TooLate 4/16/2012

Just thankful to have wised up in time before allowing the risk of this quality of care for my very special pet; they do everything to pretend they extend their very best to protect and care for your pet, money is no problem for them!! \r \r Fortunately my guy lives and is doing well because I caught on; true, the place seems empty despite the "renovation," probably people "got it!" more

Unhappy Customer 1/28/2011

They charge a bit more than average. They have a tendency to lead the customer into more exams than are needed. \r Example: My Labrador Retriever has PRA\r (no retina, 0% vision, no cure) \r My 1st visit was to for a teeth cleaning prescreen. The doctor tried to get my consent to paying about $300 for an Optomologist (eye specialist). \r It's actually funny. "yes indeed his 100% blindness has not got any worse, that will be $300 now" more

The most caring doctors and staff 9/17/2010

My doctor at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital is wonderful. Dr. Millian takes his time and listens to me and is very caring to my dogs. They have 7 doctors so I can always get in even on the weekends, I want to thank the wonderful staff for all their care and help when ever I am in there with Jack and Dolly. They never rush thru the appointment( which is 1/2 hour not 15 minutes) Love them!!! more

Hold on to your wallet and question everything. 9/7/2009

I've been bringing my dog here for the last four years or so. We started with Herrrera who seemed competent, but eventually settled on Dr. Blay. I thought she was great. Now I still think she's great with one exception. I can't afford her. Since they did the big remodel and expanded their facility, I have been made to feel like I (and my wallet) am wearing a target of some kind each time I walk through the door. Someone else here mentioned unnecessary tests. Tell me about it. Go for the most routine check up and try to get out of there for less than $400... good luck. Even their dog food is approximately 25 - 30 % higher than at other vets. In this economy their business model has left me a little sour. I wish they hadn't changed so much with their expansion. Remember, an animal hospital is a business like any other. These guys just seem to be exercising their business accumen more than their reason (hopefully) for getting into this business to begin with. The animals. more

Dr Was Amazing , Receptionist Not so Much 4/28/2009

I went to Newport Harbor Animal Hospital because a friend spoke highly of the veterinary care . When i went I was amazed on how huge this place was and how beautiful it was ! I was helped right a way by a very nice receptionist . I got checked in right away and she asked me a lot of questions to get my file started . Then she offered me coffee which was great ! I saw Dr Herrera , and I thought she was amazing she answered all my questions , and was very very knowledgeable. At the end of my vist I was assisted by a taller women with black short hair and glasses who was very very rude . ( So if she is going to help you wait for the next avl)She made a mistake when she was billing me out and acted like it was my fault. Her customer service was HORRIBLE , but I will still be coming back because Dr. Herrera is amazing . The first person that helped me was amazing but it was sad to see that at the end of my first time there this women ruined my experience . Once billing me she quickly left a more

Wonderful Hospital 1/9/2009

I am new to the area and was referred by my neighbor. I saw Dr. Herrera and found her to be very knowledgeable and helpful. She explained everything to me in easy terms. I am impressed with the staff and cleanliness of the hospital. They have 9 doctors on staff and are a full service emergency hospital. I have been back 3 times and would definitely recommend them to others. My dog Chewy is doing great now. more

Dr. Sebzda is a wonderful vet 9/26/2008

Dr. Sebzda has been my dog's vet for sometime now. She and the clinic have been very professional and she is excellent with my 16-year old dog over these past couple of years. He had one surgery to remove a tumor on his leg and because she knew my funds were limited, she showed me how to change the dressings so I would not have to incur the office visit charges and we just took care of him at home until it was time to have the stitches removed. That was over a year ago. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer this week and we will have to have him euthanized. They did not charge me for the ultrasound or for the pain meds they gave me as we wanted to bring him home for a few days so the family could say good-bye. I find this doctor to be very compassionate, even when telling me all my options including those that are difficult to hear. more

Break the Bank 8/11/2008

Brought my dog several times to Dr. Herrera a young knowledgeable vet. Dr. Herrera ordered more unnecessary tests on my "Doggie well-check" for my 10 year old mixed breed than you could imagine. She kept insisting my dog had a disorder that I sincerely doubted (he had none of the symptoms), feeling guilty I kept bring him back to her >$2500 (in blood tests & ultrasounds) until I wised up and got a second opinion from another vet @ the same office. There was nothing wrong with my dog.\r I more

amazing doctors and staff 11/6/2007

this is not the least expensive animal hospital in the area, but it's definitely the best. dr wade is a truly exceptional veterinarian, the staff here know what they're doing, and do it well! more

They are great 8/16/2007

For the other two poor reviews, I would give them another shot. They have completely remodeled the place, and I was so happy with their service. I had to bring my cat in for an emergency on a weekend and ultimately had to put her down, but everyone there was very concerned, sympathetic, and they held off doing some tests until we ultimately knew what would happen so I didn't have to pay for those. They were completely professional, the rooms are very clean and they were wonderful. I had taken my dog there before for a routine visit but this time it confirmed that I had found my new vet. I have had a very hard time finding a vet I was comfortable with in the HB/FV/CM area, but they are great and I would recommend them to anyone. more

Love it. 2/9/2007

I have only been to this vet once, but I had a very positive experience. I felt the cost was very reasonable and they spend time with me and my dog explain the problem. The other big plus, is that they are open weekends. I have gone to other vets in the area and this is the first one I found that I liked. I would definitely recommend them. more

Didn't feel like mattered 10/6/2005

When I first moved to Costa Mesa my cat needed a new installment of Advantage so I turned to the phone book to find a vet that would sell it without me having to bring the cat in. I phoned The Newport Harbor Animal Hospital and they said they did have it so I headed down there. When I walked in, the place was empty except for a receptionist that was chatting on the phone (it was obviously a personal call). I stood at the counter for a few minutes before she even acknowledged my presence. Then I waited at least another minute before she wrapped up her conversation then asked what I needed. I explained about how I called to purchase some Advantage. She simply said ,"oh" then walked in the back to get it. When she came out she didn't say anything and just started entering the amount in the computer. I asked her if they also sold pet food and she simply said, "yes" and offered no other explanation. In the 10 minutes or so that I was there the phone didn't ring and no one else came in. I di more

Break out your wallet 5/12/2005

Beleive me, if you can get out of this place for $100, it's because you held onto your wallet with both hands. They'll order complete lab workups, x-rays, you name it. I have had friends - plural - walk out of this place with bills over $2000 for dogs that needed NOTHING! Run away from this swindle shop. more
