Best

Very good food. Fast service. When we arrived there was a line of people just to sign in for a table. Not to mention the line that had already signed in and were awaiting a table....

Worst

My husband and I eat a lot of Mexican. I would have to say that Taco Bell is better than this place. The only thing nice about it is the location. Bland food. Pros: Atmosph...

Good food on the river 1/22/2011

I was suprised at now good the food was and how affordable itwas. We were not gouged, like you expect at a tourist place. Food for four and GREAT margaritas for two came out to 50 bucks. more

On the decline 10/6/2010

I have always enjoyed eating at Casa Rio on the Riverwalk, but after our last experience, I'm not sure I want to go back anytime soon. The outside bar was closed the night we were there, so enjoying a margarita as we waited for our table wasn't an option. Once we were seated, it took too long for a server to greet us. And, to make things worse, he didn't seem to speak or understand English. Needless to say, our order was very difficult to make and we felt that he never clearly understood what we wanted. When the food came, it was obvious that he had no idea what we wanted to eat. We decided to just keep our plates because to attempt another order would have been too frustrating. It wouldn't have been so bad if the food we were served (but didn't order!) was good, but it was definitely below average. Overall, the whole experience was a big disappointment. The only good part of the meal was being able to sit outside by the river on a nice night. Next time, we will choose a different place to do that. more

Overall I felt this was good Texas style Mexican food. Nothing spectacular but the prices were super cheap and you do get a lot of food. The chip... more

Thoroughly enjoyable Mexican 6/28/2009

There must be a reason that this place draws such a long wait and several other people who ate here earlier in the week recommended it to me. I decided to eat here on my last night while travelling for a conference and went around 9 p.m. so it wasn't as crowded and were seated promptly as a party of four. Unfortunately, I wasn't very hungry so I only had the soft taco combo and split an order of chicken nachos which I enjoyed. Looking over the menu, their prices were very reasonable. They have a prime location on the river and seem to have the most waterfront tables which are in the shade of the setting sun. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would visit again when back in the area. Allow some waiting time if you plan to eat during prime dinner time. Pros: riverfront seating, tasty food, price Cons: long wait to be seated more

RIVERWALK MEXICAN GONE BA 9/17/2008

I AM MEXICAN AMERICAN FROM TEXAS AND THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE WORST MEXICAN FOOD, REST. AND SERVICE EVER. THE REST. IS VERY NICE ON THE WATER BUT IT IS SO OVER RATED. THE SOUP IS SO BAD, THE FAJITAS ARE NOT EVEN AUTHENTIC. WHO EATS FAJITAS WITH SOUR CREAM. I GUESS MY TYPE OF TEX MEX IS SO DIFF. THIS IS A PLACE FOR TOURIST. THE WAITRESS FORGOT TO PLACE OUR ORDER AND I ASKED THE MANAGER FOR ASSISTANCE AND HE SAID OK I WILL ANOTHER 35 MINUTES INSTEAD OF MAKING IT PRIORITY. WAITRESS WE HAD NEEDS TO JUST STAY HOME SO BAD. DO GO HERE AND LET PEOPLE THAT DONT KNOW MEXICAN FOOD GO HERE. THEY MIGHT LIKE IT. Pros: DECORATED NICE, Cons: FOOD, WAITRESS, SERVICE MANAGER, PRICES, AND FOOOOOOOD more

MUY BIEN! 9/2/2008

Very good food. Fast service. When we arrived there was a line of people just to sign in for a table. Not to mention the line that had already signed in and were awaiting a table. To our surprise they sat us in about 30 minutes which i thought was more than reasonable. The atmosphere and food were great. I would advise you to try it. I will be back for sure! Pros: Delicious Food, Awesome Location, Very reasonable prices Cons: A bit crowded because it a popular touris spot, but it seems very authentic and the line moves fast! more

Best Tex Mex in the World.... 5/5/2007

This is a great place....I began eating here in the 50's while in high school....It was a great favorite!! I live out of state now, but each time I visit San Antonio....I head for this great Tex Mex food still being served on the river bank....just as good today as in the 50's..... Pros: Lovely ...enjoy the beautiful San Antonio River and some of the best Tex Mex food in the world.... more

Pleasantly surprised 11/14/2006

I thought this would be one of your typical tourist trap restaurants on the Riverwalk but I wanted to try it anyway because it is always the restaurant they show when the Spurs are playing on TV (dumb reason I know). I was expecting the prices to be really expensive for mediocre food, but I was wrong. The prices are actually pretty cheap and the food was pretty good. The queso and chips were excellent. Location is great right on the river. I would definitely recommend even to locals who think the Riverwalk is only for tourists. Pros: prices, food, queso more

The Place to Have a Margarita on the Riverwalk 8/20/2006

This is your Father's favorite Mexican Restaurant, even if he doesn't know it yet. Casa Rio is true blue Tex Mex, pure and simple. If you're into Peach Salsa and Blue Corn Chips or are looking for a Heart Healthy suggestion, move on because you're only making real people wait. This is the place God goes to for chips, queso and a margarita... and this place has been around about as long as God has. This is good food right in the heart of the riverwalk, have a few Margarita's and a Mexican Dinner and Baby, you're Elvis! Pros: The perfect spot for a frosty Margarita. You know you've got to do it! Cons: Worst Chinese food in San Antonio more

HOME COOKING 5/7/2006

Good home made food. no canned microwaved food here. Hot chips fresh made salsa. Mariachi at your table if you want more

RIVERWALK Mexican Restaurant 4/24/2006

If you visit San Antonio Riverwalk, eat at Casa Rio. The food is always good and inexpensive. Pros: Riverwalk, Delicious, Inexpensive Cons: outdoors more

Highly overrated 3/14/2006

We have eaten there a few times over the years. The atmosphere is nice. Good people watching place. Food seems like a TV dinner heated in a microwave and served on a plate. Don't hang around too long though. They don't like ""campers"". Have to turn those tables. Pros: Nice water view Cons: TV dinner style food more
