a fountain for ambience. They offer friendly, unpretentious service. Pros: good parking, friendly service, good food/drinks Cons: bar can get crowded more

Mixed crowd adds to the mix 6/20/2002

What I've always enjoyed about the Cat 'N Fiddle is the fact that the crowd there is as diverse as at any bar/restaurant in LA. You can be 21 or 25 or 32 and not feel completely out of place. Sure, it's still a pick-up joint to a certain extent, but you'll often see groups of friends casually eating, drinking and lounging in the atmosphere, large dinner parties inside, or couples off in their own world. You can be comfortable whether with a date, a friend or a group of friends/co-workers. It's a great place to sip drinks, take in the outdoor patio atmosphere and just hang. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Diverse Crowd, Fun Cons: Overcrowded sometimes, Parking limited more

Trendy at best 6/12/2002

Not thrilled about this bar in the least. It is trendy for sure. The idea is great, with its outdoor patio, outdoor bar and then a place to retreat inside. However, once the crowd gets there, forget about finding a place to sit or even getting a drink. I was there for a friend's going away party and i couldn't even hear him in order to have a conversation. Since there was no chance for visiting, I decided to get a drink. Once I did get a drink, it was expensive and weak. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone that wants to do more then people watch. Cons: crowded, street parking more

Food is ok 6/3/2002

I've never been here for any of the live music, but I've seen it packed while walking by. My friend and I had lunch here and the service and the food was just ok. The outside patio area was nice to sit at. Cons: street parking more

Trendiest Pub in Town 5/30/2002

Although steeped in British tradition, this LA hot spot caters to the trendy and well-groomed. Don't show up in jeans and a t-shirt unless you want to feel out of place. The vibe is friendly and the bar is worldly. The patio is the best place to spend a warm evening drinking before the night owls take over. more

The Fat on the Cat 5/30/2002

This is one of those venues that should receive two separate ratings. For an after- work beer and some tasty pub grub, this is your place. The patio sets the perfect tone for a relaxing meal of LA's best Fish and Chips and some great conversation (you know the totally honest talks you can have only have after a couple of pints of some great ale.) However, after months of raving about this place to a group friend, I finally had the opportunity on a Saturday night to show them what all the hubbub was about. Talk about muddy ale in my face. I couldn't hear anyone to have a conversation, they wouldn't serve a Black and Tan, and the great after-work ambiance and service must of left for England. Ratings based on weekdays. Pros: Tasty Fish and Chips, Fabo Patio, Beer Selection Cons: Poor weekend serv., Over-crowded weekend more

Britain in LA 5/22/2002

After spending some time in the UK, I admit I have a soft spot for pubs. I high recommend ordering a beer (nothing from the US) and sitting on the patio. For the full experience, I'd suggest getting a Sausage Roll or a Scotch Egg. Get there early in the evening to guarantee a spot. And be there for the world cup games (the pub will be showing many of the important games). more
