This is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is fun and friendly: plenty of televisions (some in HD) for all the sporting events, brewing equipment for the beer, and friendly fas...

Carolina Brewery Beer Sampler! 4/7/2006

Carolina Brewery is a cool place to eat on Franklin Street, but I think my favorite thing is their beer sampler. Around 5-6 shots of beer, from light to dark, come in a paddle, so for a few bucks, you can test out all their beers and not get stuck with something you really don't like! Plus, they have special seasonal beers around holidays! more

Decent food, good location 3/30/2006

I'm with Abbey T - I like to check out local beers, but I just can't find anything I actually like at Carolina Brewery. Regardless, it is a great place to get together with a bunch of friends and gripe about exams right after you have taken your last one. The hamburgers are pretty good. Assuming they are hot, the fries are good too. They have a bunch of other things too, and I have enjoyed everything I have tasted. I like to sit upstairs and be able to watch everyone on the first floor - that's a neat trick. And the parking out back is nice too (just don't forget to tell the hostess what car you've parked). more

Great food, okay beer 9/3/2005

I'm a big fan of small, local micro-breweries. When I tried Carolina Brewery shortly after my arrival in Chapel Hill, I had really high hopes. While the food was quite delicious, I must say the beers weren't as good as I'd hoped. Part of the problem, I am sure, is North Carolina's stupid beer law concerning alcohol percentage (no beer over 6% can be brewed or sold in NC!). I'm really looking forward to the new beers that will be available around here once that law is changed! more

Local brewery 8/12/2005

This is a great local brewery. It is on West Franklin Street, just down the street from UNC-Chapel Hill. It is a huge brewery with lots of different beers on tap. They also serve a good variety of food. One thing that is great about this place is that they serve food late at night, which is somewhat unusual for the area. The desserts are great. It is a great place to meet friends for drinks, watch a game on tv, etc. more

Very good food, nice atmosphere 8/4/2005

One of our favorite places to eat in Chapel Hill. The food is very good and there is a fairly decent variety of choices on the menu. I'm not much into beer but most other people I know who drink, like the selection of brews. The parking situation is not stellar- there is a small lot in the back and you can go in the back door which would walk you right through the kitchen. The decor and atmosphere is very cool. more

OK food, good beer 7/31/2005

The food is okay. I think the menu is pretty small and what they offer is really not that great. There is a good selection of micro brew beers, which is always nice. The appetizers are good, especially the nachos. REasonable price. Good atmosphere for UNC fans. more

Good beer, OK food 7/31/2005

There is a good selection of microwbrews, which is always fun. The food is okay. I haven't really ever had a meal there that I loved. The appetizers are just okay too. I would recommend eating somewhere else and hitting this place for some drinks. more
