My wife and I moved from Texas to Florida in 2000. We searched for a good Mexican food resturant for over a year. We literally ate at every Mexican Resturant in Jacksonville. We ...

Worst

Yet another formulaic mexican eatery lacking in quality and creativity. Taco Bell is better. Aren't we sick of the same old microwaved chicken & beef burritos with lardy beans. ...

Comp to La Nopalera but worse food and more money 2/6/2011

The guacamole is blended with a mix or frozen or something. The margaritas were nasty. (How do you screw up a margarita?) The rest of the food was bland like - I don't know, maybe jmatthe is right and - it was all frozen or canned or something. I will certainly never go there again. And it's pretty expensive for Mexican food. We had 2 margs, guac, and 2 entrees = $45. Not worth the trip. I should've cooked my El Paso kit at home. more

dont believe the hipe 9/19/2007

NIce story desiz, and that pretty much all it is a story. Without any proof (name, or photo) that just can't be posible. take your lies elsewhere. anyways, restaurant is nice food is avarage though. not very healthy for you and doesn't taste very fresh at times. I guess it depends on who is cooking. overall there is nothing special about the place. maybe i'll comeback and try it again. Pros: chips & salsa Cons: Not very healthy cooking more

fast food quality 9/4/2006

Yet another formulaic mexican eatery lacking in quality and creativity. Taco Bell is better. Aren't we sick of the same old microwaved chicken & beef burritos with lardy beans. cheezy cheese and uninspired rice? Not to mention partially hydrogenated cardboardy chips. Pros: must be the drinks Cons: the food, the food, the food more

Best Mexican Food In Town 5/23/2005

My wife and I moved from Texas to Florida in 2000. We searched for a good Mexican food resturant for over a year. We literally ate at every Mexican Resturant in Jacksonville. We found that Castillo De Mexico was truly the best of them all. Coming from Texas we thought we would never find good Mexican food. We now eat their at least twice a week. My wife loves their Margarita's and Happy hour not to mention the salsa wow! is it good. We do not eat Mexican food any were else. more

Castillo De Mexico - the best 11/6/2003

I have eaten several times at both Castillo De Mexico on A1A in Jax Beach and the ""#1"" Mexican Restaurant in the Jacksonville area, La Nopalero. They are BOTH excellent. But Castillo De Mexico comes out a full cut above all the others on the basis of their food, which is always fresh, wonderfully prepared and generous of portion, and their Margaritas, which are to DIE for. The best Margarita in the city, bar none, and at a decent price, is Castillo De Mexico's ""Top Shelf"". One ""con"" - we went there one weekend night where they had live music that was not Mariachi or in any other way Mexican.... in fact it was not in any way ""good"". A couple of guys with poor voices warbling top 20 songs of long ago over strummed guitars. Pros: Best Margarita!, Excellent Food, Nice Location Cons: Live music - painful, Sparse surroundings more

Say no to buffet 10/8/2003

I've been to Castillo's a few times. The Atmosphere is wonderful and the food is good. The Food is all cooked when you order it, expect it to take a while. I've also had the Buffet there, i recommend you do not go this route. The Buffet does not do the food justice. the Sangria is tasty.. And becasue teh food is cooked as it's ordered, sometime sthere is a wait to et seated. Pros: atmosphere Cons: slow more

En Fuego! 12/9/2002

Castillo De Mexico is my favorite place for mexican food in Jacksonville. My girlfriend and I have been to both locations, several times and have always been very happy with both the food and the service. They also have a great happy hour (2 for 1) every day of the week. Try their quesadillas, ask for the ""grilled"" chicken, they are wonderful. Pros: Happy Hour, Great Food more

Ultimate Margarita 12/5/2002

Not a big margarita fan in general but this one was over the top. Served frozen with what must have been a tequila floater. Knocked my socks off and was a perfect blend (not too much sugar or booze). Food was standard fare but overall worth the trip. Thumbs up. Pros: Margarita, Priced Right, Good Food more
