Wowzers! After moving to San Francisco it seemed I would never find a hair dresser who could do color and cut and be creative and all be the same person. Cary has officially been put in charge of all aspects of my hair. He has a way of figuring out exactly what my hair needs and what I want even if I do a terrible job explaining it. A good hairdresser is so hard to find but an amazing one (Cary) is a miracle! more

As a person with pre-mature greying, I never thought I would get my hair colored. I thought I would just have to live with it. I read about grey hair blending technique that Cary specializes in, and I took a leap of faith. The results were great...people ask me what I done to look so much younger without putting their finger on the fact that I had colored my hair. Finding a good hair stylist and colorist is always tricky but I've been going to Cary for almost 2 years and have no complaints! He is very honest and always looking to make sure you look your best when you leave the saloon. Every time he has colored, highlighted or just cut my hair the compliments flow in once seen by friends and family. I hate finding a new hair stylist......I found Cary Carter on the web and was nervous....my hair had been ruined (over bleached) by my last attempt to find someone new. Cary was wonderful. He took the time to listen, managed to repair my hair (it actually looks healthy and shiny again). Several friends couldn't believe the transformation - they said it looks natural and the color is perfect for my skin tone. He really is an artist. Not to mention the cute cut he gave me! I've been going to Cary for over a year now and he has been fabulous from the beginning. My hair is not the typical slick Asian hair, it's thick, kinda coarse, and wavy, and definitely can grow outward like Medusa. I've tried other places like Oxen Rose and I used to go to Toni & Guy in Orange County. Before I went to Cary, I called to make sure he was skilled hair stylist, who was consistent and knew how to cut hair. I made a mistake of going to an 'artist' at Oxen Rose. Cary is very detailed and really takes his time on cutting and styling your hair. He has a natural talent, technique, and passion for hair, which not all hair stylists has. I've gotten the double hair look - this stylist layered my hair where it looked like I had two hair cuts... so horrible! Cary really makes sure that you look good when you leave the salon. He's consistent and works with you on the cut and style that you want. I always feel fabulous after seeing Cary. My hair is controlled, grows out very well, full of body and sexy. Traditionally, my hair has been big, curly, often frizzy, and absolutely everywhere. Not just anyone knows how to deal with this kind of hair. In fact, I haven?t had my hair cut by anyone but myself since I was 8 years old, when the local stylist literally put a bowl over my head and fashioned the most mortifying ?wedge? anyone has ever seen. I have been looking for my ""Cary "" for years...... After years of everything from unpredictable to downright devastating cuts, colors, highlights or even stylings, I left Cary Carter's chair overjoyed to know I don't have to search any longer ! Being accomodated last minute and nearly after hours was just the beginning of my pampering. After settling in with my hot tea (presented in an artsy glass carafe), we began ""the ritual""......Over the years I have had a number of different hair styles / looks that I have loved - that doesn't mean THEY loved ME ! I needed an experienced profesional's opinion, based on what would look best for my features. This is exactly what I wanted, asked for, and received - with reasons validating his decision ! At this point, I was eagerly anticipating the ""goods"" - could they be delivered? As time passed, easy conversation flowed, filled with his Southern charm. (I felt as if Tabitha would walk up behind any second, give a cocked head look and generously compliment him on his technique.)Then came the styling.....would I have bangs WAY TOO SHORT when they were dry? Would I look like a large bobblehead walking out? I took a sip of my cinnamon tea, a deep breath and hoped things would keep on this positive path. When everything was said and done, not only was I exceptionally pleased with the final result, but now I have a partner in which to create styles with a thought toward the future goal.....I have confidently been able to take this task ""off my shoulders"", knowing Cary will take care of me - all I have to do is get there ! I was out-of -town on business and just needed a haircut. I was assigned to Cary and had an absolutely wonderful time chatting the time away. I really love my haircut and his advice for me to ""go gray"" and the reasons why gave me something to seriously think about. Cary is an excellent stylist - I've been very happy with every cut after seeing him, and more importantly it grows out well. I used to return for a cut every 4 weeks, but since going to Cary I can usually go 6+ weeks before returning to the salon. Cary is also very good at providing direction and ideas if you want it, and he has a great ""chair-side"" manner. I definitely highly recommend Cary to anyone trying a new stylist. more

I've known Cary since he worked at Kamalaspa, and he's always been a fabulous hairstylist. My favorite things about him as a stylist and a person are that: he's sweet, he's funny, he really listens to what I want, he asks questions to clarify, and he has amazing skills to bring out the best in my hair. I had jumped around to a few different places and realized that of all of the people who have touched my hair since I've been in SF, he was the one who was consistently good and seemed confident that he could make my hair look great. I had had a stressful week, my birthday was nearing, and I really needed a change. I brought some photos in and explained what I needed. He really listened to me and gave me fabulous color that wasn't too damaging to my locks. He also gave me sexy bangs that totally changed my look. I keep getting compliments on my hair and I truly feel like a new person...it's pretty amazing what a really great cut and color can do for your self-esteem and outlook on life. It's totally worth it to go see Cary. He's wonderful. more

I have followed Cary to 3 salons over the last 2 years. This should give you some insight into how my hair feels about him. I first found him by accident while looking for a salon in Union square about 2 years ago. Luckily, he was the only stylist working in the now defunct Kamalspa. He gave me a glamour kitten layered cut with bangs which I loved. I stopped to going to him for awhile, because of the distance from the south bay, but after some time, I realized that he really is the only stylist in this area that I felt comfortable with and was creative enough to give me some ideas for how I want to look. I looked him up, and found him at MNKYTHMP. He gave me a ""big and sexy"" hair cut with beautiful natural highlights. Now, he's at Bibbo, and when I told him I wanted to grow out my hair, he gave me a hair cut which will help achieve this goal, as well as some advice on which products are best for this (Kerastase). What I love most about Cary, is that he is creative, and will always give you some options for the look you are trying to create. He is also very personable and has that Southern charm that makes you feel as if he really understands your needs and will help you fulfill them. He's a genuinely nice person and very good at what he does. Cary is amazing at what he does. He has a degree in art, and it shows in his work. He is meticulous in his approach and execution and he has the rare ability to capture the essence of his client in his art: creating a haircut/style that fits the client's appearance, personality and lifestyle. There were moments that felt 'Picassoesque', as Cary took a step back to look at his work, and then came back to apply the perfect finishing touches. Cary's work is integral: he doesn't just deliver a haircut, he creates the perfect finish to his client's personality. Despite his considerable talent, he is amazingly gentle, humble and unintrusive. Cary is the best! I have been going to Cary for 3 years. I love getting my haircut from him. All I have to do is show up and he takes it from there. Regardless if I keep my hair buzzed short, or if I am growing it out to have a more trendy haircut - Cary always takes great care of me. He knows what look will look best and keeps me current and stylish. I don't like to book too far in advance and he is very kind with his schedule and is always flexible to squeeze me into his books.
